Gants Hill residents fed up of ‘stupid’ fines for cars parked on drives

Irshad Nabee and other residents are angry about having their cars ticketed because the vehicles extend out onto the pavement due to many of the houses having short drives

Residents of Roll Gardens, Gants Hill, have revealed that since a new Redbridge Enforcement Officer was assigned to their neighbourhood cars parked securely on homeowners’ drives have been receiving tickets.

Irshad Nabee, Roll Gardens Neighbourhood Association chairman, said: “It’s just stupid – common sense would say that these tickets should not be given out.

Cllr Karen Packer (Con, Barkingside) suggests potential solutions including a residents only permit scheme or a temporary suspension of all ticketing in the area.

“But now some people are getting two or three tickets a day, just for having a few inches of their car hanging over the boundary of their drive.

The Barkingside councillor added it was “appalling” that residents were being put through the financial stress of facing needless fines.

Cllr Athwal, who has paid four parking fines while in office, also said overeager wardens will be retrained if necessary.

Maybe the residents should buy cars that fit on their drives or learn to park?

The residents have complained, many of the drives on their properties on this street, cant park on their drive ways in front of their own home, because the drive ways, which were built in the 1940's can not accommodate a modem car, some of the cars simply "over hang" the pavement as appose to parking ON the pavement. For this reason, it has noithing to do with "learning to park" or "parking on the pavement".

From the picture, i dont think the street can accommodate the cars. remember this has not been a problem until recently.

    I'll offer a few variations.

Gants Hill residents fed fines for cars parked stupidly up on pavements.

Stupid Gants Hill residents parked up on pavements are fed fines.

Gants Hill cars fed up of stupid residents. Pavements fine.

Most of the problem seems to be multiple car ownership - if they only had one car per house, they could park parallel to the property instead of at 90 degrees.

Street view shows some exceedingly selfish parking.

so what would you do then, make a rule only for this street to have one car??? maybe the reason why the car owners are parking at a 90 degree angle is because the driveways might be like that? no one has come up with a honorable solution as yet???

It has everything to do with learning to park. It's time the learnt to park somewhere legally.

That's alright then. They should just be allowed to carry on and never mind the rules.

Or perhaps they should only buy cars that fit on their property. Would they buy a sofa that was too big to fit in their living room and expect the overhang to poke through a party wall into a neighbour's lounge? Yeah, why not.

They are parked legally, they are on their own property, outside their home

No they are not. The photo in the article clearly shows they are not. Whether the council will continue to enforce the rules is another matter, but they aren't parked legally.
