I hated sports day and phys ed! You have my full sympathy fuddle. I'll nudge a cool glass of elderflower cordial your way. Speaking of which I put a jug of water in the fridge with homegrown spearmint and lemon balm leaves crushed into it..I might just go and have some now.0

p.s. For tea we had baked lemon sole, sweet potato wedges and a salad made with leftover roast veggies, and homegrown lettuce, chives, oregano and basil. OH said it was 'top quality lettuce'
I didn't know there was such a thing but I'm quite proud and more than happy to boast a little. This is the first year I've had proper cut and come again that didn't turn to seed before I got to eat it.

Look online too
Not sure how Olivio will be for baking, but look at Trex to see how that rates as it is vegetable2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

FPK - chilled water with lemon balm & mint on my to do list for tomorrow morning
I've gone back to using butter - the spreadable one from Lidly as it's just butter and rapeseed oil.
My breathing is getting better.....slowly, but it's improving. Thank you all for your kind wishes - much appreciated.
Fuds - hugs! Sometimes I react to the sun but most of the time I don't - when I do it looks as if I've been scalded and the red bits are raised but don't irritate - just look awful.
HH - mark Monna's wise words with the gin - mind you I'm sure if CHS doesn't guard it with his life he will end up in the cut!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I'll bet you already have the eviction notice written and ready Hester. Just how furry is this woman? :rotfl: I'd be temped to leave the gin and tonic in the car and just go to the boot for refills, just to be on the safe side rather than let CHS loose
Monna, somewhere all of your lost posts are gathered together, in a tome as large as "War and Peace", only easier to read. When we happen across it, you should publishYour story of murmuring assent during one sided lectures reminded me of the photocopier repairman at work... if I actually had listened to him every time he comes out, I'd likely just need my own tools to set to.
FPK, it's the same with sugar. There are nearly 60 different ways it's listed on packets and hidden. It seems to me that food labelling is almost insidious, you're quite right to rant. The effort a person has to go to to avoid things they don't wish to consume seems frankly sometimes disproportionate.
Thank you for the weight well wishes, it feels pretty good. Even if we are having to go get more clothes :rotfl:
Fuddle, I can't tell really what is helping my health issues, diet or exercise, but yes, I am overall healthier. The sleep is better, less apnea, I do about treble the activity of previously and though I ache I am able to do it, my cardiac health according to the fitbit is dramatically improved (now very good to excellent) and my resting heart rate is down, but most importantly to me, I no longer feel like dozing off at midday every day!Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Morning all,
I'm just about to rouse OH. We're going to get the shop done early as I'm heading into Manchester for a lecture with a friend at one of the historic libraries. I presume OH will manage to find some football to entertain him but I try not to invite him to talk about it.
Softstuff I think sugar is probably far harder to avoid, although the requirement to include it in the nutritional breakdown is at least something. I have thought a labeling overhaul would be useful for a long time and now I'm even more convinced. I'm really pleased that you're feeling healthier. My dietary changes might be in a different direction but your dedication is truly inspiring.
Silva I'll look at spreadable butters as well.
Floss--I think trex is transfat free (although the Tesco 'baking block' isn't) but it still has a lot of the saturated stuff so working it in is quite tough.
It is my birthday weekend but instead of a cake I've decided I want to make myself a BHF version of tiramisu. I love tiramisu and the day i got my results OH had bought me one as a celebration. It took a lot of willpower not to eat it!
Right, I've stood at this fence gossiping too long!
Hugs to all who need them.x0 -
Softstuff, if anyone deserves the sheer pleasure of new clothes, you do. You have worked so hard on getting fitter and now it's time to reap the rewards. You enjoy them.
fuddle, the older I get the simpler I make my life. I find that I am returning to the way we lived when I was a child and rationing dictated our diet. We had the basics, flour, butter, margarine, meat, cheese, eggs and even a little sugar - actual sugar, not some chemical substitute - and everything else we could grow ourselves. I don't recall there being any talk of allergies. Of course, they may have existed but undiagnosed. I'm not pretending that this was some golden age of great health, life
was too precarious for that, but we certainly were not eating food that started life in a scientist's laboratory.
I feel so sorry that we now have to read long lists of ingredients before we even start to cook. It somewhat takes the sheer joy of cooking and eating out of life.
You are doing a sterling job of sorting out your health issues and no-one can know what that takes out of you.
You are a brilliant Mum, a loyal wife, a good friend and an inspiration to us all. Just wanted you to know that.
Oh, and I'm sorry about sports day. Whoever invented it should have to face the firing squad.
Now let's see if this post ends up in the black hole.
RESULT.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
To my children.
Never make fun of having to help me with computer stuff.
I had to teach you how to use a spoon.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.0 -
I agree wholeheartedly with you monna. Such kind words too. Is there a tongue in cheek?
joking. Thank you
I have been reading a lot about our blood type, our susceptibility and how what we eat can exacerbate things. I'm blood type O positive and susceptible to autoimmunity issues amongst other things. It is becoming clear to be that not only do I have reactionary airways in the air I breathe but I can't tolerate sunlight. What a bliddy mess!
When I read what I should be avoiding eating (and I'm talking about natural ingredients like grains, pulses, dairy and some veg) then it is no wonder, no surprise that given I was raised on 70'/80's booming packet/frozen/ping fast no cook food that I am beginning to decline.
I share your irritation fpk. As a nation our health, our education is not important. Fat cat money is and sadly, government sponsorship dictates far too much.
I'm not daft, I' ve educated myself about foods and ingredients and sometimes I have to make a guess about whether something fits my acceptable agenda.I'm cross about that. It should be clear.
DD's hayfever does worry me. I don't know anyone in either family that have hayfever. She wants to work in agriculture, outdoors with animals. I'm scratching my head wondering how to help, stop or reverse it. Clueless though0 -
