Clearly kidnapped by aliens @astrocytic_kitten!
Himself fancied 'pie floater' so I made scotch pies from scratch. Never made hot crust pastry before, surprisingly easy, The key thing was to make sure they were cold and hard set before I filled the cases with a very dry filling.
The eldest still hasn't applied for student finance for his fees. Part of me thinks I should let him reap the consequences, but given that his chosen course and university is massively over subscribed then I will probably just grit my teeth and sort it. The youngest hated his BTEC course last year and really strongly doesn't want to do year 2, but cant find anything else appropriate. I don't remember it being this complicated when I was 17/18. Only it was, because I dropped out of two degree courses myself..My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Shiny new glasses! I can see, but I have a cracking headache. Sure it will settle down shortly
Part of the reason we hadn't sorted his finance application was that we thought mr redo and I would have to put income details in, and we were not sure quite what that was likely to be because he has taken early retirement. Turns out DS can only borrow the basic amount anyway on the basis of my salary. What it has flagged up is how much easier life is with a current passport, so I have added renew everyones expired passports to the list. even though we have no short term intention to go abroad
Not quite sure how complicated renewing child passport to adult is, and if we have to get counter signatories or anything, Hope not, it'd be complicated in that non work people I have known for three years plus wouldn't recognise the offspring.
I have been out for work yet again today, and on the way back picked up lamb and pork mince. I want to try making lamb scotch pies, and pork pies at the weekend if I get time.
Yesterday I bought more cotton bedding as most of our 'use the good stuff every day' is now threadbare. I suspect this will be the new jumpers. What I actually need to buy is new work suits that fit my sadly expanded waistline, but I cant find any that I like.

A current passport seems to be almost essential. From dabbling in the recruitment side at work it’s one of the documents needed for security purposes. Seems daft if you have no plans of travelling abroad 🤷♀️I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

Where I used to work we would insist on either a passport or current photo driving licence as part of the identity process - though not sure if your boys have one of the latter as yet!Re the premium bonds, since I upped the value of mine, I have won £25 three out of four months! The last time I won was when I was about 11 years old! Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Yes I see the struggles of those without passports for ID at work. The older one had a current passport when we got his driving licence last year, but its a bit chicken and egg for the younger. We plan to move etc and current passports will make that simpler. My parents struggled with no passport and no driving licence when they moved from memory.
Fingers crossed on the premium bonds, but my luck is notoriously poor.
New bedding has arrived and looks nice. I do like nice high count cotton sheets, but it doesn't seem to be advertised as 'Egyptian' cotton anymore. Did I miss some politics? My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

You intrigued me about the sheets! I just looked at John Lewis online and they are still advertising some of their bedding as Egyptian cotton.😃Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Interesting, I had a look at the mid range cotton delivered today new stuff and no country of origin or manufacture in the big writing. CBA to swap to my old lady glasses to read the little words. All of the high count stuff was 'Egyptian' a few years back.
Lamb mince based scotch pies look nice now they are cooked, but I have established that hot water into cold jam jar as per instructions does crack the jar as you would expect.
Mr Redo was also creative and has been making mushroom saddle stones with left over concrete. I think I need to paint them with plain yoghurt to age them? Sure I read it somewhere.
Teabags. I usually drink Twinings Mature Breakfast but have really gone off them as dusty and tasteless. PeeGee as bad. Co-op Indian Prince are ok. Any suggestions? I only drink a few a day with no sugar and a tiny amount of skimmed milk so cheap and cheerful isn't important, I want to enjoy them.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Re teabags - I can't stand tea - only drink coffee so can't be of much help I'm afraid. However when I worked we had a very wealthy Indian client whose family owned tea plantations in India. He told my boss that the best non-luxury tea to buy in the U.K. was Yorkshire tea. He said the worst was PG Tips as the tea wasn't of the best quality. Not sure how true this is - my Mum and Dad always used to drink PG Tips and liked it!🤣Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟
