  • Hope my chums are all safe from Ophelia. Not much sign up here, it's no windier than usual:D we picked the last of the apples from the tree today so the freezer is full and I still have tomatoes ripening however not sure how much longer that will continue as there is very little warmth or sunshine now.

Hoping MrsLW has received from her mishap and is enjoying the weekend and Fuddle is resting up as instructed. Easier said than done though!

I'm having a whole week at home (well in the office) with no trips so that will be good. I miss my own bed when I'm away and hubby hates dining alone so will be good to be home all week.

I'm off to bed for an early night tonight. My left hip is niggling a bit so I think I'll try to rest up for an extra hour or so and see if it helps. In all likliehood though it just means I will be wide awake somewhere about 2am!

Please can I have some gentle hugs? I've been in the wars over the weekend...yesterday I fell up the stairs in Sainsbobs, whacking my knee cap on the metal edge (cue very restrained Floss breathing through the pain and a multi coloured knee). Today I slipped down the last three stairs from our attic onto the landing carpet, wrenching my back muscles up my right side (more breathing thru the pain but i didnt land on my coccyx thank goodness!). DH was at the allotment with his phone on silent, got home around 2.5 hours later and took me to our minor injuries unit to be checked over & prescribed a box of co-codamol. I now have a big black bruise just above my knicker line and am rather sore :o

Ouch, ouch and triple ouch, Floss! All I can say is, take the painkillers regularly for the first day or two then slowly wean yourself off them. Try and keep moving so you don't stiffen up. And watch your diet - loads of fruit and veg so you don't get constipated from the painkillers! Some folks swear by arnica for bruising, others just swear!

Hope it eases for you soon.

  • Have as many gentle hugs as you want Floss . It sounds as though you'll be needing a bit of rest this week . The co-codamol will hopefully knock you out . Try to steer clear of loft adventures for a while , I often do something similar usually rushing or not concentrating .
Hope the winds aren't too bad for us all . The downside of west coast living .

Hope the hip pain eases SM with a bit of luck you're asleep now .
Not urgent as you're a busy lady but I've been meaning to ask you if you've ever bought any Brora clothes .
I know you like good quality clothes that last well and I've been searching for a winter midi skirt for the past few years . It's 16 years since I last bought a tweed one which is still ok and has paid for itself . However I've seen two on the Brora site one of which is my beloved Liberty fabric . I've never shopped with them and have no idea of how good their clothes are so if you've been in the stores or bought from them I'd welcome your feedback .
Did you manage to rescue the cardigan that turned pink? I have wondered .

Stay safe on the west. It's calm here but I cannot explain how horrid the sky looks. Something is coming.

Another one who has to 'gan canny' floss. Ditto the advice on those ruddy pain killers. In all seriousness I do hope you're not as sore today?

Nargle I accept! Massive change afoot. :)

Gentle hugs for Floss avoiding all bruises, I do use arnica on a regular basis and swear it helps :)
It's just very breezy here in East Anglia but the light is most strange, almost a yellow tinge to the clouds, Capt S assures me it's due to the sand being dragged up from the Mediterranean?
Lulu was a good girl for her Mum this morning and behaved very well despite lots of leaves blowing in her face, she's a diamond for sure :D
Stay safe everyone and hope that SM has had a decent night's sleep x

I hope you are a little less sore today and feeling less wobbly.

Snap on the sky - round here it has been a dirty grey yellow colour all day. I meant to get the bus to Leeds this afternoon to get a present for DD but it looks as if a storm is brewing so I am staying put with lots of tea, a good book and my feet up.

I got the flu jab on Saturday and there is a big red circle on my arm which hurts, especially when dd gave me a big hug and I yelped!
Hoping this means the vaccine has "taken" and will be effective as one of my dds has heard the NHS is very worried about this strain.

I very much agree with limiting the painkillers , they are highly addictive although you are probably aware already Floss. I hope you are safely indoors . We had a very dark start this morning with the lights needing to be on until after 8am . Then a morning of the yellow sahara sky, followed by blue sky and now I can hear the wind howling loudly through the double glazing , not normal at all . The trees are waving madly now so stay safe all .
Do not take yourself down to watch the waves Floss :rotfl:

Thanks for all the gentle good wishes...am coming out in multi coloured bruising :o The painkillers helped yesterday, but am just taking one 4x rather than 2 during the day as the pain isn't quite as bad.

We've had the dark start and dirty yellow sky, right now it's just a bit breezy but nothing worse than we've had before.

DH is just washing up before I make mushroom risotto for tea, nice and comforting :)

  • Hello, just back from a lovely weekend, the concert was fantastic and was Mendelssohn's 'Elijah', fantastic piece with some amazing 'wall of sound' moments from the choral society, a lovely experience. D E yesterday was also great fun but I did manage to hook a foot in a blackberry 'trailer' and measure my length again but this time it was a cushioned plummet onto a lovely tufty grass verge at the edge of a field so no damage done except to my pride! Strange sky and copper sun all the home on the train this afternoon, most odd!

FUDDLE make your own stock overnight in the slow cooker with veg peelings, onion skins etc and make a friend of your local butcher and cadge some bones for lamb and beef stock, 12 hours on low with no additives other than water gives you salt free stock that you can freeze. If you like you can reduce it in a saucepan and evaporate off some of the liquid after it's been in the cooker and has been strained and get concentrated stock. Freeze it in 1/2 pint (300ml) containers and you'll never have to use a stock cube again. If you have a whole foods/health food shop near you, you can get salt replacements that will be better for health and give you tasty meals. Ask to see a dietician who will be able to give you guidance and also lists of suitable brands for your medical needs. So much easier than trying to find all the information by yourself lovey! Chin up, with medication you'll be able to contend with and cope with all the symptoms and problems that a heart defect brings and hopefully because you're sensible and will do what you're advised to do life with the problem can be lived as normally as it normally is, with a few tweaks. Hugs girlie, you'll do! xxx.

FLOSS Ouch M'dear have some interesting bruises myself from the first tumble and am sending all my sympathy, hope you're on the mend xxx.
