nannywindow said:Hi Polly, thanks very much for asking, we're still both bumbling along. RL here has been rather hectic lately and I haven't been posting much. Firstly, our DGC stayed over for a few days, after that we had our summer holidays and then we had the DGC staying again over the weekend. I'm trying to sort out my Dad too as we're off on holiday again on Sunday, sadly he seems to be getting a bit confused so I need to check his meds tomorrow. I order them to be delivered to him, but now he can't remember if he's received them, so I need to check the dates on the boxes.
Hope you and your DD are feeling better now too.
Right, I'm off to bed as I've been having trouble sleeping and I'm shattered tonight.
Take care and look after yourself.
Lots of love nan/ Amy xxI hope you enjoy your holiday Nan. Hopefully the weather will be knid, there's a real nip in the air here now and it's feeling much colder after the heatwave weather. Something in between would be ok but it's been two extremes. No idea what to suggest about your dad and the meds apart from checking the boxes as you plan. When my mum had to go to live with one of my sisters and her family she was in the early onset dementia stage. Sis would manage the meds handing her them one at a time and waiting until she'd swallowed them. She later discovered mum wasn't swallowing them but spittig them out when sis wasn't looking. There was a similar situation here years later with youngest. I had no idea why things went downhill for her mentally as well as physically when she went to senior school because she wouldn't say what was wrong. Superdoc tried talking to her but she wasn't talking.Twice there wss a paramedic kneeling on her bedroom floor trying to bring her round. That's when I discovered she was buying paracetamol on her way to and from school. Whai is now our Coop was a Kwik Save store then and she was able to buy 3 pkts pf paracetamol at a time in there. They got a tongue lashing from Superdoc and myself and we both reported the manager to head office. The store closed a few months later. From then on all her prescribed medication was kept locked away and I stood over her as she took all the meds. Unknown to me she wasn't swallowig them. The day I got the call from a teacher who'd taken her to hospital and listened to the horrible bullying attitude towards youngest from that teacher I knew dd would never be anywhere near that school again. In facr she would be home schooled.Over the years superdoc and I had to watch her carefully until many years later the fallout from the wrong mental health diagnosis and the 20 years fight for the one we knew she should have had was done. One amazing young counselor helped. It did worry me when she went to shield at her boyfriends terrified of the virus. She was very anxoius and had a few meltdowns but she remembered the counselling and the tools she'd been given to cope and never did anything stupid again. There was a time for a number of years when the pharmacy would sort her meds in to Dosette boxes.Nor sure if the NHS can bear the cost of that nowadays, Everything was dated when , how many to take etc. That may have helped your dad if he could remember to check. Our pharmacy isn't allowed to release the next meds order apart from a small buffer until the next meds are due. That helps prevent confusion over whether they are being taken or building up unused and is safer when a patient can't keep track. If your dads pharmacy still use Dossette boxes that could help. No extra boxes to confuse.Since the virus I was constantly sending youngest emails. Have you remembered this, that or the other appt? Checked your meds. Booked your jabs? It has worked she only forgot her bloods were due twice and that was quickly sorted.I've wittered on but I hope you both enjoy your break and get a chace to relax.pollyxx

I've just had a look at online news and the energy cap. A bit of mental arithmetic suggests a payment of £208 a month. No idea if that's for gas, electricity or both .Both my gas and electric bills are from one company but I've never had a bill near that amount.and they come as a joint bill.I hope Martin will have some clarity on the cap.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Just noticed Si-Clist has put a link explainingt the energy cap over on the current Preparing for Winter thread. 3 attempts to speak to a human being at my banks call centre so far so shall look at that link.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I've not seen post's from either of them on any of the boards I use to see them on.haven't heard from Mar for a little while but she had things going on at home and also struggles with her own and the RVs health heading to winter. She was ok though just tired.I last saw Monna wishing burtha well on her marriage and her Beatle.Mar is still knitting warm things and stocking up the cupboards. Pretty much like most of us. I picked up more tins and packets than I usually would the other day. handy if the lights do go out. Been there done that I joined Greenpeace in the 60s don't buy drinks or other things in plastic but right now I wsh I had the coal fire that warmed my 1st husband, myself a toddler and a newborn baby. heated the watsr, dried the washing and could cook on though I did have a gas cooker,Made the best toast ever over the fire on a toasting fork.I didn't like the conditions miners and in earlier years children were working in. often it was the only work available and there woudn't have been other work.Larry the cat showed Christmas Trees and roaring fires in NO10 in recent years. We're never going to see a level playing field the way things are.i think many posters are too busy trying to plan ahead to post much.I hope all is well with you.pollyx

afternoon all ,
it's raining cats and dogs here , hopefully it's better wherever you are .
got soaked yesterday moving stuff for youngest dd . Still at least 1 more load to do but it can wait till the end of next week . I haven't sorted ds out yet .mix up from the college / uni and although his place is offered its still not confirmed ...
numerous emails and calls and feel like we're getting nowhere still .
freshers week is the week after so they will both be in by then. ... somehow
interesting times regarding politics, its all just a big mess , fear it's going to get worse for a while yet .
wait and see , there is nothing we can do except prep and plan the best we can .

It's raining here too burtha. Luckily I didn't need to go out. There do seem to be a lot of mix ups lately. It's unfair your son who'd been offered a place still hasn't had it confirmed. Youngsters setting off on a big adventure away from home can do without the worry, I hope the confirmation comes through soon.I am fed up trying to get somewhere with telephone banking. It's always been fine until the panademic. They introduced a weird my voice is my password system with automatic voices . I went through security questions three times yesterday entering numbers, dob and other things via the phone buttons and each time the line cut.Supposed to contact live chat with the call centre to do the transfer from my current account to credit card account. but I suspect they've gone off on a coach trip because I'm getting nowhere. There really isn't much we can do except as you say prep and plan the best we can. Both you and I and many on the threads have known tough times. As Barry Manilow once sang We made it through the rain . We will again. We know how to do it unlike many who never had to get through tough times. We have The Knowledge and we'll cope.Take care burtha ,pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I hope your proper sit down teas went down well MrsCD.Yesterday I spent hours watching the news on BBC. I always knew TV companies and newspapers had archives but was stunned to see all the years of my life on the screen. After solving the where is my brother, mum and dad ,our prefab and why I am I sitting at a table and there are sandwishes, jellies and cakes but we're in the street there are no gardens or trees. The pandemic helped with that becauseI had thinking time and eventually my favourite cousin aked her much older sister who'd emigrated to Australia on a £10 passage remained there but knew all the family history.Ifinally worked out it was the day the queen was crowned and it was a street party with lots of flags. Finally worked out I was two and a half that day. There were lots of things I remembered Aberfan and other tragedies but I'd forgoetten the queen visiting this town a mumber of times and standing at the war memorial. A young naval officer had died in battle leaving a wife and young children behind.her Majesty would stand with her head bowed. Having married a naval officer herself and one of her sons serving for a short while in the Falklands her sympathy was genuine.I'd totally forgotten Princess Diana opening our new hospital and the pictures of her opening the new tesco superstore and whizzing round filling a big trolley, those pictures were hilarious.Something I forgot for a long time was in the early 80s Many parts of Britain were struggling with the after effects of WW2 , unemployemnt ,pay and other cuts.Michael Heseltine suggested a rejuvination plan to return what had been ok housing and decent areas from the slums they had become. He planned to rebuild slum housing but bring in something to attract tourism which used to be the lifeblood of big citiesIn Liverpool the area around the waterfront had suffered badly from the bombing raids and housing near there was a no go area. The Queen opened The Liverpool International Garden Festival in May 1984. i was expecting dd2 so didn;t get there until she was nearly 2 years old. The site was very big so when I took her there I took her baby buggy with me thinking she wouldn;t manage to walk all the way round the very big site. I discovered car parking was down on the waterfront and I put her in the buggy. I ended up carrying the buggy for hours as she ran around. After a couple of years new houses were built on part of the site. Thousands had visited there but the numbers grew less. The site began to fall in to disrepair. One of the things on my very long list is to look up whether it was saved as I knew the Queen did revisit. Finally lost my patience with telephone banking and took myself to town this morning. Haven't been there since last October it's always too busy and the last place I'd go on a Saturday. I was explaining the problem and getting nowhere. I asked if I could contact the call centre I used to speak to before the useless telephone banking system without a real person was introduced and was pointed to a phone on the wall. Over an hour of sorry to keep you waiting your call is important to us please stay on the line and a lovely young man came on the line. He said he could do a manual transfer to move the money from my current acount or set up a direct debit . I opted for the latter but asked him to send the payment due now through today which he did.One problem thankfully sorted. I'd considered going in to Boots to get some painkillers and see if they had the special offer on 3 packs of my antihistamines but as I'd suspected the store was very busy.Watching all the history of the Queens Reign made me think all that recorded history would be brilliant in schools and colleges to teach history.I'm actually going out tomorrow . my friend who has an Organic small holding with her husband has been phoning inviting me to visit them for a day. They have an ECV family member and so do I so we were being careful. None of us picked up the virus. Her mother is living elsewhere as is dd.Her husband often drops off fruit and veg on his way to or from the the Organic farmers market and so far things are ok. He has a meeting at the market mid morning tomorrow and will pick me up on the way home. They've made a lot of changes over the past year so I'm looking forward to seeing what thet've done and the animals which must be a lot bigger now.I hope everyone is ok and Nan gets some good weather for the holiday. Now the bank is finally sorted I should sleep tonight.pollyx

Thanks polly, everything went off well. We've been home just over an hour and we're shattered but content! I collected the sandwiches this morning from morries and I can recommend them, they were lovely and saved such a lot of time standing making them. Members of the church baked cakes and pies, and we bought some other cakes, crisps and salady bits to brighten up the sandwich platters. We've had 2 services today which were really interesting. Tea was in between then supper later on. All cleared up and home just after 10pm. Another anniversary Saturday over. Tomorrow will be quieter.
Glad you've got the bank stuff sorted. It's so frustrating when you can't do what you need to.
I've managed to catch some of the TV coverage today - saw the ceremonial coverage this morning and a bit tonight. We've recorded loads so we'll catch up through the week.2025 Fashion on the ration
