At the sailing club tonight for NY. We've booked a band and everyone will bring something to eat. It's lovely because we all know each other, plenty of seating and I get the chance to wear a frock for once (most of us ladies feel the same!) We won't stay much after midnight though.
Well done on selling your old engine Hester - every little helps!!!
My job for today is to shorten a pair of trousers for DGD to wear to her party tonight! She's about 5'4" and hasn't inherited my long legs! Her trousers were even too long for me so I made a note of where she bought them.
My best wishes to everyone for a happy, healthy and peaceful 2018.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I really dislike xmas but love hogmanay and new year
Is my fav day of the whole year. A nice exciting new year to scribble all over, adventures might be waiting, chances there to be taken, blahblah. Never actually happens but one year it might! I'll be sat with the RV, the cat, the knitting, and a wee bottle. Might end up interesting knitting :rotfl:
Storm Dylan seems to be on top of my hoose so I might yet end up spending hogmany in a B&B if the roof goes0 -

I had a sudden spurt of energy and since I posted the above I have washed up, made my bed, shaken out the rugs, hoovered, dusted, swilled down the bathroom and mopped
Admittedly it really was a very quick once over and this place is only small ..but how's that for someone who has only had about 4 hours sleep'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Afternoon all,
Karcher, you put me to shame.
I've washed the sheets and will make the bed in a bit. I Should dust upstairs and clean the bathroom, but might not do all of that. We've also been for a long walk looking at houses to get a sense of what is where then stopped in Tesco for some bits and had a bit of lunch there. The crowds were awful and everyone seems quite ratty. We went to the gym and did a few errands in the car yesterday and it was the same then.
After braving Tesco We made it home via the footpath 4 hours later and may settle down with books for a quiet afternoon. We'll have some of whatever tipple we have in and a nice dinner tonight. I think OH is having burgers and I'm having a baked camembert, bread and salad. Yes, yes I am looking forward to this ridiculous meal. We'll be tucked up early I'm sure with earplugs in.
I don't have strong feelings about New Years. Some years we've been out. A couple of years running I had chest infections. We aren't big crowd types so when we do go out it is usually round a friend's house. We tend to avoid pubs etc. on 'big' nights.
In the states we always had to have cabbage and black eyed beans to symbolize riches on New Years day (green dollars and black eyed cents). I'm not partial to either so have abandoned that tradition with relish. I was always told that whatever you do on NYD was what you'd do for the year so I always try to make it nice. Tomorrow will likely involve a book, maybe some sewing/knitting and definitely a walk looking at houses.
Some years I make resolutions, so years not, but I tend to stick to them if I do. I mainly try to pick one new habit I want to begin. This year's contenders might be use our NT membership at least once per month, get back into my thrice weekly gym habit (the new work schedule has reduced me to once or twice a week) or to walk twice, rather than once, per week. Some of these might be ambitious during term time. I try not to make resolutions for things that will be too stressful to keep as I tend to think we work pretty hard at the important stuff.0 -
Hi Karcher
Well I woke up this morning, surveyed the gifts my clients and some rellies gave me and then looked at DH's pile and wondered whether to have a tombola. We have dozens of bottles of booze of every variety! We barely drink alcohol.
Ah well. I am sure I can redistribute the bottles over the next few months.
Oh, LBM - I need to spread the word that we have become teatotal before next xmas :rotfl:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
We just ate the trifle that was definitely NOT GOING TO BE TOUCHED before tomorrow.
So that will be two xmas day trifles and now two NY day trifles. We have no willpower0 -
We have no willpower where trifle is concerned either
Some years ago Asda used to sell a "Trifle of the Month". One month it was Mandarin & Banana. We bought one, and it was so nice that we ate the whole thing between the two of us in one day. We wished afterwards that we hadn't, but boy it was yummy at the time
