  • Morning all,

Monna, since my parents left it's remarkably ok. I'm fairly emotionally ruthless - so have almost drawn a line and am moving on (and dealing with one day at a time). I really appreciate how lucky I am in some ways, my kids are older and coping, I have a good job and there will be enough for a small house for me as well as somewhere for dh, he and I are probably speaking more than recently and I have the most amazing support network including here. I keep going back to WonderCollie's words.

Maybe the shock will hit me later but I've had since October to deal with that and coming on here there are people in such worse circumstances.

I'm looking forward to 2018 in a lot of ways - and even though I'll have to tighten the belt a bit/ lot, I am a confirmed OSer with a hankering for a simpler life (will be posting on that thread) and am slowly realising I can make my new life into whatever I want, with my own values.

On a lighter note - I think we are going ten pin bowling today and getting lots of food ready for tomorrow - nsdh bought me the Persiana cookbook for Christmas and he and dsis and I are going to make stuff from that.

Morning all - another one here who's been awake since 5am! I might take a nanna nap later ;)
Out to some friends today - they usually have open house on New year's Day and the DH makes a mean curry but this year they have other plans so have moved it. Really looking forward to seeing a lot of my sailing buddies there too. We have an American supper at the club tomorrow to welcome in the new year and clear the leftovers!
Monna - batten down the hatches love - very high winds forecast again for tonight.
I have managed to clear the laundry basket over the last few days - now DH has a pile of ironing - shall I send him over Monna? Just in case he's getting bored with watching Wheeler Dealers lol
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

I must be the only one who slept in till gone 8. I'm going to struggle to get up for the paid stuff next week though I'm usually at my best in the mornings and rubbish in the evenings. Almost always in bed by 10.

Love today's thought. Made me chuckle.

Just going to the Co-Op today and walking the dogs.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • Monna I’ll join the dormouse class. My DH got me one of those wooden plaques for our bedroom door many years ago. It’s the dormouse in the teapot from Alice in Wonderland. Our bedroom is officially ‘the teapot’

    My record is 25hrs straight.

I woke at 06.40, went to the loo, fell asleep again and woke when the postman knocked at 09.30 :D

I offered the "morning robin" some crumbled mince pie and it seemed very happy with that, so they can have some more later.

I woke up around eight and had a browse on the laptop before getting up at ten to see to youngest dd. She has now gone off with a friend and another friend is popping by to collect something.

A grocery delivery is due around three, dishwasher is in action, washing machine is loaded and I need to go upstairs and change the beds later.

Family are coming over tomorrow for lunch so planning on cooking enchiladas but need to get a couple of ingredients from local small shop later.

I have been trying to check my bank account online for over a day now with no luck yet the main site says there are no problems online

VJsmum, its peculiar, isn't it, this sort of waiting time before the funeral? You seem to be keeping yourself busy so perhaps it is helping you to cope.

Thank you - it is a strange time but I am ready for the funeral now. I didn't want it too soon (just as well), as I didn't want him 'packed off', but this has been a long time. It is time to say goodbye now.. i am busy marking as I have a deadline and have every day organised up to the funeral now...

I hate new year too - all that forced jollity and you wake up and nothing's changed. Nothing wrong with hope though, I guess.

hope you got off it first.... :rotfl:

I don't usually sleep too badly but, understandably, not done so well of late. Last night I was asleep at 9.30 and woke properly at 7, i think I needed that. Had a short time awake in the night as OH was snoring SO LOUDLY - but i decamped to the spare room after getting really cross with him. To no avail as he didn't stir...

we have a house guest for a couple of nights so the spare room won't be available :(
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Elona, could your daughter change the beds & shuffle them round? You should allow her to help with chores when she stays with you xx
