Good work on your kitchen clean de-clutter! And I'm sure you, of all people will figure out what to do with all that rice!:rotfl:

Interesting that you mention the What Katy Did books on kindle. I didn't realise that there were any more apart from 'What Katy Did Next'. I always rather liked Clover's character - must investigate. I can then add these to the 531 books I have on kindle already. My giant library that's fits into my handbag!:rotfl:

I love having so many books on my kindle, but I do find it a PITA trying to locate things. I also have vast numbers of PDF documents on it, as I use it for reading stuff for work - although A4 PDFs on the kindle screen are hard going!

I've used up quite a bit of ancient veg this weekend - peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, fennel and kalettes roasted for breakfast yesterday. Leeks and potatoes turned into soup. Swede currently cooking for mash, spaghetti squash roasting and cabbage will be steamed (have some beef stew from the freezer). Celeriac is prepped to make carrot and celeriac soup either later tonight or tomorrow (will be frozen).
  • Today I shined my sinks, in best flylady fashion. Did the day to day cleaning, ironing, homework nagging, etc. DInner was roast chicken and trimmings (hurrah says DS1) and I also made a fruit loaf and a cheese/onion/potato slice baked omelette for packed lunches. The fruit loaf was one of those cobbled together with the dregs of a jar of mincemeat and the sticky remains of a tub of glac! cherries things that you just can't recreate, but that worked beautifully. Thinly sliced, and topped with butter and cheese - not diet food, but relatively nutritious I guess.

Seasidegal, I knew the sequels existed expensively from book collectors catalogues but was so pleased to find them either free or pennies on Kindle.

Greenbee, sounds sensible for easy meals from the freezer when you are briefly back from your travels.

This is domestic achievement at the highest level. I feel like a sloth in comparison :o
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

    You've done loads today.

I bleached my cleaning cloths and did some laundry.

The problem with eating properly (and cooking) is the tidying up afterwards...
  • I'd have far rather sat on the sofa and read a book, but the place was/is slowly sliding into complete shameful chaos. Just recleared the kitchen and filled the DW, again, ready to switch on in the morning. It feels much better in the morning to come down to clear worktops.

Vague plan for risotto with the rest of the chicken tomorrow. Peas from the freezer, and a tired end of Parmesan in the fridge will be transformed into glorious stodgy winter food.
  • The chicken did a lovely risotto, which used up the last of the good rice, and the nub end of the parmesan. Even the rind went in to help the flavour, as there wasn't a huge amount to grate.

I was seduced outside by a spot of sunshine so I filled the green waste bins with the brash pile from the patio. Igamogram reminded me that I pay for that service, and I should use it fully.

DW on and the kitchen is back to tidy. I did a few loads of washing in between work calls so I feel like we have some forward movement in the general neglect.
  • Some mess removal completed in between project work, and a rare hoover upstairs. Why do we go clutter blind? I've been walking past the mess on the top landing for months, possibly years. Only now it has gone I can see how bad it was.

Anyway, beef strew and dumplings was the dish of the day.

Quote finally got done for the removal of rotten tree, far less than I had expected. Hope we get permission quickly, the crown has started to split.

Will the tree surgeon write the report saying it needs to come out? I know it's one of the things they often have to do where TPOs or conservation areas are involved.

What Katy Did at School is definitely another! (Mainly got into lots of scrapes and received delicious boxes from home containing lots of Debby's baking, if I remember correctly!) :rotfl:

If the tree is starting to become dangerous Redo then you should get the required permission pretty quickly, hopefully. Fingers crossed!
