Thanks Camelot. Worst bit is probably going to be all the decision-making. Paint colours, curtain poles, lights, flooring...

Very true greenbee. Sometimes the decisions had to be made pretty quikly which I found quite stressful.

I had an idea of what colours I thought I wanted then when the rooms were all renovated I changed my mind!

Kittie ,that coat is lovely ,I have a red wool coat dh bought me ,it's a bit dressy, so I keep it to wear when going somewhere nice, instead of my big quilted ones. I've had it years and always get compliments on it.

The playmobil has left the house, :T well most of it one buyer, had the winning bid then changed her mind and said it was too dear! !!!!

    So, the garage....

DH was working from home 7am-7pm. It was very calm, as he had only 3 colleagues to support and their computers were running without any problems most of the day. He started his work day on the sofa in his pyjamas, watching some film until 11.30. I had taken out everything around the washer and dryer out of the garage, gave everything a good clean, and removed all the sticky cobwebs from the ceiling. In the meantime, I did 2 loads of laundry and line dried them in the sunshine. We had lunch together, then he suggests we need to give the house a thorough clean. I reminded him that he had the day before agreed to clearing the garage, and as it was gorgeous weather, we could take everything out, give it an airing and a clean, and put back in whatever we decided to keep. He reluctantly agreed and started carrying things outside.

All of my things that he didn't see an immediate need for, he would suggest throwing away.... and all of his things I knew there was no definite need for, I suggested donating. And there you have the gist of our discussions every time we clear out an area of our house :D.

Anyway, we agreed on putting several items on our drive with a sign 'free', and a few items were gone within the hour; success! We now have a relatively clean garage (we didn't take everything out, just the most annoying stand-in-the-way items), we have a pile of items to go to the tip, and we have a couple of items for the secondhand shop. Our garage now has a clear floor, all items are in the gorilla racks, and I have two shelves at eye level dedicated to my gardening stuff! Woohoo! And now that we've made a start, I can do a bit at a time on Wednesday mornings and weekend evenings.

Kittie - your coat dilemma got me thinking. I was given a beautiful heavy duty jacket for my husband by one of my suppliers when I was working. DH hasn't worn it much as he says its a little bit 'close' across the shoulders and too warm! I've been invited to a retirees tea at my old firm and I've contacted one of the 'lads' to see if anyone would like it (it has a company logo on it) and its been grabbed! I'll take it with me in a couple of weeks. I've also managed to sell DH's old paragliding suit on fleabay - only put it on there as an afterthought and its gone for a good price so another win!
Siebrie - I feel your pain - I have to 'drip feed' DH with the hint and leave it to percolate for a few weeks/months ;)
Greenbee - will that be the last of all your renovations now? You've been working so long I'm sure you'll be glad to see the back of it. Its a bit like childbirth - once you see the end result you tend to forget all the pain that went before! and what's this about a new job? have I missed something??

I'm hoping this will be the last of the renovations silvasava, but it depends how much gets done between Monday and mid-January. I may not get the kitchen done, but the rest should be possible.

New job - I've been offered a fantastic opportunity, so resigned on Friday. I've now finalised my dates so need to print, sign and send the update docs from my new employer tonight/tomorrow morning. I've got a couple of weeks to do a handover, and then I'm on gardening leave. Or supervising builders leave, which I'm sure they'll be thrilled about...

Ooh greenbee, new job and the end of the renovations in sight. How exciting!

A few more things out of the door today and some older cans of food have been slowly munched through over the last week before they go too far ood.

Some paperwork came in over the last few days which has to be kept unfortunately. OH has been tackling his piles of paper over the last week and quite a lot has gone into recycling and shredding.

  • Great news Greenbee. I always longed for gardening leave but it never happened. Now I'm self employed I have more time but less income!

I decided this week to paint the lounge, long overdue. Pre KM the thought of moving everything was too traumatic. Now, it's not so bad and I decided to do one wall ar a time to minimise the upheaval. Yesterday I emptied my big bookcase, and was astonished at how many boxes it filled. Today I was able to replace the bookcase, and so I went through the books as I put them back.

Now, I 'did' books at least a year ago, and I've often posted on here about how much I love books, and that even though I still have a lot of them, they all spark joy. Guess what ... I've cleared about a metre of shelf, and have a bag for the CS. Another pile is to be re-read before donating. And some photo albums which are too big and stick out are going to be relocated as I realised they don't spark any joy at all looking like that. This process never really stops, does it!

Siebrie , it sounds like the day was very satisfying, in the end!
greenbee, :j great news about the new job, and the gardening leave!!
Lots of LBMs about coats and books! It is true that one can have a really good go at kondo-ing and still hone the joy meter as time goes on, so more items can depart.

Yesterday i took a small bag of kibble to CS, very much bric-a-brac and odds n ends. Another pot pourri holder went :)

Looking round the LR just now I realise that this week's incoming paperwork (bank statements, oh, yes, still paper for me!, some invoices and the village newsletter ) have piled up in the 'awaiting filing or disposal' tray. I have put it on my Friday 'to do' list :D

It's been a strenuous week at work so not much has been done in the evenings. Even my day off involved taking an elderly friend out for the day, which was nice but surprisingly tiring.

I shall have to kondo the beautiful bunch of lilies my DH brought me because the scent is absolutely overwhelming. It is making me feel quite queasy :( I shall take them to my neighbour, she'll love them.

I did kondo sugar into marmalade but the filled jars seem to take up a lot more room now :rotfl: Lemon maramalade, btw :)

Am itching to re-do many categories of clothes. I am putting in a concerted effort to lose a stone before xmas and that should take me down another size. Patience is a virtue and the time will come :D
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Congratulations on the new job Greenberg. Will you still be traveling to ' forn parts' ?
List of small jobs to do today. Drop off an anniversary card for DS2 and DiL, return a jacket to the CS that I bought for DH that doesn't fit and take them a bag of odds and sods in donations. Unused coffee percolator, ceramic stilton jar, some books and any other kibble I can find. I'd taken the sprayhood off my boat to give it a scrub to get the seagull poo off it. Most has come off but some has left some stains so need to get some canvas cleaner. I've got a voucher for a local chandlery so no outlay!
