You'll be so proud of me this morning.....in total desperation I am making French and runner bean soup, oh my goodness they are so generous with their beans this year, so many of them, neighbours slam doors and I hear bolts slamming closed as I walk down front paths with carrier bags.....and I don't blame them!!!0

Just discovered about a kilo of frozen runner beans from last year - good job I didn't grow so many this year lol! Well done on the soup Mrs L - may come in handy for itinerant gentlemen in the winterSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Need advice please Fencers. I'm planning an esape, a day trip inna train - but needs to be done and dusted in secret, because if the RV finds out he will squash it. He'll come up with 900 reasons why it's totally impossible and then say flatly that he doesn't want to go. Limpet doesn't come close
So I was thinking of Edinburgh to York - big huge adventure for us. But I've never bought train tickets online before and I can't understand how it works. If you haven't got an actual paper ticket then how do you get on the train? :rotfl: How do I prove I've paid and got a ticket? Haven't got a printer. I can't even get into Edinburgh to buy them at the ticket office as he will be with me, and we'll end up having a "domestic incident" in the booking hall:D

mar To be honest I'd get it out in the open now . One way or another words are going to said and may be better now than when you spring your " Surprise " Is Waverley your nearest station ? I'll need to check but I think you can prebook a day trip from any station .
If you want to go for the secrecy option do any of the family have a printer you could use when booking online? They'd have to be able to keep stum until you do the Cilla Black surprise, surprise .
Personally I'd get it out in the open you could have years before you both of his Sky and your Knitting and sighing for going places .
I dare you see what happens

Mar You can book them on line and pick up the tickets at the station. Just tell him they are already paid for. You will need either a credit card or a debit card, or PayPal to pay on line. If you have a smart phone the tickets can go on them but that has to be done at the station.
I was brought up in York, got no family left there. Enjoy your day. I hope you know it can cost you. If you have not been before highly recommend the Yorvick Centre. Enjoy your day.0 -
The only decent holidays I've ever had were sprung on the sod so he had no wriggle room Polly. I've had some mega fights over holidays and I haven't the energy to spare any more so a fait accompli is the way forward here lol. He's too tight to refuse to go if it's been paid for
Nobody has a printer. Drat.
Only way I can see then is to make this his birthday present - his birthday is the 8th Sept... Hmmmm. Off to work on a devious plot.
I do love a DP0 -
NM we went once many years ago, we had to go to look at a bike he was interested in. I had imagined a fabulous place full of Roman and Viking artifacts and ruins... and what I found was a huge carpark full of Spanish schoolkids who knocked me off the pavements.. But I would've loved to walk around the Shambles at 2 am... We lasted a day then took off home via Whitby and the Moors (cos we got lost lol) The moors looked just like home and I loved them.
This time there won't be any trekking around touristy stuff, its mainly for the train journey I'm doing it, so just be a wee wander around, a couple of tea & cakey visits plus a nice lunch.0 -
I didn't know that NM . You used to need a printout of the transaction to collect at the station . Smartphones etc have made things easier but I wasn't sure if Mar has a basic mobile like me .
The line is blocked as part of the bridge has collapsed so that's delaying the reopening of the station . May be a week or so more but checking that engineering information will keep you up to date .

Mar the journey to York is lovely. You can order from National Rail for collection at station using a debit or credit card. I often make up a birthday gift voucher for whatever concert DH has been bought a ticket for2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Mar You can book and pay for the tickets online and have them posted to you.
Or you can book and pay online then collect them from a ticket machine at the station using the card you used to buy them plus the reference number they email to you.
