  • I'm getting his present money on Monday when he gets paid apparently :rotfl:

I might just say there's no money left, he cant spend what isn't there.

I am going to be SO annoyed next week if I've got to pay for all the presents

If there is only £18 and that has to buy food for the weekend then essentially there isn't any money left for beer etc. Won't kill him to go without for a few days.

    Absolutely!

He get's his bonus in February and he said he's going to pay off his credit card and overdraft with it.

We originally discussed using both our bonuses to book a summer holiday (this was before he ran up debt)

So now my dilemma do I go on holiday just me and our son and leave husband at home, or pay for him and he comes with us?

Umm that is a tough one. I think even I would balk at going off on holiday and leaving him behind on the grounds that might upset your son and normally depending on where you go having one extra person would not be that much more. I also think he is right to prioritise paying off his debt over a holiday. What about a cheaper holiday next year and making it clear if he wants holidays in the future he has to be better organised with his money. We save monthly in a holiday pot.

He got paid today, I got the standing order into my account for his half of the bills and food

    Nothing for presents

I asked him when I got in tonight and he said he’d send it to me later.

    He’s now in bed

    Grrrr!

Infuriating. He is obviously hoping you are going to let him get away without paying.

I think that too! Not sure what to do if doesn’t contribute? Buy them myself I guess.

Then tell him the money I was going to spend on him I’ve had to spend on presents for the family so hope he’s not expecting anything from me!

I think I would be inclined to just put yours and your sons name on the cards too but then I can be petty :) I would be annoyed enough to do that if he is still buying his cigarettes and beer but not putting his hand in his pocket for xmas presents. Yes I certainly would not be buying him anything.

  • Mr CB transferred me the present money last night :)

Now he's moaning that he 'only' has £400 to last until next payday. I said 400 quid? That would last me months! That shut him up :rotfl:

In other news, logged into my Barclaycard account today (£0 balance £12k limit)

There's a balance transfer offer on there 0% for 24 months. Not sure whether to go for it or not?

Reasons I've come up with for:
    - Will cost me approx. £330 a month to clear before the 0% ends, instead of the £600 I have to send to Virgin
    - No longer paying £600 a month means I'll be able to save more into both my S&S ISA and my Marcus account (1.5% interest)
    - Could then close the Virgin card meaning I'd only have 2 credit cards instead of 3 open (I have Barclaycard and a Halifax Clarity that I only use abroad)

I'd go for it, if you can pay it off before the deal runs out, it is definitely worth go for and it will save you some money in the long run too x

Firstly, well done to Mr CB in paying you the £175. £400 spending money would last me two to three months too. Cutting down smoking would be the best thing he could do if he still smokes as that is expensive. Same on the drinking.

If you think you can trust yourself not to spend on the credit card after clearing the Virgin or dip into the Marcus savings then I think it is worth going for. That presumably means you would pay it off within the deal period so no interest and that gives you a chance to build up savings. As long as your DH does not get wind of your savings and appropriate them to subsidise his spending. Gives you a bit more breathing space I guess if finding the £600 is tough every month.
