Fuddle, speak to your GP about your DD having a course of immunotherapy.
    See here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hay-fever/

I had it years ago and now I have very few problems (although they say the effectiveness wears off over time). I think I had to get the jab every week for 12 weeks, in autumn / winter. Effective for the following Spring onwards.

ETA, Monna, I LOVE that thought for the day!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

I don't have any problems Lyn Everything is fine.

Monna I have made a not of that for the next time I have to ask DS about anything. Although just this last year he's admitted he knows no more than me.

That is so helpful to know MMF, thank you. :) It's put my mind at rest to know there is something that can help her. She hasn't used any steroidal stuff yet as she's still only 9 so I'm hoping once she is out of the younger years she can access some of the stronger stuff. The GP gave her Aymys last year but when I went for an appointment this year the receptionist told me that we can't access hayfever stuff on prescription now so I've been getting kiddy over the counter stuff for her nose but antihistamine as usual. The antihistamine isn't cutting it.

Does anyone know if there's a specific way to make stinging nettle tea? I have them on the plot but there quite tall now. I'm wondering if they're too old to use as tea. I'm in two minds whether to use them for my consumption or have them rot for fertiliser.

Fuddle, not sure if I read your last post correctly. IF you doctors receptionist said NHS weren't giving hayfever meds on prescription this is incorrect. My adult daughter still gets her prescription. The meds she takes aren't available OTC. Sorry if I have miss read your message. I guess my point is, you may want to consult her doctor if OTC aren't working.

Is local honey any help Fuddle (or is that just a myth?)
  • For nettle tea you just infuse the leaves in hot water and then strain all the solids out before drinking it. I don't think there is a nettle season for making teas, I know you can only eat the young leaves and then only the tips of the growing nettles and they would be much too coarse and fibrous to eat this far into the season. Tea should be fine though and use the smallest leaves from the tips of the plant. How many and how long you infuse for is a personal taste thing so experiment and you'll find what suits you.

As is always the way of these things our fan broke yesterday afternoon, it was quite ancient so we went to Argos for another one!!!..which was faulty, didn't oscillate and wouldn't fix on to it's stand!!!..so we took it back this morning and got a different model which has taken us 10 minutes to get out of it's packaging, every single part was stuck to every other part with tape and they'd even put a tie round the middle on the outside of the plastic covering and the tie was stuck to the inside of the box with tape too.....nightmare, I'm just waiting to find if this one is faulty too.....

    Morning all

The site is ok for me Mrs LW, hope you get it sorted.

Monna I use that with my kids but my version is ruder as I say I taught you how to wipe your a***.
Both my sons have worked in offices and helped mature ladies with their pc problems, both have complimented on their politeness when helping, my oldest son used to say 'I help my mum with her computer, if I wasn't polite I'd have been wearing my next meal.

I'm another one who eats like Monna, I make most of what we eat and stick to real butter, it doesn't stop me getting fat though, lol even though I walk a mile or 2 each day.

CHS managed to get the gin and the tonic to the boat in one piece despite the bag splitting along the way, has been suitable rewarded last night and this morning!!

Silva I'm glad to hear you are improving.

SS I've had photocopier engineers like that, it must go with the job.
    Chin up, Titus out.

Home-made anything tastes so much better with limited food-yards :D

I remember the first year DD1 tried growing some of her own veg. She described a carrot straight out of the ground as "You've never tasted anything so carrotty in your life!" and onions - "It's amazing! You put these little tiny black things into the ground and they turn into onions!"

Unfortunately the following year was that one a few years ago where the weather was so appalling that most people had very poor harvests, which put her off for a while. She's growing stuff this year though :)

Fuddle So sorry about the hives. The same thing happened to me when we went on holiday a couple of months ago - I put sunscreen on, but it seemed to react with the sunlight. Might be due to one of the tablets I have to take. Anyway, I've now got some for "sun-sensitive skin" and that works a treat. Your poor DD :(
