Cheery Daff that does sound expensive for Removals. We are in a 3 bed with 2 of us. We have quite alot of furniture and difficult to move items but our removal costs are £450. This is everything in, 3 removal men and insurance, although I imagine costs due vary greaty depending on where you are.

Thanks ang87, I know they're a very popular local firm so maybe they're just trying to put us off and get someone easier :D :rotfl: we're moving about an hour away, to somewhere pretty rural so little lanes to negotiate (although clearly not that little if they reckon we're going in an 18 tonne lorry!

Will see what the other folks say tomorrow.

Congratulations to those of you who have exchanged, or at least come very close! :j :j

I've just been looking at the calendar - it's only 4.5 weeks til the end of Feb. I reckon theres absolutely NO chance we'll be moving til March at this rate - not even started discussing dates this time round.

Hoping for a Feb *exchange* at least!

Hope everyone has a calm weekend without the phone ringing...
  • Great news mutley!! Feeling green that you have your keys. Sorry to hear about the black wall, is it something that can easily be resolved? At least it's in the garage and not the house though

checked survey report and it shows that wall full of vendor's junk - funny as in viewing it was well organized. So unless vendors arranged it on purpose to hide from surveyor, as the surveyor seem to pick out every other points around the property.
Its clearly damp as the road on the other side is about 1ft higher than the garage floor level (the full length of the garage), and cant believe it was built in 2003 without proper building controls/design put in place!

I recommend everyone go through your houses with a toothcomb before signing!
  • :( sucks , this is why i am VERY happy we are buying a property that is vacant as we are very aware of the amount of work we need to do.

Do you have a plan for it Mutley ? As in what are you planning to do with it ?

Exchange may not happen Monday as the top of the chain still has one query outstanding that hadn't received a reply by Friday, so there will be lots of phoning round Monday morning. The top are confident we can all still complete on the 16th. My son-in-law is on tenterhooks - he's planning to resign from his job as soon he hears we've exchanged, as they're planning to move in with us in a different part of the country and both do degrees while getting part-time jobs, while I work to pay for it all and DH starts to reclaim the land from its neglect.

We'll probably only use the greenhouse and polytunnel this year to grow veg, but there's a long list of things to do as the smallholding has been neglected for a few years. Establish a herb bed, start thinning the wild orchard, tame the chicken run and pig run, and increase the parking space behind the garage/office. Eventually turn the rest of the land into a ginormous veg patch with a soft fruit cage, and decide what to do with the front garden and formal garden (huge pampas grass - horrible). The house is in really good nick so move in, plug and play. We have a lot of greenery to remove from the roof of the outbuilding and various walls, so that's a job for the first couple of weeks until I go back to work.

  • Tiglath, the veg garden sounds so nice. It brings memories of my grandparents house. So sweet.
Wish you best of luck and to complete as soon as possible.
Congrats to mutley74! I am surprised survey didn't detect mould. Don't think they even had a look on the garage don't think you can do much about it if is lower than street. Maybe clean it now and then and that's it for now. Otherwise you can dig and put some isolation outside. I am sure there is resolution of the problem.
  • Wow Tiglath your new home sounds amazing i'm thinking it all sounds very Beatrix Potter :)

What a nuisance about your garage Mutley! our new house has been empty almost a year now, with no heating over the winter - we went back after the furniture was removed to get a better idea, and given how long things have taken (NOT vendor's fault!) we'll be having a brief visit before exhange to make sure nothing is damaged, no burst pipes etc (and also to check theyve removed the freezers of roting meat from the outbuilding...)

No news today - stuck my head into estate agents this morning. He reckons it shouldn't be more than another month before we move (I won't hold my breath). he promised to ring buyers' estate agent and update me before he went home at 1 but no call and no email. Yawn.

Another removals bloke round this morning. 20 mins late... Also looked at google maps and reckons they can't get an 18 tonne lorry down our drive (or rather round the corner into our drive) so it would be a convoy of luton vans :rotfl: let's see what quote he comes back with :rotfl:

Tiglath, we're buying land too - SO excited to have space to do stuff with :j IF it ever happens, that is :rotfl:
