Today I shined my sinks, in best flylady fashion. Did the day to day cleaning, ironing, homework nagging, etc. DInner was roast chicken and trimmings (hurrah says DS1) and I also made a fruit loaf and a cheese/onion/potato slice baked omelette for packed lunches. The fruit loaf was one of those cobbled together with the dregs of a jar of mincemeat and the sticky remains of a tub of glac! cherries things that you just can't recreate, but that worked beautifully. Thinly sliced, and topped with butter and cheese - not diet food, but relatively nutritious I guess.

I love the way you always manage to cobble together things from a diverse range of ingredients!

Also, well done on shifting the stuff on the landing. It does make you feel much better having a clear out!

I love having so many books on my kindle, but I do find it a PITA trying to locate things. I also have vast numbers of PDF documents on it, as I use it for reading stuff for work - although A4 PDFs on the kindle screen are hard going!

greenbee - have you tried splitting your kindle books into "Collections?" I have quite a few different categories on kindle - i.e. books by my favourite authors, 'Home' which is anything to do with the house; 'Cookery', 'Finance' 'Health' etc. It might take a bit of a while to set up if you have a lot on kindle but makes life easier once it's done.

What Katy Did at School is definitely another! (Mainly got into lots of scrapes and received delicious boxes from home containing lots of Debby's baking, if I remember correctly!) :rotfl:

    !

EH - once you mentioned that book I realised that I have read it! My What Katy Did book actually included the School book so I have always thought of them as one book! Loved the School book - always remember how she set off a school revolution because she thought it appalling that all the girls had to share a communal washroom so bought her own washstand for her room! Then everybody else wanted one so the washroom ended up being closed! Victorian girls eh! (though I know she was American!)

  • I always liked the sound of the home baked Jumbles :)

    Reading: Nelly Lasts diary
Eating: steak, mushrooms and HM potato wedges
House Progress: two trades in to do a quote, and a top up tidy round first thing. Dogs bedding washed.

Used up: hand cream. Loccitane shea butter, luckily I still have a big tube left from an offer a couple of years ago. Great stuff but expensive. My hands are starting to show my age so need to use something.
Bought: carrots and onions - the Lidl ones from a few days ago are rotten already :(
  • The hands and neck are supposed to be the first to show your age :(. I think a good sun block is an investment too as nothing ages you quicker than sunlight. UVA, which ages you, can get through glass too, not that I'm paranoid about aging :rotfl:.

Well done on clearing the landing :T I agree with SSG that it's good to get the exit and entrance routes clear.

Funny you should mention hands and age. My hands look so much older than my face... I think posh hand cream last thing at night is worth it. I use cheapo ones during the day as I wash my hands so much.

Well done for doing 2 quotes in one day.

Love this way of "declaring" things Redo - may well steal! :D

Also loved the sound of the jumbles - and strangely very nearly picked up Nella Last's diary from the shelf to re-read the other night - it'll very likely be my next read unless I have any more books passed on from Mum in the meantime! I must also remember that I am still missing one of hers from my collection so I need to keep an eye out for it or add it to my list of stuff to go on a birthday list when the time comes.

I have very dry skin and have also suffered from eczema.Having tried all sorts of handcream, both very cheap and very expensive,I can't recommend Boots Aqueous Cream highly enough. And it's so cheap!
  • :hello: hello Liselle. I used to buy that many years ago, and yes it was cheap and useful. It reminded me that I have some expensive prescription bought heavy duty type cream from when my ears tried to fall off in a suitably attractive fashion last year.

HHOD I notice on my neck now, and must remember to mouisturise that too

DIA totally with you on the hands. Not many face wrinkles, but if I pinch the skin on my hands it stays pinched.

EH it was a tired update :o I ironed to the Victoria Wood film of the book, but am finding the book really interesting.

Illness has stopped play until further notice. Frustrating because if I can't work, I don't get paid and I can't even be getting on with the backlog of household stuff. It's probably 'just' a kidney infection but it has knocked me sideways.

Reading: Sparkling Cyanide, Zero (Christie), Unnatural Death (Sayers) and Charity Girl (Heyer). Have added Eat Well for Less to the pile but even reading about food makes me feel worse. Mostly sleeping rather than reading.
Eating: As little as possible, so that I can take the antibiotics. Drinking nasty cranberry juice.
House progress: none whatsoever, although I have made sure that the DW has been used and the worktops are clear. Not done anything with the quotes, need to be recovered before I commit to people being in anyway. Still waiting for an update on the tree with laburnum rot, but hopefully they will take it down this week and I can decide what to replace it with.
Used up: dog ends of random processed food from the freezer as other people will insist on eating. It's all been a bit 'leftovers' night but it has freed up some space
Spends: £8 something on prescription, and probably the same again later when they decide what to do next. £8 in co-op on pizza, salad and chocolate mousse for 'eat as a family' night on Saturday. I lay on the sofa looking pathetic and we all watched a Star Wars film (Solo maybe?).

Either need to book MrW for tomorrow or drag myself round the village co op. oH has offered to shop but he is incapable of following a list or spending under £100, and he is also unusually busy with work and the stark shock of me suddenly not doing everything for everyone.
  • Sorry to hear that your're under the weather redo. Ouch - that's really painful.

Re the reading pile - love Sparkling Cyanide and Towards Zero - two of my favourite non-Poirot/Marple Christie who-dun-its! The Eat Well For Less books are good too - usually find something in them to make that's quick and easy.

I'd get an online shop rather than try and drag yourself round the Co-op if you're still feeling off-colour and OH can't be trusted with the bill! Perhaps it'll do the OH good to realise how much you do for them all!:D

Definitely do an online shop. You can set up your list in short bursts as and when you have the energy.

And it's a good opportunity to get the rest of the family on a rota for meals too.

Keep drinking the cranberry juice. Don't forget to dilute it :)
