Nursemaggie: What sort of crummy HA is this? How do they expect anyone to live in such a tiny space? And holes in the walls? Really? It sounds as though your kitchen space will be worse than Hesters.

Speaking of whom, what an interesting life you are leading. Micro- theatre in a canalside pub. Not something the rest of us have experienced. Enjoy your holiday, when you go back to work it will be entirely different, you will be demob happy. Your only problem will be the jealousy of colleagues who are stuck there for the duration.

Burtha you have been on my mind ever since I read your post yesterday. It brought back to me all the desperation I felt 2 years ago. It probably did the same for everyone here who has suffered in the same way. With all the other problems in your life you must be in overload now. Nothing we say can make it any better but if I could, I would sit and cry with you. Please know that candles are being lit, prayers sent heavenwards and tons of loving thoughts are coming your way.

    Good morning fencers .
Hester It's pouring down here this morning so I hope the weather is better for you and you all enjoy the boat trip . I always read your blog first and as a number of the ones I read are on your sidebar i can access them easily . I often wonder what the combination of you and John Gray under the same roof would be like . You did make me laugh about the locks .

NM I didn't realise you'd lost us . I read at some point that the family were coming over for visits so assumed you were out and about . Glad you're back .
It sounds totally ridiculous not to make good the holes after removing the heaters . It must devalue the property which generally most landlords don't want . It sounds a very odd way of doing things . I dread to think how you'll manage losing more of the small amount of storage you have at the moment .
I've been wondering how it will be when they start work on the installation . It was quite disruptive here and I'm not short of space compared to you .
I don't know what to advise regarding your son and the job offers and the access course . Is his eventual uni course concentrated on looking to use his language skills in a career?
I don't know whether the bakery is a small business or a large one .
Aldi are expanding so rapidly they could be a good choice if they offered him the job .
I'm not sure of his age but has he considered deferring the access course for a while ? Depending on how he plans to use those language skills and how easy it is to get work in that field it could be worth him doing a bit of thinking . Whatever he decides I wish him good luck .
The vibes are always with you .:) I hope you're keeping well and will be sending strength and patience during the workmen phase .
    Take care

I crossposted Monna I imagine we all have Burthain our thoughts and I hope that somehow she managed to close her eyes and get some sleep since posting . It's restorative , restful sleep but it does take you out of the situation briefly .
You have things to sort Burtha . The bad thing in these events is you have to try to think straight when you're in a state of shock .
I think you're in the NE . There seem a fair number of CABs there . It's also worth searching for a solicitor who will voluntarily give initial advice at no cost . Since the withdrawal of legal aid in many legal issues a number of solicitors set aside some of their working hours to fill the gap for those who need some help . They will give you an overview but can't do the latter work without charge . The CAB should have a list of those in the scheme .
Remember you have been the strong one holding up the family now it's their turn . Don't refuse help or support when offered and know we are here for whatever reason .
    Take care

One day I will remember to read through my posts before sending !
It is not restful sleep was in my head but didn't make it to the keyboard .
If I was to say with blushing cheeks this old styler went to the cupboard on Monday night and discovered I'd run out of tea  you may find this understandable . I never run out of tea , it's what keeps me semi functional . I wasn't able to go out yesterday and probably not today so am feeling the lack of my brews .
I'm not really a coffee drinker . I don't mind the odd weak cappucchino but I have always been a tea girl . The Yorkshire tea ad has been playing in my head .
Being old style I picked some mint and tried both cold and hot but it just isn't the same although I normally enjoy it . I've drunk all my proper ginger beer and dandelion and burdock now so think I'm entering withdrawal mode .
People laugh at my boxes of tea and other stocks and I can't believe I've taken my eye off the ball due to real life being very full on .
Someone smack my wrist with a large wooden spoon .

Monna Have you heard any more yet re the interested buyer ? I imagine it's lovely to at least have your own space back . Have you managed to release any of your things from their boxes or are they remaining packed until your eventual move .
Hoping something happens soon if only to save me organising the Monna wants a bungalow event . Without my trusty brew that
could be a challenge too far .
Still pouring down here but the plants are loving it .

Oh Polly, are the withdrawal symptoms too bad? There's no substitute is there?

Oh yes, I'm loving having my own space. When I go into a room it's just they way I left it! it's the first time in my life that has happened. It's a very strange feeling. Also I can have a shower or do something in the kitchen without first having to work out what everyone else is doing and if the coast is clear. Lovely.

I think the original would-be buyers are still interested but nothing definite has happened yet. My 'stuff' is still boxed up in my friend's garage. Well, I say garage because they park their car in front of it, but it's actually a converted stable. Quite safe and dry although the door has to be propped open in the spring and everything covered because the swallows nest in there.
it's funny because although I've missed things that are packed up, I've managed reasonably well without them.
Still, .it will be wonderful to be reunited with my treasures and to feel grounded once more. I've not bothered to bring them here as its just an extra move.
I would like to be settled before the winter sets in, but if not Im OK, if financially wobbling on the edge. Could be a lot worse.

Well, the rain is back again so it looks as if the 5 mile run is off. Drat! I'll have to make another mug of tea (sorry) and settle down to mindless TV and knitting. It's a hard life.

Pollyana no tea ! I remember when I was a little girl, my grandmother opening her sideboard and it was packed with bags and bags of sugar, umpteen packets of loose tea and not much else. If I remember correctly it was Brooke Bond Dividend. One's life is empty without tea :rotfl:
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
  • You lot would have been soooooo proud of me last night, Maisies mum picked me up in the car so we could drive to a lovely coastal walk about 3 miles away and we set off in beautiful sunshine and a nice little breeze, blue sky, farmer harrowing the field next to us and walked to the beach, lovely! Maisie had a lovely time splashing about in the fresh water pond on the seashore and we walked on and the footpath narrowed and it had rained copiously the day before and there were several stretches of wall to wall puddle with much mud round the sides and no passing places... Well we did OK until we got the next to last one, Maisies mum had trainers on and could get some grip on the edges of the puddle, sadly I did not! and in trying to get round in my trekking sandals got tangled up in a blackberry bush and put a foot right into the muddiest bit of the whole squishy mess, about 6" deep so in true Fencers tradition I rolled up my trouser leg on that side and walked squelchily back to the car. Sadly I saw no one else sporting the trouser signature of the Garden Fence so I can only assume you all had more sense than me and a much better sense of balance!
