KonMari 2017 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

satisfaction all round, judging by the above posts. Yay, the feelgood factor is catching, I feel it
Two minor coats and a book to cs yesterday and I quickly bought 3 temporary books for simple winter engrossedness, nothing stimulating, just pleasant. Grey and damp today and I had a slight problem finding warm enough trousers yesterday, an obvious job for me this morning. Ex-summer sort out and winter stuff moved to my bedroom. I can see me filling the cs bag today, any clothes I just don`t want to wear. Trousers yesterday were hanging on me a bit due to nice visible weight loss, not yet enough hanging to chuck so I will wear much to get some value from them
Nice cheery music while I work, just got to shower and change first0 -
All of my things that he didn't see an immediate need for, he would suggest throwing away.... and all of his things I knew there was no definite need for, I suggested donating. And there you have the gist of our discussions every time we clear out an area of our house
.
Sounds like the conversations in our house

one hour later with a strong coffee and I am well and truly brain boggled. Only got 4 things on the floor for the cs. Since widowed, I spread out, into twice as much wardrobe space, I consoled myself with my one and only cruise and listened to experienced cruisers, ok panicked big time. Heard about a site called `just last season` and bought left right and centre plus Bob Mackie stuff. I managed fine on my cruise, left most of my buys at home, well fitting too. No excuse but that is why I have far too many clothes plus the fact that I love sewing and made lots, all well -fitting
In one small wardrobe I have justin, lightweight holiday clothes, funeral clothes for any season and coats. Another small wardrobe, smart and fitting light tops/skirts/trousers. Main wardrobe, what I wear every day in 2/3. other 1/3 lots of body warmer type tops. I was/am hoping for layering opportunities this winter. I have good empty spaces in a large set of bedroom drawers, 4` high and quite wide. After coffee, I will get back to it, putting neat categories into the drawers and storing good everyday summer tops in the bottom drawer. No need to buy/make any skirts, I have plenty for winter and plenty of trousers, including smart enough and soft cords for inside with elastic easy waists. The magic key this year has to be cardis and similar
I am hoping to end up with 8 items for cs. Fingers crossed0 -
It took me ages to shred an ordinary supermarket shopping bag of waste - its turned into a big black binbag ... very glad to have it out of the house and not taking space, as the builder is confirmed for Monday 13th. So now I really have to work at moving stuff, and I'll also work at compressing what I've got into the smallest space I can.
An old dressing gown is going away today: as its 100% cotton towelling, big chunks are going to my niece for her rabbit
and the rest is going to ragging at a charity shop. 2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
DS's room is finished :T Just waiting for the gloss to harden off properly (OH did it last night) before putting it back together. THis will massively improve the volume of 'stuff' cluttering up upstairs. the biggest thing to Kondo is a double bed mattress that is superfluous to requirements. it is only a year old (DD had it at uni last year) and it had a mattress cover on for all of that time. I am hoping to flog it - but if that's not successful i will freecycle.
WE currently have two mattresses on the landing and partially going into the spare room. DS's stuff is cluttering up the spare room and DD still has stuff on the landing... My aim is to have it all clear (apart from spare mattress) by the end of the weekend. i will also be able to clear some downstairs clutter too as it is DS's guitar bits and keyboard that can go into his bedroom. We have to go and buy him a bed frame today (the old one didn't survive its dismantling
) and it has to be a frame so that we can hide some stuff under it..
my fear is that once this stuff has all been moved, i will then find the ironing basket...:rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
WD vjsmum, what a nice goal achieved
I finished upstairs, very happy and can see spaces. I will obviously have lots more space at the end of next winter, I have woolovers tops, lightweight and now hanging in my wardrobe, they were good value but don`t last, it will be their last winter being useful. 18 empty hangers put away and a full 5 skirt layered rack is empty, I see progress. I somehow managed to get 8 items together for the cs. Lots of folded summer tops in a bottom drawer, I used a flipfold that I have had for a few years. Everything comes out the same size and with one extra foldover, makes that KM line of tidy tops. Three lines in a drawer, lots
Now I will look for black camisoles for under spring weight hm drapey jumpers. They tend to show straps and have v necks, lovely to wear but I need that shoulder-covering layer for layering tops. Maybe black t shirts. I have flighty camisoles but destined for out next spring, maybe
I also thank the day when I accumulated several pairs of very comfy cord elastic-waisted trousers from lands end, absolutely perfect for all those indoor winter days, Rolled in a drawer, easy to spot. Next job really has to be tights, warm winter ones or I will end up not wearing my skirts, a task for tomorrow morning. Tasks keep me going. I am pretty sure I have enough winter tights stash, just need to get them together0 -
I just ordered two black short sleeved, round neck pure silk vests. I am sure they will look fine as layers under my drapey home knitted tops
:j plumber is coming. I did a lot of detective work last night and was able to pin down 2 faults. ch and hot water were both off. I manually put them back on so am sure the faults are the right ones, will save me £££££s as he is carrying both parts on board0 -
A good while ago I am pretty sure I mentioned that I hoped to improve our kitchen/diner by getting a smaller table, in particular a Pembroke style table.
A few months ago I left a cheeky commission bid at a local auction house (despite the potential buyer's fees, GQ!). I was beaten that time.
Today I bid online for a similar table at the same auction (could not get there in person). Guess what? Yep, I got it!
A lovely mahogany table for a total of £76 inc all fees
So I have to find an exit strategy for the current incumbant :rotfl:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

ch and hot water sorted and as always, my plumber is so very honest and reliable. I have known him for seven years. It was indeed the 2 faults I spotted but the fault that caused one fault was down to a faulty hall thermostat, clever man tracing the wiring like he did, easy job when he calls again with the replacement. I won`t need to kondo too much money
Freezer KM continues apace and I am making an effort to use something out the freezer every day. You don`t notice it making space at the time but over a month, it makes a difference. I need to keep steady at this, I definitely do not want to get into panic mode when I come to move
It has to be KM tights today, I need to put them somewhere in reach and specific and it will mean delving through my undies and sock drawers because I know they are in several places. I wore two cotton tops yesterday but did not feel at all cosy when the evening cool came in. They are going out as tbh are only really suitable for carving sessions in public, or allotment and I have enough for that
MM well done, you must still be on a high. I gave my larger table to my dd and it has good use for their family. It had extending leaves but was still quite big. I replaced it with a small table about 1m square, it has two layers and swivels and flips open to make the most ideally sized table for a gathering, perfect for cutting fabric too
Ok I want to pace myself today as in I don`t want to procrastinate, it looks like a mixed weather day with some sun so it is about time I got back out on my bike. Tights first then bike0 -
:T Oh well done, MMF007. If memory serves, the one you missed out on last time was a Pembroke table, I take it this is the same kind of thing? That's a good price at your end, not so good from seller's pov.
Had a bit of lie-in today, until 07.30 am, which is over two hours later than normal. I was planning an allotment/ pottering at home/ visiting a pal day but the weather has set in rainy and tomorrow is forecast dry, so I will have to re-think my plans.
Easing into the day with a cuppa, will then make a list of the niggling un-done tasks and decide which of those I want to tackle today. Some of these tasks are sort-of kondoing because they involve me having things at home which need some action (i.e. mending) before they can be sent on their way, including a shirt of my brother's.
Onwards, and hope everyone has a great day, whatever your weather is like. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
