Yep Mrs LW I agree, that is how it should be I think, to contact other if someone wants the others details, then we can say yay or nay, sort of safeguarding us all. (I think I'm making sense)

I'm with MrsLW - we could each hold contact details for just a few Fencers, so everyone knows who has that info and who would contact them in the event of MSE Armageddon, and if anyone else wants them the holder is gatekeeper & contacts that person to check if info can be shared. That way nobody has the worry of being contacted by anyone unexpected. Do we need a master list drawn up & shared by all as to who has whose contact info (but NOT what those details are)?

That sounds a good idea Floss. Though I should say I wasn't, personally, thinking of asking anyone for their email address or whatever, just volunteering mine to those I'm sure I could trust. Then it would be up to them whether they chose to tell me theirs or not, and I wouldn't be offended if they chose not to :)

Welcome tinydancer - well done for plucking up courage to join us. I still remember how nervous I was when I made my very first post. if i recall correctly, I was asking about how long to cook jacket potatoes in the microwave!
And nice to "hear" from you, Lilli/Cocketts, Helebore and cbsexec.

Reminds me, I wonder how Chickens/Sheila is? She hasn't posted for ages, so I hope she's all right. I expect all those animals keep her busy!

I'm afraid I've been burned before with getting to know a poster in real life and regretted sharing my phone number and where I lived. I can't put myself in that position again so I won't be joining in with passing email addresses etc. Sorry for being a party pooper and not being very helpful but lesson learned for me there.

I'll go look at free forums see what I can find.

Proboards looks like it's working today. I've used that before.

Oh and I have no problem sharing my email address.

I wonder if, if people are happy to share email addresses, that maybe they should set one up that is only used for this activity, rather than give out their personal email? It may possibly mean logging into periodically so it appears to be in use? For example mine could be Helebore@whateverwhatever? Or a closed faceache page, I was in a closed group and people had to be 'added' by the administrators of said group, although I am aware some may not want fb. Also, unless you did belong to group you couldn't read anything.

  • Perhaps we could say that any one person is the holder of maybe 5 names but that after a request has been made for contact the only thing they have to do is pass on the request and the person whose details have been asked for either pass them or not as they decide. That way there would be no come back for the person holding the names. Does that make sense? I think it does???

Fuddle you already have your contact person in Mrs LW, and you have no obligation to share info with anyone else. This is just a Fence safety net for when MSE goes under, so we can keep in contact if we wish...

  • I'll always pass on a message to FUDDLE and that way she doesn't need to share details with anyone else, that should solve the problem yes?

The pro boards that Panda has recommended also looks interesting! Food for thought...
