Also interestingly I asked my solicitor about possibility of needing two trips and when I HAD to be out and he said I had until the time agreed in the contract (which is 1pm for ours) even if completion happens at 9am..... So even though not legally the owner anymore I still had the right to finish moving. Which I thought was interesting but might cause a few cross words!
See if you can hire a Luton van. I've got one booked for next week - £85 a day and should fit all of our stuff in one trip.. so much cheaper than removals!!

Well done to those that have completed! Exciting times 💞
we had a day of it yesterday, after a bitter war of words between our agent and us and them bringing round flowers to apologise we have agreed to go into rented but we need 4 weeks between exchange and completion. They have a Lettings dept so I have tasked them to find us something but we have also said we don’t want to exchange until we see something that’s suitable. This is because we have a dog and I know finding somewhere that will accept pets will probably be hard! But, as we are breaking our chain and allowing our buyer and chain below to get sorted before we are I’m sure they won’t mind waiting. Think I will pack up rest of the house and we might get a storage unit just so we can empty some of the house as we are moving from a 4 bedroom 1600 square foot into potentially a 2/3 bed house or flat 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it is what it is. It was hard to get under offer with our house and I really can’t go through those nail biting waits not knowing if the viewing went well and they liked it or not!
  • First time buyer here and love reading all the advice given here. Feeling super hopeless with my current progress and luck...
Just had our 3rd offer on a house sale fall through (1st one we got gazumped, 2nd the chain never formed, 3rd seller pulled out due to ill health- just as all searches were being sent back). Just waiting on the day we can ever reach the point of exchange. Not sure whether to keep looking or take a break and go for a new build now (guaranteed a house right?!). Good luck to everyone!

Yay @Doodlebugs!! I'm also already thinking what am I going to do WHEN this is all over. Though for now in the wonderful stage of everyone trying to get hold of one link in the chain for updates whilst I try to find any removal company or a friend confident enough to drive a van. Isn't IT FUN. 😂
We are in this situation with removals, everything is booked up till April, but we have agreed exchange this week and completion the following, we are trying to push out completion till the week of the 22nd now, but still can't find anything.  We are thinking of booking a van, but like you said, no one confident enough to drive one, also not even sure it will fit down the road we are moving to.

Welcome @Springnova8 that is rotten luck! The phrase 'everything will be alright in the end.... If its not alright then its not the end' has kept me going!!! Sometimes through gritted teeth mind you....

We're looking into that but slightly tricky logistics wise as not just moving up the road.... We have two cars to also move plus need some heavy lifters 😂 and prices I've been getting certainly not that cheap.... More the 185 mark (though removals coning in at 750....eurgh!)
My main panic (today anyway, changes daily 😂) is the fact we will be 5th set of keys to collect.... Images of us sitting there at 5am with white knuckles whilst delivery men drive back to the depot with our stuff or our van hire payment doubles as we tick into a second day!

    We completed today!
It has been a LONG day, but we are in, kitchen and living room are unpacked and some gin has been consumed. Positive story purchasing a tenanted house; it does work out sometimes.

Just hope our buyers are as happy as we were when we bought that house. Felt sad locking it up for the last time.

No idea what I’m going to talk about or focus all my thoughts on now, it’s been all consuming for 8 months...

    Goos luck all!

    Great news !!
Hoping to share my positive tenanted property purchase soon too.

Hope the new house brings you and your family years of happy memories.

Congrats Doodlebug! I know what I'll be doing if/when I eventually move in -  starting on making it my own (anyone else obsessed with researching home decor ideas? No, just me then?!)   :D
I hired a Luton 3.5T van last week to move out of my 2-bedroom apartment and did it in 1 trip, but the van was almost full and I actually didn't take everything as I'm moving in with my partner and he has some stuff too. My stuff has filled a 75 sq ft storage unit with just a little room to spare. The van was £50 for the day and the storage unit is £16 per week, so not bad.
I think to move out of my boyfriend's house we'll need to rent two vans and drive one each, or, rent another storage unit and move some stuff out in advance, seeing as we'll have to go there to collect my stuff anyway. There's no way we will get his house in 1 van for 1 trip, although at least we are only moving 5 minutes away!
Anyway, this all seems like pie in the sky for now, we are still mid the 'how long is a piece of string' wait to exchange. It feels like forever away!  :s

Love Pinterest, and Instagram too. I've already bought some accessories, and the only thing stopping me buying more is the fact my boyfriend would clock them either being delivered or brought through the front door.  :s
