Oh Softstuff your post did make me laugh . I was in many an Irish club over the years as my grandparents were from Ireland . You've reminded me of some of the " turns " we witnessed over the years . A few pints of Guiness and the sky was the limit . We used to have make up running down out faces I dread to think what we looked like .

One of my uncles ( by marriage ) played the spoons . There was always a huge family do on New Years Eve and we were subjected to hours of his entertainment as eyes glazed over and the fiddle players willed him to drop in his tracks so the fun could begin .

Monica :D did you manage a nap earlier ? I've been propping the eyelids up for the last few hours . I still think you should be Monica . I really wanted to be hippy ,dizzy Phoebe .BTW You had the presence of mind to start a thread last night so less of the hand wringing . Also thanks to Nargle for posting on the missing threads thread . Also to those fencers who dropped in on last nights late shift and fuds and her tablet . We should all sleep well tonight .

Pollution fuds ? Maybe that tablet isn't so funny after all . Good job I know you or I'd be mortally offended :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Do you remember me saying a while back Mr PS would sneak bought plants in ? I bet he has . Meanwhile enjoy the peace while he's away. I wouldn't like to be holidaying near him .

Nannywindow what the heck are you up to crawling under the caravan ? I know we're all a bit batty here but that is extreme .
The plastering wont have helped your breathing .lets hope all is finished on time and you can get back to normality . I had both a full central heating system installed along with double glazing a the same time some years ago and I still shudder at the memory . I used to wish I could have one morning I didn't have to leap out of bed at the crack of dawn and be ready to face the hordes .

Well a short time ago my downstairs lights went out . Lamps and sockets are ok but main downstairs lights not working upstairs are fine . Tomorrow I'll need to pull out the heavy sofa to access the fuse box and see what's happened . This is why the lists grow longer sort one thing and a couple more things occur .
I shall say good night .

I can't sleep but now I have learned something new about shallots. Thank you Fuddle. I love my garden but have to do tiny amounts very carefully these days, shallots in a raised bed are going on the list. :)

    Welcome Emptynester

After my sleepless nights think about mother we went to visit her yesterday, don't know why we both. For the second visit she has decided she's not talking to me. Have no idea why. So after several attempts at conversation I asked shall we go ... nod yes, would you like us to come back tomorrow... shakes head no. At which point DH asks " are you sure she's your mum", why I asked, "because you're nice"

May try and get into the garden today and do a few jobs, but it was too hot yesterday, well that's my excuse :D.
Fuddle love hearing about your lottie.

Gosh! Aren't we all just back with a vengeance? Where do I begin?

I think, Softstuff, that your story about the Irishman was the funniest ever. I speak with some experience. My DS2, who you may remember is adopted, although having been mine heart and soul since he was 6 weeks old, (46 next week) is genetically 100% Irish. And it shows. Always cheerful, do anything for anybody, totally unreliable, likes a drink or three, has a million friends and a million funny stories and everyone loves him. They wonder where Pickle gets it from.

Fuddle, you are going to give Mr P.S. a run for his money. I agree about onions, I never found them worth the space they took up and was quite content to buy them. My dad was horrified, he never bought a vegetable until he was 95 and couldn't physically garden any longer. However his kitchen garden was a sight for sore eyes, my DB and I used to call it 'Steptoe's Garden'. Nothing was ever tidied up, every cloche, tunnel, prop or cover was cobbled together with 'recycled' materials, old net curtains shrouded and protected tender seedlings, rusting corrugated iron kept the heat in various compost heaps..........it was mayhem. Yet he produced show-worthy fruit and veg in vast quantities all the year round.

I've warned you before about letting me loose on nostalgia!

Polly, easy duckie, just put your electricians hat on and get those lights working.

Nan, whatever are you doing under the caravan? No, don't answer that. Try to have a few peaceful moments in your stressed out day.

Empty, this is the beginning of your new life. That's so exciting. Scary but so, so worthwhile. We are all here to hold your hand and keep you company. You won't be alone however much you may want us to push off and play somewhere else occasionally.

Now I'm going to find some breakfast. As fuddle said, typing with one finger on a phone or tablet is so slow that by the time you have finished a post and clicked on it, several other people have posted in between.
    Never mind.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy. (W.B. Yeats)

you see how hard I work to link the Thought to the post!

I grow shallots some years but gave up with onions.
I need to mind that we now have a Monica and a Pollution ;)
I've got skylarks singing their wee hearts out, and terrific Battle of Britain fights between buzzards and crows, great to watch but you get a crick in the neck. Neighbours who run sheep are saying there's a lot of dead deer on the hills this year, starved with the bad weather.
The RV has been helping me sort up the garden, it's gone from being a bomb site to being a nice garden in only 3 days. Which is good because this is the last good day of weather.

Brilliant Mar. It had potential but just needed a bit of the Mar touch and some sun to take away the bleak hue. I pleased you're pleased. :D

Mar you appear normal to Sony technology. You don't need a new name.
  • A lovely day here, He Who Knows is out walking Cookie and I've just tidied all the house and got the final bits of prep done for the Pickles and their mum to come tomorrow for a few days. Hopefully we'll get to the Safari Park on Monday and swimming on Tuesday but the Safari Park will be weather dependent so I'm hoping for a dry day.

Couldn't keep my eyes open last night and went to bed at 7.30 and slept until 7.15 this morning, unheard of but very much needed. Unfortunately I managed not to see Gloucester win their rugby match over Newcastle Falcons which would have been a cracker, we've got it recorded but it's never the same watching when you know the final score. Busy day today catching up on ironing and shopping for the families stay and also doing some cooking ahead of their arriving. Older DD is out on a Bronze D of E camp over the weekend with 56 youngsters so I hope the weather is at least dry for them, hiking with wet tents and damp clothes is not a nice experience.

Looking forward to being back to our normal routine later in the week and we're considering taking the house off the market as it's totally dead here at the moment and running with the house ready for viewings is beginning to be a bit of a chore, we'll see but I'm going to enjoy the sunshine today no matter what!
