Oh, FairyP I'm so sorry that you have all this worry. So difficult when you are far away and all you can do is fret. At least communication is quicker and better these days and it will be a comfort to your mother to be able to talk to you.

Polly I hope your shoulder doesn't take too long to heal. Muscular damage takes so much longer than bones to heal and is so painful. It's amazing the things you find that you can't do?

MMF I really don't understand your neighbour. If someone accidently damaged something of mine while doing me a favour I would bend over backwards to make them feel OK about it.
One thing, you won't be volunteering any help again. Friendship and neighbourliness is much more important than a few scorched patches of grass that will recover quite shortly anyway.

Fuddle, has your DH ever thought of wrapping you up in cottonwool and not letting you move independently. It's the only safe way I would be letting you out unsupervised.

It's jolly hot here tonight. 26 in my room, and that's with the fan on. Millie is lying on her bed on my floor basking in the cool breeze. That dog lives in pure luxury! She is lying on her back with her legs stuck straight up in the air so that her tummy can be cooled.

I wonder if we will get the thunder again tonight. I wouldn't be surprised, its muggy enough.

    Sleep well. x

FPk So sorry to hear your news. Such a worry, especially if your parents are a long way away. Sending huge (((HUGS)))

pollyanna Lovely to have you back! I hope your shoulder gets better asap xx

MMF Sounds as if the grass may tirn out all right after all. Your poor OH, when he was just doing a good turn! xx

Emptynester Glad you've had a lovely time with the littl'uns! Now to get over it! Wishing you extra spoons xx

Camelot That sounds like a lovely break :)

i haven't done much today. Church this morning, then a friend gave me a lift home, which was great as it meant I didn't need to ring Mr ivyleaf to come a collect me; but then when I got to the front door I remembered my key was in the pocket of my rainjacket....which I'd taken with me in case it was raining after the service, but it wasn't, so I absentmindedly left the jacket over the back of the seat in front. So Mr ivyleaf had to take me back to church to get it. Then we went to get some rolls to have with tonight's dinner (burgers with at least some of the trimmings), and the paper.
I washed up the things that don't fit into the dishwasher, and cooked aforesaid burgers etc. That's about it really. Oh, and I did some laundry. Not an "interesting" day, but sometimes dull is better than the alternative :(

Mar I've been emailing the family tech . Advice is replace the graphics card . I don't know if you've done it before .
If you haven't you'll need to look at online instructions for opening up the laptop and replacing the card .
Unless you have a phone you can get online with read all instructions , if you have a printer copy them or write them down to refer to .

Hopefully a new card will fix it . If not it could be a hardware failure but lets hope it's the card .

It really is s*ds law the way things malfunction just out of warranty .
This is why this dell has had replacement fans , batteries and chargers over the years . The techie has replaced keyboards and fans and I've done replacement batteries and chargers . I'm keeping it and windows 7 going as long as possible .
I'll never find the same quality again now .

    Hope it gets sorted .

FPK sorry about your dad I hope they find out what is wrong tomorrow, and get it sorted.

If you had not said it I would have said "can't take you out". I think we had better get you a pushchair.

I am exhausted but have not done much since Thursday. I don't think I have got over 3 days to south Manchester in a week. I may need another week to recover.

I had a look on the Oasis website very nice stuff I virtually spent £200 in a few seconds. Not the most pricey but a bit over my limit. Very nice stuff though just my taste. I think I would buy for a special occasion like a wedding.

Thanks all. Mum and dad aren't that far away. They've been in Germany for years now, so much easier than getting back to the USA. Communication is much easier these days.

Right, off to bed now. I'm shattered.xx

If you have problems fastening buttons on blouses etc a button hook is very handy to own . I have large and small victorian ones and a modern Good Grips one and they're very handy for all the stupidly tiny buttons and button holes on my blouses and shirts .

When I iron them now I do up the lower buttons and hang them up That just leaves a few to do up when I wear them .

There are many little helpers for everyday tasks which make life easier , most of them are cheap . When I started my own thread lots of people came up with lots of ideas for making things easier with various health problems and fatigue . Most of them are near the start of the thread and you're very welcome to pop over if you want .
You've already met Wolfy and I here and at times other fencers drop by .

  • Life is sometimes very heavy and there are clouds where there was blue sky, frowns where there were smiles and sadness where there was joy but only by living through times like that can you know how it feels to step back out into the warmth and sunlight, Life is for loving those we share it with as much as we can while we can and knowing that love is returned measure for measure. Being human is not an easy thing but it's a beautiful thing once in a while isn't it?

Sleep tight FPK I hadn't realised your parents were now in Germany it's much more accessible .

NM You sound as though you need some rest and a chance to recover from those appointments . That's our problem at the moment , things will settle soon but at the moment each is a full length assessment of each of DDs illnesses which means a lengthy session We reached a point a few weeks ago when there were two in one day so it's led to a bit of burnout for us both .
It's such a shame about the buttons on the dress as it sounded lovely . i did wonder if there was any way around it but the only solution i could think of was if the buttons and holes were very small if it was possible to fit a zip instead if there was a way to disguise the buttonholes after the buttons were removed . All a bit too complicated really .
Something I forgot in my earlier post was a zip puller . I avoid back zips but do have a few clothes with them . A zip puller is very handy for them .
I'm glad you feel more settled now and have been able to get some washing out .
I do wonder if you would still feel you could stay where you are if you were offered a suitable flat instead . My worry is the problem with the rubbish and lack of help over the neighbour noise issues .
I know the council hold a share which is pretty much the norm when they pass former council housing to other owners but whoever is running your flats don't sound at all interested in any problems .
I'm so far behind I have no idea if they ever sorted the bin bags . That 's an environmental health issue and not good in this weather .
You do seem to be getting more sleep so that's a big positive .
Hope you have a rest tonight it's still too hot here and I'd welcome a storm to break the humidity .

Ah Polly no, don't have a problem with buttons or anything, just tiny jewellery clasps on necklaces and bracelets, I think I did have some magnetic clasps somewhere but couldn't fix them onto jewellery. No tools to do so!
Don't actually think I have anything with buttons on though anyway! But will look out for button hooks as they sound interesting!

Wise words Lyn We have to remember we can't have the rainbows without the rain . This old fence is a special place and we can share our highs and lows together

My posts are random as I still haven't caught up Thanks to Monna and ivyleaf for your good wishes . I do suspect it's calcification in the shoulder joint , I just need to get through these appointments of dd and then hand myself in to our Dr .
I hope your husband can realise he was not to blame for the grass scorching MMF . Your neighbour didn't handle her response well . It's happened to many of us in the past . I don't like to think of him feeling down after trying to help someone .
Helebore It was my daughter who first found magnetic clasps and chains , she was sent a chain by a friend after she broke the chain on her Pratchett necklace .
You can buy various chains online of different lengths . I'll have to ask here where . I've spent part of the weekend searching for a tiny silver and blue topaz rennie mackintosh pendant I dropped while trying to get a tiny clasp into a tiny ring on the chain . I did find it but it reminded me to get a chain with a magnetic fastener . When I saw your post I saw someone with a similar problem .
