Is working at McDs something you would do?

I think you're all right, it makes me so mad that he won't even try! I know it's not my problem as he isn't really anything to do with me it's just his (and his mum's) attitude absolutely infuriates me .
Dearbarbie have you seen how much managers get paid?
Hypno his (unedited) cv would look terrible to prospective employers, bottom line is I don't think he wants to work.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

But I would think I could easily pick up a job in retail or bar work which I would do if it came to it.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

With all due respect to your BF's brother, at the moment he obviously CAN'T do better than that or he would be working! There is no job that I wouldn't do to keep a roof over my head and the wolf from the door.
Have a chat with him again- if he gets a job with them he may find that he actually likes it and can earn decent money! A friend of mine actually ended up as one of their restaurant managers despite leaving school with no qualifications.
I think it says so much about the state of our society that perfectly able people who are without jobs and (I'm assuming) claiming benefits still think that they are in a position to refuse 'undesirable' jobs. At his age, I assume that he's not bringing up children, and you haven't mentioned any problem that prevents him from working, so what exactly is his contribution to society?Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

MERFE he can't drive.
He had an interview on wednesday, my boyfriend got home and asked him how it went his response was "I didn't go, I couldn't be arsed".
He just sleeps all day then gets up at about 5pm all his mates come round and they get stoned.

At the end of the day, its a job. If it made the difference between getting the bills paid or not, I would definately do it!
It really angers me when people are on the dole for no reason other than they cannot be bothered to work.... I could not go on the dole/claim benefits knowing full well that there's no reason why I can't work. If ur fit to work, u should work! - Obviously people have restrictions, ie single parent families, people with disabilities etc, but these are the people that the benefits system should be helping, not lazy teenagers who think they are 'too good' to work at McDonalds! - no offence OP!:o
How does he expect to get a 'proper' job (what is a 'proper' job anyway!?! I thought any job that paid wages was a 'proper' job) when he left school with no GCSEs and clearly doesn't want to stick to anything? - IMHO I would have jumped at the chance to be an apprentice mechanic/plumber/sparky/chippy if I'd had no GCSEs..... these are the guys making all the money now anyways!

I would work there if it meant the bills got paid or whatever.
Also, I think taking jobs like this looks better on your CV than a period of unemployment.
Finally, whilst pride can be a good thing, it also comes before a fall.....
I think there's more pride in doing a job - any job - when you're capable of working - than not making the effort to go out and earn your own money.
Personally, I've worked in the food industry and it was the thing I've enjoyed least of everything I've done - but it does suit some people. And I'd do it again if it was a choice between that and not working.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I think people who won't consider work like that are frankly stuck up their own bottoms. A job is a job. He doesn't sound like he's trying out different jobs, he sounds like a waste of space. Couldn't last more than one shift packing for twelve hours? He needs a good smack and to be made to get a job and hold it down, wether it be Mucky Mcs, binman, admin worker, or anything.

That's what I was wondering - what is he doing for money in the meantime?
If his Mum is 'helping out' then he probably doesn't feel the need to get a job, which isn't doing him any favours in the long run.
Perhaps he's worried that he might see his friends in there, as our local ones seem to be the main place to 'hang out' for kids these days.:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
