The ordinary mail posting and receiving is different to the correctly delivered and unaddressed mail surveys.
If you are just sending and receiving items, you don't get paid in points, you get paid monthly in stamps. There is a training period which there is no reimbursement for (items all being sent to the same address). Once on the panel proper you also get a presentation stamp pack at the beginning and end of the (usually) 6 month stint as well as the stamps. It's a book of 12 first class and 4 large letter stamps per month so it's not going to pay for any holidays. You also get additional reimbursement of 200 points for sending a parcel or cube because of the extra effort of handing over the post office counter.
The correctly delivered and unaddressed mail are by invite only, which pops up on the app from time to time and is first come first served. Those pay £5 worth of points which arrived once the 3 week stint has been completed.
Thank you for the information, it is much appreciated

My current stint seems to have ended (at least from a posting point of view).  They did suspend the survey for a while during last lockdown. May do the same again but don't know whether they have different surveys happening at any one time in different parts of the country.  Kantar never seem very speedy in getting their communication  act together.

Paraphrasing slightly,  “we might still send them but don’t feel obliged to post if you don’t feel safe to do so.”

Your safety has always, and must be our top priority. Therefore:

    • Only complete your postings when you are able to safely and lawfully. For example, if you are visiting a Post Office anyway; or if your exercise, shopping trip or dog walk takes you past a post box. You should only post when you feel safe and comfortable doing so. We will continue to report to Royal Mail and the data you provide is still valuable in helping Royal Mail continue to deliver for us all. If you’re not able to post safely, hold on to your items until after the lockdown.
    • Your incentives and prize draw entries are assured. During the lockdown, you will not be penalised for not following the normal survey instructions or rules. You will continue to receive any incentives due, and we will auto-enrol you in all prize draws that apply to the lockdown period.

Given the short lockdown period, we will continue to produce and send you test items, if you are unable to post put them aside until it’s safe for you to do so. Additionally, if you have been unable to post you may also receive some automated reminders from our system about missing data – please ignore these until you have restarted your normal posting routine.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Is it now mandatory to use the app to record items sent? I used my PC after a break of a few months from the panel and I got a message in my account saying
"Please note, most (if not all) your sender items must be recorded following the steps described; otherwise we may have to remove you from the survey. And remember: register all your items using the app correctly to keep your chances of winning in our Prize Draws!"
    When did this change? :(

I have been unable to update my app. I,m not a techie person and despite following the iPhone instructions nothing happened.  In any case the app is often so slow it,s pretty useless.

That reads to me like that you need to use the app to enter the prize draw, otherwise make sure log items accurately. They have queried the times people have put on if they've not logged things at the exact times of posting so I would guess that's behind the message. If you always post in increments of 5 minutes you're clearing guessing not accurately recording the time.
I've not had a  message saying the app is mandatory and would challenge if I did given that I've already told them it doesn't work on my aging i-phone.
