I was given a trashy novel when I went to visit a neighbour yesterday. I plan to read it in the bath tonight and tomorrow. I'll post it when I'm done with it - it's so trashy you'll have no issues sending it to the CS (it's original source) when you have read it...
  • Hope the bath was lovely :o
    Total Debt : ?? / ??
  • The bath is always lovely thanks, my nightly escape. I've even thought of something to read that I haven't read for a while. Re-reading my Angela Thirkells will get me through the next few weeks, and they are lovely gentle books in a not much happens style so perfect for my chaotic head currently.

I used to drink wine in the bath too SA but it gives me acid indigestion now. I've got a jam jar of lollipops instead at the moment. Bath, book and a spot of tooth rot.

Major fail for me today, we ran out of tomato based substances! I can no longer claim to be an old styler. Had to go to the co-op (who have a 4 pack of chopped tom tins for £2) and also spotted their 500g tagliatelle is only 56p so bought a few bags. The fridge is shamefully bare, and I still forgot to get some skimmed milk. Pasta and tomatoes counts as a meal doesn't it? Unless of course you dislike both and have Parma violets for dinner instead :o

HHOD I'm 4 months into a 3 month project with no obvious end in sight. Exhausted is an understatement, and occasionally I'm scarily out of my depth which is hard when I'm tired. There was nothing part time and I had run out of cash reserves. I'm hoping it stops by Easter so I can coax DS1 through his GCSEs!

Ordered some boy stuff from La Redoute, there's a code on their home page for £30 off £60, £50 off £100 , etc so ugly jogging pants, warm fleece jackets. Oh dear I'm shopping when I'm cold again. 31 jumpers anyone?
  • Sucking lollipops in the bath sounds rather cool. Hope it helps to sooth you down after the fraught job.

I'd rather have the pasta and toms than Parma violets for dinner. Perhaps with some nice cheese on top.....:)

You are doing great to keep up with the job. You do what you need to do for your family. I understand that but I will be glad for you when it comes to an end and you can post cat stories and recipes again.

    Parma violets for tea!!!!!!!!!

  • As I pulled out of the drive this morning a well known cleaning franchise pulled up at my neighbour s for her weekly clean. I still think I should do the same. That keeps going on the back burner because I can't guarantee when I will be home for a quote, or for people to be here to actually clean. I don't like strangers in the house at the best of times, and this is not the best of times. DIA I know you know how I feel on this one!

They would have to clean round the mess, and I would make myself tidy up for them at what cost to myself? And before anyone says but make the family help, they don't see the mess, they don't care very much and it causes more stress arguing about it. It actually takes more negative emotional energy trying to get people to do things than it does to just get on.

Seasidegal, I hate to admit it but there is no cheese, not even grated in the freezer. Out of cheese error! That never happens either.

As far as the cleaners go, block some WFH time and cite 'appointments' as reason not to change, then get them to quote. You may have to let them let themselves in if you want a regular clean.

As for the mess, get them to quote for the areas that are important to you and that you think you can keep tidy enough to make it worthwhile - even if just by shoving everyone else's stuff into bags/boxes/crates and into their rooms (or the bin) the night before.

And make sure you get first bath after they've been...
  • When both my girls were teenagers and prone to leaving stuff lying around I would gather it up in a basket and dump it all on their beds and shut the door to their rooms they would soon clean it up,if they left any bits on the floor they just went up the hoover, they learned pretty quickly to tidy up behind themselves 😄
