I've been a fan of Joyce Grenfell since I was small and one of my teachers played us one of Joyce's monologues. To my eternal joy the HT's dad chose George as the HT's name. "George, don't do that", and I can say it for real :rotfl:
I'm just having a 5 minute tea break from the garden. The front is done and tidy, I was out in the back all day yesterday and will be today until about tea time if the weather guess is correct. I need to re pot my seedlings too. I found a spider in the shed that was so big I thought twice about picking it up. The cats are very kindly checking in there in case there are any more.
Take care all of you0 -
Ah WB Yates I am related to him through my Irish Great Grandmother.0

Afternoon all
After yesterday's crawling under the 'van, I now have a stiff shoulder too. Will I ever learn that I'm too old for such things. I was elected for that job as my eyes are much closer to the ground than DH's :rotfl:.
So today I shall take it easy and try not to move from the sofa. DH said that he will nail me to it if I don't comply. I think that would classed as cruelty . If he has a nap I may try to escape just to tidy up a few things, nothing strenuous you understand. Anyone good at escape plans ?
Hope everyone has a good day.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -

Lyn, I live on a 'DoE' route - I've re-directed three 'lost' groups already today!!!

Just wondering what the various smartphones/tablets/other things with predictive text will make of my name.....
Does anyone remember Slim Dusty? (There's a link there - my current canine guest is named Dusty)
It's lonesome away from your kindred and all
By the campfire at night, when the wild dingoes call.
But there's nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear
Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer.
Ooh - I just found it on YooToob!:T

Well done you LILLIBET, she doesn't run the scheme any longer but always seems to have to stand in for these expedition camps at the last minute. I know she enjoys the walking, the overnight supervision of sometimes rather silly and thoughtless teenagers slightly less so!0

Also great fun is Donnalou Stevens singing 'The Older Ladies Anthem' on youtube

And a modern one - Victoria Wood's ' Let's do It'Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Oh, yes, I love that ditty. She was an amazing observer of people.
"Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy. (W.B. Yeats)"
Monna your THOUGHT FOR TODAY made me howl with laughter. It is my FIL to a T!!! His grandparents were Irish immigrants and he considers himself Irish. He always looks on the bleak side of life. It is a shame really.
Well today has been a mad round of phonecalls that resulted in me acting as a travel agent for various family members and for us two. Our friends in the Caribbean have invited us back and the lovely Canadian couple we met over there want to coincide our visits. We want to visit another island while we are in the area so ...... I did lots of research, 'cashed in' our loyalty points, rang the airline and managed to book return flights for two for a total of £450! Then I booked a hotel for a week on the other island and inter-island flights too. Have blown the annual holiday budget but that's why we keep working
As if that wasn't enough my mum wanted me to book her 2 flights (domestic ones this time), and a hotel. Oh, and buy her membership of the Scottish National Trust.
I bet the credit card company is doing an investigation as we speak :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
In between all this madness I managed to tidy up (needed doing!), go into the garden and read in the sunshine, and prep some fresh fruit salad for DH who had been working in the heat for 6 hours solid (apparently his clients were very pleased with the work, which is great to hear).
Tomorrow we are off out for brunch and a walk round a country estate, hoping to see the magnolias and cherry blossom in all their glory.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0
