  • Evening all. I hope everyone had a good weekend. It was reasonably productive here - I now have 2 Christmas cakes made and I made coconut and line sponge for tonight's dessert so my parents will be eating that for the next few days:)
I made square Christmas cakes this year as I found it easier to come up with decorating ideas last year. I just need to get the cake boards well ahead of time as I've left it late before and found that they are suddenly outrageously expensive for what is just a piece of cardboard really.
My family agreed a few years ago not to exchange gifts as we all have quite enough so I only have hubby and my late uncles wife to buy for. She lives around 400 miles away so I need to mail her gift. I bought perfume not realising I couldn't post it like any other gift. I was told it could only be mailed at a main post office so last week I was near a main office (nearest one is 25 miles from home now) and I called in to check. They said I could post it but would have to list the make of perfume, the volume and the cost on the label that goes on the outside of the package. There would be absolutely no surprise in that so now have a very expensive bottle of Chanel and I'm back to the drawing board on her gift. What a pain!

Definitely a nip in the air up here. I still have tomatoes in the greenhouse but I need to get them out next weekend at the latest as the electric heater is on quite a bit and there aren't enough to justify the amount of power being used to keep it warm.

I'm off South this week for a three hour meeting which has resulted in an overnight stay. Sometimes I wonder how big companies actually make any money sending me all over the country for something minor but I'll make the most of the time and hopefully pick up some Fortnum and Mason Christmas coffee in the airport duty free on the way home. I once gave some to hubby's aunt and she loved it so it's been a while and it would be nice to take it to her just before Christmad rather than my customary flowers. She always has lots of fresh flowers so I'm sure nice coffee would make a change.

Well I'm off to catch the end of Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves which hubby is watching. I have a real soft spot for the late Alan Rickman, he was the best baddie ever as the Sherrif of Nottingham:)

Scottishminnie I can understand why posting perfume might be a health and safety issue but a health and safety issue doesn't need the cost of perfume does it? what a pain.
  • Off to look at a house today and just had a call from Ru, Orley is poorly again so I'll be down there looking after him until Friday at the earliest, He Who Knows will come home and I'll be back on the train whenever! I'll catch up with you all over the weekend xxx.

Poor little lad, I hope he's much improved by the time you read this, Lyn, and that the house was worth the viewing.

I'm just back from my outpatient appointment with the respiratory consultant. I've had an x-ray - all the fluid on my lungs has gone :j my breathing test was in normal range :j and I have had umpteen viles of blood taken testing me for all sorts :j I've had permission to reduce my asthma inhaler since the breathlessness has gone but I have to keep an eye on my peak flow and up it if I see change :j and the best bit? He hasn't signed me off and I go back in 4 months time :j I finally feel like I'm being looked after. He told me that if I as much as feel a chest twinge I go to the GP immediately. I'm allowed to tell the receptionist that it is on his say so and I have to reiterate that they aren't to rely on chest sounds alone I have to have an urgent blood test to look for infection markers and high white blood cells. Never again do I have to endure 'your chest sounds clear' and be sent home to get worse. :j

The heart failure episode was touched upon. My progress without treatment for this supposed failure is promising but I'm to chase up the GP for the echocardiogram referral.

I'm so happy and for the first time in a long time my heart rate in that type of situation (I go giddy with nerves so the anxiety is very much ramped up) was below 100. :D

Now, we just need to have more freezing nights to kill off the nasties and hope I haven't picked up anything in the ruddy hospital.

    I'm a happy fuddley person tonight :D
