I’ve had some movement today finally. Searches are back and solicitor is sending me a report on these. 20 enquiries were raised to sellers solicitor, 18 satisfied, 2 outstanding.
Literally just need these final 2 enquiries sorting- they don’t seem too complicated reading what they are but documents are needed so who knows.

So once they’re back we can proceed to signing docs and setting an exchange/completion date.
Really hoping we’re on the final stretch now and we can have an exchange date agreed by end of next week- could be wishful thinking but I’m keeping my positive pants on!

My EA updates me maybe every 10 days but the EA for the house I'm buying is ON IT and goes down the entire chain every week asking where everyone is and feeding back to me and the seller. She's def earned her commission!!
My EA was like that on the house I recently sold. He was literally chasing down solicitors what felt like daily. Got us sold in no time. The EA on my current purchase is shall I say reactive rather than proactive. If I ask them to chase the seller/sellers solicitor then they will but absolutely do nothing off their own backs.

You'd think that they'd want the house off their books and commission in their pockets wouldn't you?

So frustrated with the situation! we were supposed to complete before the first SDLT holiday 31 March, then the buyer raised a query which delayed it all, and now we have everything back we want to complete 30 April, they said no as they want a Survey to be done! So they said complete 6th May, which we said OK.... then what happens?? they booked in survey 5th May?! i've gone back to let them know its unacceptable and they need to book it this week or early next week!

If you hear of a murder in London... it's me murdering our buyers!
My buyer is having a survey also.  It's booked for 4 May as it was the first available date (and it was booked a few weeks ago).  Seems they are all very busy.
But where are you in the process?  We are 5 months and 2 weeks in, with all our belongings in boxes and our vendor all packed and ready with 2 missed exchanges due to our difficult buyer, and seems we'll have another since they decided to have a survey. Once it hits May we will have to reapply for our mortgage, bank will not extend as we moved this mortgage offer from previous fall through purchase.

The whole process feels like it's taking its toll on us today... After our last sale fell through, we've been living out of boxes for three months. 90% of my clothes are in storage at my parents. We've totally fallen out of love with our house, and everything our neighbours do is driving us loopy.

The frustration of being at the point of exchange, but without the ability to set a date or move forward, is utterly soul destroying. We're now at 10 months of this. We don't even have a chain!

Both of us now swearing we will never, ever, EVER move house again.

@amyr, I feel your pain, 10 months for me too, selling my house 3 times and buying my onward purchase just as many! Supposed to of exchanged Monday, every day my solicitor has called to ask authority to proceed and everyday same answer the top of my chain refusing to exchange, despite agreeing on a completion date? I am at the end of my tether with it. I have also vowed I am never ever moving house again! That’s if I even end up moving. There was mention that the top want to exchange tomorrow - so time will tell I guess ....

Awful isn't it! We've never had anything like this and its draining in more ways than I imagined. Best of luck for tomorrow!

@amyr absolutely! It has literally taken everything out of me! I really thought we were on the home stretch, all agreed completion date - dictated my the top of the chain of course, but now they refuse to exchange! Any way, thank you, I have my fingers crossed for you, me and everyone else fighting through. There’s got to be an easier way surely?
  • @amyr I feel you pain also, our journey started Jan 2020, two fallen through sales and one fallen through purchase. Our current chain started November
  • Good luck to everyone hoping to exchange today. I have my fingers crossed but not holding out masses of hope that it is going to happen after the shenanigans at the top of the chain earlier in the week.
