burtha My grandson's fiancee would love the ones with skulls on :D xx

Lovely to see you Ginnyknit, but sorry to hear about the mice, so stressful! Glad they're all gone now!

mardatha I expect purple glittery DMs wouldn't remind you of pit boots?

I have a sore shoulder and upper arm. Dr google tells me it's probably tendinitis :( It's my left arm (I'm left-handed) and I usually lie on that side, sigh.

The DM chat reminds me of the first time I saw a pretty young girl wearing them. I was full of pity for such an attractive young lady to have the embarrassment of having to wear surgical boots. I learnt!

nursemaggie, everything crossed that the landlord recognises your trustworthiness. It's about time something good happened for you.

Ivyleaf. That sounds painful. It wouldn't be a frozen shoulder would it? If so you have my heartfelt sympathy.

It's Lunch Club tomorrow and so today will be spent in making Bakewell Tart for 50. It will be the cheap version, ground almonds replaced by semolina and almond essence.
The next Lunch Club will be in 2 weeks and it's the Christmas Lunch. I will begin the annual mince pie bonanza and if anyone can give me a foolproof method of preventing the mincemeat boiling over the pastry I will be forever grateful.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Monna I don't know if this actually works, but when I make fruit tarts I sprinkle a little bit of semolina in the pastry case before adding the fruit filling. It seems to absorb excess juices. Maybe it would work with mincemeat? Although, having said that I quite like the look of a bit of mincemeat on the pastry lid, shows it's home made. It's when it boils right over and you need an ice pick to get the pie out of the tin that it's a pain
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

thanks maryb, I'll give that a go. I make my own mincemeat which has no fat in it, but quite a bit of brandy. However, I will be buying the mincemeat for the church mincepies. I don't want to upset the good Methodists. It might upset the bad Methodists who enjoy my brandy soaked mincemeat, but they will have to live with it.

    OK. semolina it is then.

ivyleaf just in case it is a frozen shoulder try putting your arm through all of it's movements at the shoulder joint, gently several times a day. It will be painful but better than getting stuck with the completely frozen shoulder which can last a very long time.

If there is any tingling down your arm it could be a third thing, some people call them trapped nerve but it is really just pressure from a disc in your neck. It is also quite painful but does not last any where near as long as a frozen shoulder.

You need anti inflammatories for tendonitis. Don't buy branded ibuprofen is exactly the same as the branded one. Anything any stronger you will need a prescription. Ask your GP for the number and you can refer yourself to a physiotherapist at your local hospital. You will get one consultation giving you exercises to do. They will take you through the exercises and give you a list with pictures. Do them as often as they say.

Hope I don't sound too bossy, I am trying to make it last as short a time as possible. I hope it is not a frozen shoulder. Have you done anything repetitive over the last couple of weeks?

monna if you get a lot of mince meat running out you are being over generous with the mincemeat. just a tiny bit less and stick to the same spoon as teaspoons come in a lot of different sizes.

I think Maryb is right a little leakage is a sign the mince pies are homemade.

Had another CT scan again yesterday they are getting to be as routine as meals.

It was lovely and Christmassy in Manchester yesterday the Christmas Market is on. Anyone who is in the North West fancy meeting up and going round the Christmas Market?

I finally got something else for my SiL so must get the parcels sent off before we have to start packing. DS will not like me cadging a box off him but I don't have one big enough for Malta. DGS's playm*bile fire engine is in a big box. If it is like the ambulance it is twice the size it needs to be and I could put DD and SiLs parcels in the same box.

Thanks for the kind word re DS - like all mums, I just want my kids to be happy x

Re: DM’s love them, although I don’t wear them now, I do however have a much beloved pair of Magnums which I wear to work even though they are ‘not allowed’ - can’t beat a comfy boot ;)

I was back to work after 12 days off - Yukk... back now though, freezer dive this morning bought up some meat balls and a stray beef burger, so Meatball pasta for the men and Buger and salad for me.

I have done shopping list and meal plan for the week, trying to keep it as small as possible.

All this house talk has confirmed to me that I am more than happy where I am. I moved 20times in 25 years, but have been here 15 years this year and would be pleased to see out my days here.
I wish all you on the move the best and hope you find ‘home’ very soon with as few hiccups as possible x

Thank you monnagran and nursemaggie :A :A- I don't think it's frozen shoulder, because it's painful if I raise my arm to the side, but doesn't seem to be stiff. I bought some aspirins earlier and am going to try those, as ibuprofen can cause constipation. Yes, I buy generic ones :)

I ordered a good pair of boots to wear when we visit my DB and SIL in Germany in a couple of weeks; I ordered the same size as an old pair I have that's the same brand, but they arrived today and are a bit too snug :( I have hunted high and low for some that would be warm, light, waterproof, long-lasting, and easy to take off and put back on again at the airport, and these were the only ones that I thought would do. But they won't, as I had to fight my way into them!
I'll look in the local big sports emporium tomorrow in case they have anything that would do - that's about the only place I haven't tried. I wanted pull-on ones rather than with laces, but it's difficult because i have very big calves.

NM, nice idea to meet up in Manchester. Atm I think I am fully committed until xmas though. I had a few free days but DH has just told me I am helping him prune and tidy a relative's garden, plus I am organising and catering a small event for friends at a nearby Hall, not to mention the hm hampers I'm embroiled with! I'll get back to you if a window opens up, cos I can get a train up, there's a rail station only about 4 miles away from me.

Ivyleaf, you might like to google mandmdirect if you are needing some boots We've used them a lot over the years. They do all leisure wear at reduced prices (end of line or last season or less popular colours :rotfl:) and have plenty of boots. DH got some 'snowboots', waterproof pull on ones a while ago. Lovely and warm. Sorry, haven't looked on the website lately so don't know if those boots are still available.

Well my mum rang this evening to tell me that my dad had collapsed at the swimming baths and 3 paramedics and 2 doctors attended (the baths are very close to a small hospital and they must have been having a quiet day!). She told me all about calling out for help, the pool attendant dashing into changing room, medics cutting his vest off (!), the heartstart machine, cpr, not breathing, ambulance etc etc, before finally telling me he is still alive! He is now in ' the big hospital', being monitored. He has a weak heart but still pushes himself too hard. Sadly, due to early signs of dementia his logical reasoning is less nowadays, and telling him he is over doing it is just ignored. In addition, he has always been [STRIKE]pigheaded[/STRIKE] er, determined, shall we say. Anyway, he has been chatting to the staff, and probably to any passing stranger, but we are awaiting further tests.

By coincidence, this week one of my elderly clients asked me to take her swimming. I said no. She is very elderly and has had heart surgery and stents later and she has other health issues. I am not a strong swimmer and certainly not qualified to look after anyone in a pool. I shall tell her about my dad's little escapade when I next see her.

Right, off to bed, busy day tomorrow and will have to keep checking in on mum, too.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
