  • I've not been registered for the past decade, so I did have a little trouble with the Spectos quiz and was relieved by the chance to retake questions. There's no mention in the letter or in the app of any sort of how-to guide and it's not obvious to get to; the letter just says to take the quiz once you've downloaded the app.

If Spectos isn't starting for another six months anyway, I'm a little surprised they expect people to download the app already and remember all its information for that long.

  • If you open the app and click on FAO and then on Tutorials (at the bottom of the page) there's lots of info/instructions and video clips of how it works and what is expected of a panelist.

Quicker to take the test, get told what questions you have wrong and change the answer to those. Particularly as most questions are multiple choice with only 2 possible answers.

I don't agree, I didn't find the test particularly easy to do, whereas the video clips and FAO's were easy to watch/read.

I found most of the multiple choice answers had 3 possible answers, and although I consider myself quite capable of doing the survey (have been doing it for a few years), I got a few wrong. Some of the questions weren't particularly worded well (IMO).

I also wonder if your first attempt is looked at, so they'll know how many you got wrong initially, which could of course affect whether they want you on the panel.

From what appears to be being discussed here everybody has jumped the gun!
Having discovered the apparent forthcoming end of this survey by Kantar and the takeover by Spectos, many are prematurely trying to sign up.

Kantar have said that when the time is appropriate invites will be sent to existing Kantar panellists to join Spectos

It does seem their are going to be done differences between the way the two companies will handle things.

From what I can tell this includes

    1. You can't do the other surveys if live on the Spectos main panel.

    2. You won't need to assemble your letters. Instead, they will give you "bundles" of prepared items to post.

    3. They will start using passive RFIDs as well as physical ones. Only the physical ones need to be sent back and they will already be in SAEs.

Because of finding out here - and not via Kantar.  I chased Spectos about not getting my letter; I got an automated reply saying it will come out next week - but the e-mail they were using was labelled Royal Mail Group.
I need to think of something new here...
  • I can't remember exactly how I got there but I found myself on a page with two clickable links - one link was for newcomers to the survey to apply, and the other link was for existing panelists to apply.

I presumed we wouldn't be taking part on the new survey until Kantar's time was up. All very confusing.

I got my welcome letter today - yes, Sunday!  I've installed the app and done the quizzes - using the silvercar technique of making best guess and then re-taking.  I think some elements have been changed.  For example, the Spectos quiz for Unaddressed and Correctly Delivered says you can only do these while you are in the resting phase; I'm pretty sure that I've done those in parallel to the main survey.  It also says that you should start checking/saving the Unaddressed items the Friday before the survey starts in case some are delivered early - and that's not in the Kantar guidance (unless it has been added in the last 12 months since I last got on UM).

I should get a Kantar posting pack in the next week - I'll see what happens with Spectos.
