Being of 100% Irish extraction, I think the sense of tragedy comes from an unrivalled ability to hold a grudge
Not that I'm like that of course not. One day I will forgive the girl who made my DD unhappy when they were 6It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Well LameWolf you have a choice of 3. LakeWood, LamEst or LamKin. What is your pleasure madam?
We have a tremendous thunderstorm going on overhead as I type. Millie was asleep on the floor beside me when we had one deafening thunderclap that rattled the Windows, shook the house and set all the car alarms going. She levitated. There's no other way of putting it. She went up sideways, turned in the air and came down to land on her feet looking very puzzled. It took a lot of soothing talk, hugs and half a biscuit to restore her.
Are you setting up as a Travel Agent MMF? Enjoy your holidays. Life is one long holiday when you retire, (:rotfl::rotfl::T:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:) so make the most of your time now.
The storm is still raging, it is spectacular over the sea but although the thunder is rumbling we've not had any more ear-splitting claps. Millie wants to go out and fight it, but I've said very firmly that its bedtime. For me too, so goodnight all.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Pah! A likely tale! If you were 100% non extracted Irish you'd know the only purpose of a grave is for carrying grudges to!0 -
"Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy. (W.B. Yeats)"
Monna your THOUGHT FOR TODAY made me howl with laughter. It is my FIL to a T!!! His grandparents were Irish immigrants and he considers himself Irish. He always looks on the bleak side of life. It is a shame really.
.
And my mother in law who, as far as I know, is not Irish, but can pour a bucket of ice cold water over any happy event. A few years ago there were lots of us on a canal boat holiday. OHs cousin (who wasn't there, I hasten to add) had terminal cancer, which is sad but, during one moment where we were all laughing at something, MIL piped up "isn't it a shame that we are all having a nice time, when Keith is going to die"......
Busy busy here, research is taking over my life but is going ok. Made the most of the weather yesterday with a day in the garden, weeding, digging, mowing and barbecuing. Fancy being outside until 9.15 in April :T
Today has to be inside which has been rather neglected in recent weeks...
Monna and Softstuff, I will join you in the 5:2. It was the only thing that worked a few years ago but some pounds have crept on again (not sure how many as I am too scared to weigh myself).. I am going to do Tuesday and Thursday this week...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Agree with you there maryb, I'm another (well 50% Irish) and I never forget a bad turn. RV is the same and boy does his family enjoy their feuds
We didn't have any thunderstorms we just had torrential rain during the night, very cool and grey this morning. Nothing to beat a wet Scottish Sunday for wrist-slitting potential...0 -
No Irish in me at all but Oh Boy can I also carry a grudge and keep it simmering Oh YES!!! I wonder if it's a Scandinavian thing too?
Fantastic storm last night, it seems to have been a huge one in terms of the area looking at the weather this morning there were pictures of the lightning as far up as Worcestershire, hopefully now the weather will cool a little and the growing season can begin. I got the first picking of rhubarb from the allotment yesterday and it made me really happy to have fresh picked produce to cook with so I made a big rhubarb and ginger crumble and a slow cooker full of rhubarb compote to have with skyr for breakfasts for a few days, we have peas and beans planted in the polytunnel too and looking good!0 -
We had lots of rain but if there was thunder I slept through it. It's bright and sunny here.
My dad, ex mil, late mil, FIL were Irish so I'm surrounded.
I need to check my car soon to see what damage has been done this time! It's getting tedious now.
We spent most of yesterday gongoozling, lots of hire boats struggling as they didn't know what to do.
My favourite was the wine drinking buffoons on their own boat, waiting for the lock to fill even though they'd dropped the paddles thus stopping the water flow. Normally we'd go and help but they were pished and arrogant so we just stood and laughed at them. It took them 40 minutes to lock through instead of 15.
I shall walk again today 30 minutes or so along the towpath.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
I'm back! We got home at about 3 a.m. and my brain isn't back in working order yet, but I will start catching up.
The hotel we stayed at was lovely, and there were CATSxx

Growls of thunder and a fab lightening display last night. DH gone down to the club to do some titivating to the boat. Put her on he pontoon on Friday and checked mainsail and put the new sail cover on I'd made. DS1 was very impressed! He and I have got bar duty this afternoon and we'll put her back on her mooring when we've finished. We're travelling up to Norfolk tomorrow to scatter my aunt's ashes on the broads on Tuesday (her birthday). Thinking of getting some flowers to scatter for her too. Never done something like this before so suggestions welcome.
Busy week as on Wednesday we're off to London to see the Strictly Ballroom show - Christmas pressie from DS2 and DiL.
Chuckling at your buffoons Hester - I find boaty people always willing to help those who help themselves - but you can't help arrogant stupidity!
Regarding grudges DH can remember every perceived slight but TBH I can't be arrised. It doesn't change anything and just eats away at you and does nothing to the perpetrator. I just either avoid them or delete them from my life........but sometimes it takes a whileSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
