  • Just back from a weekend away with a girlfriend who realised I needed a break!

It was a good weekend and I really did relax, but then I got the news that my BIL is in hospital - he has been going downhill for a while refusing food and drink and eventually got so tired and dehydrated my sister had to phone an ambulance who came and then sent a doctor round who said he had to be admitted, at 1am, he eventually got a bed at 4.30pm.

So whilst I came home full of plans we are now in the holding pattern of what happens next.

Meanwhile I should check my bank. did a fair bit of spending....

Sorry to read about your BIL hope they can make him more comfortable. I'm glad you got to have a break.
  • Sorry to hear about bil, but I am SO pleased that you got a break. You really needed it, and I hope it was good fun.
  • CC is nearly 800 pounds (!) Not all the trip mostly the vets....

Current account was overdrawn by 50 quid(!) but put in 70 from the mini emergency fund (which is now about a tenner!!)

Other account has £110 in it.

    Loan = 3898

Which if I wanted to pay off before 2019 would be 860ish on top of my current payments.

It might be possible. It might not. I get paid in 6 days, we shall see where the land lays then.

  • Holiday has gone like this

Phase 1. Happy - away, busy with friends.

Phase 2. REALLY FREAKING HOT. got nothing done.

Phase 3. Happy busy, seeing friends out loads. Got garden cleared and summer house up.

Phase 4. Dog ill friends away, me utterly miserable.

Phase 5. Away again, very happy, so relaxed it was ridiculous.

Phase 6. Utterly miserable. unwell, worried.

Phase 7. hopefully starting tonight. Realising that this house and my lack of space is the biggest problem in my life and I really really really need to solve it.

I appreciate that sounds weird, as BIL is in hospital. But I can't do much about that apart from pray.

  • Also - some opinions are needed...

What do you guys think of Slim Fast?

I am considering for the following reasons.

    1. food at work is crap
    2. I loathe and deteste sandwiches.
    3. I can do it gluten/diary free (if I use the powder)
    4. It would solve the problem of lunch at work. which i barely get to eat any way (!)
    5. It would solve a lot of problems with Mum and dinner (if I do other "diets" healthy eating etc it can get complicated!)

    Downsides.

    1. bad example for the kids.
    2. it is a total fad diet.

    So view points please :)

    Hi Buffy,

I think you already know the answer to your question...It is a fad diet! So it might work in the short-term, but do you want to spend the rest of your life eating like that? Because as soon as you stop, you'll be back where you started.

I'm not dismissing your list of reasons why you feel this is the solution - I know it seems temptingly straightforward. I just don't think it's a good way to treat your body. If you don't mind me saying, you are ill or not feeling well quite often. No doubt it's for several reasons, not just diet, but I can't help but feel if you improved what you are eating even just a little bit you might feel a bit better overall. Do you walk much? I find it so helpful for my head and my health.

If you want to lose weight my view is you'd be better off doing something like using myfitnesspal to work out a set number of calories for YOU and then changing that to get results.

I hope the last week of the holidays is a good one for you and that your BIL is improving. You have a lot on your plate and I am in awe that you manage to keep it all together! Keep booking holidays and seeing your friends. xx

Step AWAY from the SlimFast young lady :naughty: feed your body what it needs.

You mentioned a goal of 3 fruit and veg a day. Make soup! 2-3 portions of veg in a good bowl of homemade soup so lots of vitamins and filling (and warming, which will be welcome later in the year).

Your body will thank you in the long run, as will your bank account - you can make a LOT of veg soup for the cosy of a tin of SlimFast powder.... Plus you know you will try it, it will taste boggin' and you won't finish the tin...
