Whereas most people have other people to think about... my girls are my priority and I don't care if it's mcdonalds or the street corner if I need to put food in their mouths I will.
I don't think his priorities would change even if he had little mouths to feed to be honest IA. He sees his parents (and mates) not working, the house and car have been given to them so what does he need a job for?Trying to sort my life out, and I'm going to get there!0 -
He unfortunately sounds just like my brother - he left school at 16 with no quals and dossed around getting stoned and flitting from one job to the next barely lasting a week or two. He had lots of friends that did the same however one by one they all "grew up" and got reasonable jobs (I'm surprised how well some of them have actually turned out) however he still doesn't - he's now 32! He worked for about 10 weeks last year and that was the first for about 6 years (I kid you not).
I have had partime jobs since I was 16 and all through Uni including working in the local chicken processing factory (stuck that for 10 weeks), the local pig processing factory (several summers), nights in the mobile phone factory, kwik save etc so I have no sympathy with him. I really don't get where he's coming from as he seems stuck in a timewarp where he thinks he's 16, i/e sleeps all day, sits in his room playing with his guitars and surfing the net.
The one small plus is that he isn't actually claiming any benefits (cos they's nag him to work). My mum subsidises him really basically because my father works away a lot and she likes the company, I've tried telling her to get tough but she won't have it. I worry what's going to happen to him when my parents aren't around.0 -
I know someone similar to this guy (from what we've heard anyway). We're both 24 (sob I remember writing 18) and he used to be my best mate during school, but since we left, he's pretty much not done anything since. He';s had all sorts of random jobs from cigarette factory worker, to packer, to well everything really, but he exists on this belief that he will one day become a rock star (I kid you not). He's works maybe, 2 weeks a year a case of I'll try it, "nah that's boring" and leave a day later. Occasionally he "gigs" with his band, but by the time he's paid everyone else he's left with £100 tops for himself. Lives with his GF who works full time and he doesn't even do jobs round the house. He just gets up around 2pm and watches TV. But when you can get paid by the government for doing that and job prospects aren't good, it must seem like a cushy option I would imagine. OMG he could be my brother, apart from the age!
He has his own recording studio in his bedroom where he plays for hours. He has never actually sent any recordings to anyone or played in a band. I think he's hoping that some record company big wig will walk past my parents house and hear the sounds of his guitar playing out his bedroom window, the big wig will then break down my parents front door and drag the undiscovered rock god that he is off to the recording studio - yeah right!0 -
Oh the in house studio I know that 1. £15,000 in his house bought on CC's heh. 5 guitars, amps, speakers the lot.LBM 2 - 27.05.09. I did this when I was young. I left home at 15, moved to a town where I met lots of friends, rented a sofa and worked all over the place - a bit of double-glazing, a bit of cinema, selling shoes - whatever was going and whenever I felt like it.
But I never signed on for any benefits - I never scrounged off friends or the state, and had a blinding time getting drunk, slobbing around with friends and making music! :beer:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

That's the sort of thing I would do.....sheer bloody mindedness!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
It drives me crazy when i hear people slating mcdonalds as a job. I worked there for a total of nearly 5 years full and part time and i'm proud to put it on my cv. The hourly rates not bad, the work is simple and as fun as you want to make it, it's busyenough that you don't get bored and theres career progression if you want it. For my degree I had to do 2 workplacements and MCDs got me into one of hte biggest advertising agencies in the world. Not only that, but the social life was out of this world! Pretty much all the hourly paid staff are students or teenagers with very little responsibility and a reasonable disposable income, and i used to be able to go out virtually every night if i wanted to. Oh and my little bro was a bit of waster when he left school. He flitted about a bit, found his thing and never looked back. Don't write him off yet!0

Just a thought.....do any of his family actually buy from McDonalds? Or Burger King, or anywhere fast food-esq?
If so...do they want food from a clean & hygienic venue & reasonably efficient service?
Until they can program robots to do the humans work....then someone has to do it.
If they eat there yet it's beneath them to work there...perhaps they could boycott the food and go home and make a nice healthy salad instead?Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
