Book the cleaners for next month. If you don't want to leave the house while they are there you can at least decamp to the polytunnel and admire your seeds!

. Any recommendations for good value sellers of plants welcomed. I've got about 20 square meters of empty borders...

Have a look on fr**cycle. I give plants shrubs seeds away on there. Or put out a 'wanted' .....locally grown stuff always does much better

She knows that. Doesn't mean she'll listen to us ;)
  • You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink :p

The spending continues, the rubbish WM finally died. New one arrives tomorrow - another hole in the emergency savings but that is after all what they are for. I think I'd like February to be over now.

I need to catch your gardening enthusiasm Redo, can you throw some over to me please :)
Lots of enthusiasm, not a lot of energy. Maybe start small with a nice spring pot by the door?
Great going on the garden redo. Glad the boys have mucked in as well. Having a clean canvas to work on sounds very motivational.
It is, escpeially as I will be able to get on without relying on others.

Thanks, I will see what there is locally.
  • Sorry to hear you've been ill Redo, a kidney infection sounds horrible :(. I hope you get all your energy back soon. That's the worst thing about being ill, apart from the discomfort, all the things that don't get done .

It sounds like you've been reading some of my favourite books while you've been ill though :). Do you like Elizabeth Ferrars? I'm reading Thy Brother Death by her at the moment.

Getting the big jobs done in the garden by contractors sounds like a very sensible move as gardening is a lot more tiring than housework I always think.

  • An author to look at, thanks HHOD

Reading: Kindle, Blue Castle, LM Montgomery (free! I imported a copy from Canada years ago and read it till it fell to bits) and bath, Christie Murder at the Vicarage
Eating: sausage plait. Diced and fried an onion, mixed it into some basic stuffing. Sheet of puff pastry, stuffing down the middle and then sausage meat on top. Diagonal cuts, then folded the slices in to make a plait. 40 minutes in the oven, nice hot or cold. The stuffing absorbs the sausage juices so you don't get the dreaded soggy bottom. Nice hot or cold
Using up: reduced sausage meat bought after Christmas
Bought: another pair of wrist warmers for a boy to give me for a birthday present. Need to think of something for DS2 and OH to buy. Don't think we have any cards left either so they might have to buy some in the village at great expense. At 14 and 15 they may refuse to make me one :rotfl:

Finally did a big store cupboard shop yesterday, in the hope that I can avoid going again for a while. Our local Lidl is usually empty and quick to go round so my shop of preference, but sadly they don't seem to do a very good job of maintaining the fridges as I had a run of fresh stuff going off before the use by, and F&V turning to mush overnight. I'm back to buying dry goods there, and fresh stuff elsewhere which is a shame.
  • Murder at the Vicarage is my favourite Christie book, the first Miss Marple :).

It's infuriating when fruit and veg go off to quickly. It's also annoying when they refuse to ripen .

More wrist warmers? :rotfl:. When is your birthday?

It's one of my favourites too, although I like all of the Marples. I'm on Why Didn't They Ask Evans now. Clearly I spend far too much time in the bath.

Sunday. It's hard to find things I do want more than I like having cash in my purse. A black felted pair from turtle doves this time so warmer than my others.

Reading: fell asleep with my face glued to the Kindle so still the Blue Castle.
Eating: oven chip butty on white danish with salt and too much butter. Nutritionally awful but oh so good.
House: zilch. Eufy dutifully hoovered, and I did the DW.
Bought: hair cuts for boys. Teabags. Both essential really.
Used up: DS1 had the last two rashers of bacon as a pasta carbonara

    And hurrah for some sunshine.
