I've started a proboards forum thread. If we're going to use it (how do we spread the word?) I would definitely do what Helebore said about the email address because as admin I think I would be able to see it. I would hate to make you feel uneasy.

No fee as it's paid for by adverts so I guess we have to think whether we want adverts on our page.

Anyway, it's there. It's set up, basic and accessible with just a click of a link in our bookmarks. Just let me know if you want the address to have a look and then we can decide if it's an appropriate back up for us to use.

PS, please can this always be our home. I think with this kind of thing it risks killing the thread. Whatever we decide can we agree to it just use it when we have no place to go?

fuddle you're not being a party pooper; you absolutely must only do what you are comfortable with - that's the whole point of the exercise.

Just as an aside, there's an online email service called mail dot com (use a . instead of dot of course) which offers free email addresses - you can even choose an apposite domain name if you wish; they have about 200 to choose from!

I have my email with them since I didn't want a $ky address; but the thing is, you're not restricted to one email address, so if anyone wanted to set up an email address just for Fence business, that's perhaps an option. A bit like gmail, but without the G00gle data-mining.

I hate to be a party pooper but I'm not alone in living alone. I occasionally tell DS something someone has said, or monna's Thought for today. He does know the name of the tread and he does use MSE himself but I don't think he would think to let you know when I die. We singles are likely to be the break in the chain.


I do think you are all being a bit pessimistic about losing the thread. I actually missed it going down so it must have been either Friday when I went to Wythenshawe or Monday when I went for my scan.

It does seem to have set the cat among the pigeons doesn't it.

nm I just don't think you can take the prepper out of some of us. I do see what you mean though but there's been times recently where I've not felt like joining in and then there's times (mostly) where it's like my right arm and I'd be lost checking in. It might be overkill but...

Let's hope the thread continues for a very long time to come and that MSE Old Style has enough relevance to continue for a very long time too. I think we're all only talking contingency plans should there ever be a time when the Old Style Boards aren't here. Until that day we'll just all lean on the fence with our preferred beverage and hopefully a custard cream or three and carry on nattering in the sunshine, CHEERS M'DEARS! xxx.

The other thing about the contact details/contingency plans is that if anyone just vanishes someone will be able to check on them and see if they're ok....if they want to be checked on that is.

Yes, this thread is definitely Home As I said recently, the people who post on the Nice People thread also have a board on Proboards which a member set up, but it's not used very often, mostly when someone wants advice about a personal situation, or to share a picture the person doesn't want the world and his wife to be able to see. So I'd be happy to use the one fuddle has kindly set up if it came to it, but I hope all will be ok here for a long time to come.

nursemaggie Have you thought of making a list of people your DS needs to tell when the time comes (which let's hope won't be for a very long time!), and putting us on it, including instructions on how to log in in your name (iyswim)?
