MMF007 Sorry to hear about your Dad, sounds like he is in the right place for now xx
Youngest DS passed his driving test today - he is happier than a happy thing... he had saved like a mad man to buy a car, but didn’t want to get one till he had passed - guess what we are doing over the next week or so :rotfl:
Taking him to the ‘North Island’ for lunch and a spot of shopping tomorrowNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Oh, well done Islandmaid's DS (Master Islandmaid didn't sound right
)
MMF Glad your Dad seems to be doing as well as can probably be expected, Enjoy the tree-trimming xx
Oh nursemaggie, It would be great if your SIL could get a job thereBest wishes to him.

Oh Islandmaid, well done to your DS. Give him the lecture about not getting over-confidant and not letting his friends egg him on when driving!
NM, SIL getting a job locally to you would be the icing on the new home cake! My fingers will be crossed again!
Right, have baked trial batch of cinnamon biscuits. DH is hovering nearby, waiting to taste test:rotfl:.
My friend rang as I was mixing ingredients, DH fielded the call and relayed a message. Friend said to tell me that they sell biscuits in the supermarket nowadays, did I know :rotfl:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
MMF007, that reminds me of my first meeting with one of my DILs. Apropos of something, my DS explained to her that I made all our bread. I will never forget the look of sheer incredulity on her face as she said, "Why?"
The Bakewell Tarts went down well yesterday. When we had served everyone, the helpers explained to me that there really wasn't enough left to offer second helpings, as they busily divi-ed the leftovers to take home.
The next Lunch Club will be in 2 weeks time and will be the Christmas Lunch. My ontribution will be mince pies, stuffing and bread sauce. As we are catering for 70 I think I'd better start cooking and freezing soon.
Added to editing the book and finding a bungalow to move into, the next few weeks are going to be full on.
Islandmaid, now you stop have to chauffeur him around and start chewing your fingernails waiting for him t get home safely.
When I passed my driving test my instructor gave me 2 invaluable pieces of advice.
"Now you 're in charge of a lethal weapon." and "Always drive as if everyone else on the road is a suicidal maniac."
Words that I have never forgotten.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Just after my DS had passed his test and got his first car he went for quite a long drive which included the motorway (he had had a couple of practice sessions of motorway driving with his instructor after he'd passed his test.). It became very foggy and I was  "My baby is on the motorway in thick fog!"
He came home safe and sound, and being only 18 he was astonished that I'd been worried!0 -
DS has been ‘read his fortune’ in relation to driving.... part of me is sad as being used as a taxi is one of the last things he ‘needed’ me for - daft I know, but my baby is all grown up now
He goes away for 5 days tomorrow visiting friends (by train) so we have agreed to g9 full on car hunting on his return - we will browse on his behalf this weekend
Was blowing a hoolie last night, took me ages to get off to sleep, but no visible damage this morning - hope everyone else is safe and sound xxNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Ivy - my younger DS passed his test and took my car out on a Friday to chauffeur his mates. Cue absolute cloudburst on his way home & he told be that the rain was so heavy the windscreen wipers couldn't cope he said he was scared so he pulled over into a layby until the rain abated - did I breathe a sigh of relief that he'd been so sensible. Did say to him that once you pass your driving test you then learn to drive!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

When DD passed her test we were on our way to my mothers and on the A1, not on a stretch of A 1 M when my husband said to DD there is a L!ttle Chef just up here pull into it. despite it not being Motorway was a fast stretch of road. He had to grab the steering wheel to stop her driving into a wall. He did it to show her how much you have to slow down to come off a motorway.
She certainly learned how much space you need to slow down from a fast road.0 -
Islandmaid, the wind was pretty forceful here too, lots of things scattered about the garden but no damage.
Had unwelcome news 5 minutes ago. My buyer has had to pull out, so it's back to square one. The agent who rang to tell me was nearly in tears herself, in fact she was more upset than I was. Never mind, it wasn't meant to be and at least I'd not seen anything I wanted, so no disappointment there.
Now I have to make a few phone calls and get on with some work.I believe that friends are quiet angels

NM - know exactly where you mean - DH has family in Lincolnshire and we regularly travel the A1 - its fast with a lot of heavy vehicles going north!
Your post crossed with mine Monna - Oh what a disappointment but as you say you'd not seen anything for yourself so hoping something better will be waiting. Big Hug xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
