  • Redo, do you follow Terry Pratchett on kindle? I just got an email from them saying that because I follow him they’re offering me 40% off 5 specific kindle books I didn’t already have - the prices for them ranged from 79p to 1.39, and 4 of the 5 were Discworld. I now have a hole in my books budget for the month, but thought it was worth flagging to you! It seems to happen a couple of times a year.

An expensive and eventful couple of weeks.  The ex stray was missing for a day or so then turned up with an injury.  Sadly he had to have surgery - painful in every sense of the word.  He is currently sat next to me shouting 'OUT!' at the window.
The DW was replaced, more expensively than planned as most models were out of stock.  Then the main oven died!  I am hoping that that is my three things done as it has made for a very expensive month.
I did still manage an over payment on the mortgage but not as much as usual.  This was partly because I finally got round to claiming my mileage for the year which put a little extra in on pay day.  Wasn't worth doing in dribs and drabs but it soon adds up.  The regular savers go out every month but nothing extra stashed away.
Need to try and use up some of the freezer contents to end up with money left at the end of the month.  I want to be able to clear the vet bill off the card before I add the oven repair/replacement.  Luckily its a range oven and has a second small oven so I can manage for now.
    No jumpers this month!
Positives - I found a physio that I like and my ankle is already a lot more flexible/stable.  I have stopped taking the IBS medication without problems, hurrah.  Last time I tried I ended up feeling like I had a permanent queasy hangover so this is a result.

Rummaging at the bottom of the freezer I found half a gammon joint so that is out for Sunday dinner, and cold sliced for the next few days.  The stock and scraps will make Pea and Ham soup which goes down well with the eldest, and it seems fitting in this weather.

Sorry to hear about your expensive month redo - especially the poor old ex-stray. He sounds like he's on the way to recovery though!😺 Yes - things usually happen in threes don't they, so fingers crossed all is well now🤞
Well done on the mortgage repayment and I'm very pleased to hear that you've found a good physio and you're doing well without the meds!👍

    Thanks Seaside!
The gammon went on the hob with an onion and some bits of veg for an hour, then fat off, into the little oven with brown sugar studded with cloves for a bit.  It is lovely.  Dried peas soaked overnight.  Potatoes, leeks and onion seated in butter for a few minutes, added the peas and the gammon cooking liquid.  Whizzed once once cooked to thicken and some gammon shreds added.  V nice, and the last bits will be frozen tomorrow for a 'hurrah' lunch for the boy.
Tonight was 'reduced to pennies' lasagne.  They like it, I hate making it, so much hassle and dirty dishes.   I buy it whenever it has got a good offer/reduction for an easy night that is cheaper/healthier than chip shop.
The freezer isn't actually that full but there is a lot of fish so I need to plan to use that.  I have lots of tomatoes/peppers to use too.

Sorry to hear about the cat expense but glad he’s on the mend. I wonder what happened to him, do you think he’d been fighting? Good to hear about the physio and coming off meds without issues.

@Sun_Addict it might be from fighting but genetic is also possible.  recovering well which is all I can ask for
@Seasidegal58 thank you for the vote of confidence but currently the fish has become dwarf bread, I open the freezer, look at it, and do hurrah we are not that hungry yet.  I don't know why as I vaguely tolerate fish.  On current form Pasta will appear on the menu first.

This weekend I have exercised the ankle to 10k steps without problems, such a relief as my 12 months average is 2.5k per day.  If anyone who is reading has 'loose' ankles I recommend two things if you can't sort physio quickly, 1, air draw the alphabet as big as you can with your pointed toes (keeping your ankle still) morning and evening every day for a few weeks to improve strength and flexibility, and 2. invest c£20 in a low wobble board from rainforest suppliers or similar and use it daily, the tiny adjustments to keep your balance really pay off.  You can watch TV or join dull camera off work meetings whilst wobbling gently to improve mobility.

Those were the exercises recommended for my broken ankle, apart from the 10k steps 😆

Thanks for sharing the exercise - not heard about the wobble board before though. Glad to read they're both helping you.
