Fuddle we were in Edinburgh a couple of years ago for a family wedding...one of the Grassmarket bars had a chalk board outside with "Man creche - a pint an hour" :)

Fuddle - glad you had a good time. It's blooming cold up here now but I'll take that as long as it stays dry. If the Safari park was Blairdrummond I'm only about 12 miles from there. It a nice part of the country. Let me know when you are next coming up and I'll let you have some suggestions for coffee/lunch which are just off the main routes but well worth visiting.

I had sheets out on the washing line today as it was breezy - they maybe only dried 60% but enough to avoid using the tumble drier and also avoiding ironing so a double bonus:D

I had family for dinner last night so I had 3 portions of beef and porcini mushroom stew to freeze today. I'm trying so hard to use up the freezer contents but I seem to take one thing out and put two back! Still half looking for another freezer - must make a serious effort over the next few weeks.

I have a whole week at home ahead , well mostly in the office but no travel any further which is good. Looking forwards to some cosy nights at home now the clocks have gone back. I have several books which I bought months ago so I should now get a chance to read them.

MrsLW - that's a pity about the house being sold but I'm a great believer in fate - or as granny used to say (in a broad Glaswegian accent) "what's fur yea will no go bye yea"!

Hope everyone is enjoying the last of the weekend.

Orley is well enough to go back to nursery today thank goodness, he's had an awful lot of health episodes in his short little life but thankfully he's been back to the cleft clinic and they've said they won't need to see him again until he's 5. He has a sound for the Zebra child, almost his name as he sings Eeya when he sees big brother, so sweet!

We're (unless something emergency crops up) at home for two whole weeks now without any appointments or trips that will mean long drives which will lovely. I will still be keeping a finger on the housing pulse in case anything suitable comes on to the market in the area we want but it will be lovely to get back to normal day to day routine for a while and
I can just get on with the jobs and living domesticity! bliss!!!

Anyone else doing 'Halloween' for the youngsters in their area? I've just carved the biggest pumpkin we grew and it turned into a cat face, the stem is still on the lid and looks just like a tail, really pleased with it as it's halloweeny enough to be fun but 'cute' enough not to scare the tiniest Trick or Treaters! I have lots of sweeties and biscuits too, such fun!

Brilliant news bout Orley's health. I'm somewhat shocked to understand that little baby is talking! Where did that time go?!

Halloween is my nemesis. I've lived in some 'funny' places with even 'funnier' folk. We tested the waters here and put the pumpkin on the window sill from 5.30-6.30. The kiddlers came thick and fast between those times, nothing before or after pumpkin and very chirpy 'thank you!' and giggles when it was in place. It's been a nice experience so therefore we'll make more effort next year. Have you had fun Lyn. I know you go all out for the young ones. Did you bake this year?

We had some good news today. Well, we made good news.

You know we have had a caravan these past 18 months. We adore her but she's caused us no end of problems while pulling her and I've begun to worry about the prospect of having her on tow. What's made it worse DH is losing his confidence so much so we've talked about selling her. We really don't want to let her go as already we have some cracking memories in her. To cut a long story short we have paid a deposit to have her sited in south west Scotland from March next year. We need to tow her up there but once there she's staying put on a site that has a swimming pool, archery, pony trekking, fishing, walks/cycling from the site. We're so happy to find a way to keep our caravan in a way that fits with us. Does that mean my dream of having a second home in Scotland has come true? :rotfl:
  • We've had MEGA FUN pet, so many callers I lost count starting at 5ish just as it got dark and still calling at 8, in fact the last group of 4 came as we were taking the decorations indoors and I all but emptied what was left into their hands, then had to give them some freezer bags to take the goodies as they were in danger of dropping the lot. All the younglings said thank you, were very polite and until encouraged took just 1 sweetie from the heap and would have been happy with that. I didn't bake this year BUT I did buy packets of biscuits, some gingerbread mini men, some packets of party rings and some packets of chocolate marshmallow tea cakes which proved to be the more popular option rather than the sweets. Glad you had callers too, it's so disappointing to make the effort and then have no one to play with.

Orley is making a whole range of sounds, at the cleft clinic they had a speech therapist who somehow managed to get him to give her the whole range of sounds that he can make and he's ahead of the average but the only identifiable sound is his Eeya word which he makes whenever he sees Ezra so I'm pretty certain it is his name. Nell had a fab evening too and ran out chocolate so had to shut up shop this evening, I know Ezra et. al. had a pumpkin because we grew it and Ru sent us photos of it carved, I'll catch up with her on Friday and find out how they got on.

I put a battery tea light in a jar on the doorstep, and a tall candle by the window just beside the door to let the trick or treaters know we were joining in... I had made mars bar crispie cakes with white chocolate on top which all went. The treat-size sweets are still here but a neighbour helps run a local soup kitchen so will give him those to take away from DHs temptation!

Fuddle that's great news about your caravan... nice and handy with plenty to do for all. Yes I think that counts as a Scottish second home ;):)

What a lovely idea for your caravan Fuddle we spent most of our childhood holidays in the west of Scotland as darling Dad was a great one for getting away from it all.
Unfortunately we live too far out of the village to get any little !!!!!s or goblins, I still purchased a bag of treat size Maltesers for Capt S's benefit and put my little, battery powered pumpkin in our kitchen window, just to join in like :)
  • It's definitely a second home Fuddle:D it's a great feeling knowing that you have a bolt hole and can (in theory even if it's not that easy) drop everything and go there whenever you want. Here's to many happy times in your second home!
