He's made a couple of comments in the last 24 hours so he's still around.I tried to bring up Larrys' Twitter both Monday and Tuesday but Monday we had sudden thunder and lightning out of the blue and the interne kept cutting out. The weather is just calming down so managed to see the shot of Larry having a good look outside checking the PM had really left.I was hoping he hadn;t sneaked in to one of the packing cases for a snooze and woke to find himself at the new house. It's amazing how many PMs he's outlasted.Just watched PMQs and it was calmer, no waving hands , blustering or outrageous statements and plans Not my politics but nothing made me scream at the screen which is good.Hope everyone has reasonable weather. Still wet and cool here but better now the storm has moved on. The fact that had been lurking probably triggered thr pain then lack of sleep. I could always sense when a storm was due but not this time.Did the anniversary go well MrsCD?I hope burtha is fully recovered and managing the moving of everything uni x 2.Are you feeling better GMN? You've possibly had the same weather as me. I'm surpised how much colder it is here and very glad I did the shopping a few days ago.Noticed on local news there are some flu cases. The vaccination programme has just rolled out here. Surgey already have us booked. The year seems to have flown.pollyx.ETA If you still feel you may have picked up a bug GMN give the surgery a ring.

Larry now has billboards with him as the preferred candidate for leader. Brian Bilston's latest poem lists things that would do a better job than Truss. It's Called 'An Incomplete List of Things More Capable of Running the Country than the new Prime Minister'5

Our cat went AWOL once when the people across the road were moving. We were convinced he had sneaked into the furniture van and even phoned them up to see if he had appeared when they unpacked the van.

Monna was a fan too,Thanks for the reminder.I shall catch up with him. He did some readings in some of DD1s stores as a man of mystery I used to ask what he looked like. Not sure if she ever knew but she kept the mystery. Visiting authors used to have to go through the ritual of a Bettys TeaBest thing she did was put a signed by the author book on the shelf in the hall saying she couldn't stand the man. That's how we got to know Inspector John Rebus and all the following books. One due in October already preordered, The final one due after that and we'll have to say goodbye to Rebus.Youngest has a long shelf full of them. Are you feeling better now? You've really pushed yourself so do get some rest.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

After we'd had a sleepless night the cat strolled in at 4 a.mI've always been a cat lady. We had a mad dog in childhood that drove us loopy. Mum convinced one of the gradads he'd be useful protecting the chickens on the allotment and got herself a cat. Sadly he was of the prima donna type very aloof and spoiled rotten by mum.Over the years most of our cats were rescues like Larry. Cat of the heart our last ever cat was a tabby like Larry; He was a cat who did his own thing and sadly was hit by a hit and run driver. He was a free spirit whose best friend was my friends dog.he would visiit the neighbours every day then sit in the sun with my friends dog watching the world go by.A neighbour brought him home one night he'd found him in the gutter outside his house.I missed s cat but could never replace him.He was free spirit and a big fan of Freddie Mercury. We decided to picture him dancing among the stars with his beloved Freddie.Youngest has the company of two cats she resued with her boyfriend. Gardens there are huge and they never wander off apart from the big boy cat who at the start of the pandemic started climbing over into the large grounds of the nursing home next door to visit his old ladies.he was confused by the closed doors during lockdowns so the staff started leaving a side door open for him. Youngest had to have a word about the cheese dreamies it had taken her a long time to wean him off but thinks he still gets them from time to time as every now and then he comes home totally manic running and jumping all over the place and giving his sister a smack . Never a good idea as she's of the revenge is a dish best served cold type and will wait and get him when he least expects it.She is tiny compared to him but has a very good memory and strikes when he least expects it.We've had more thunder and lightning but it's warmed up a bit.Apart from the jab there's no where I need to go so will have a good sort through the winter bedding , do some knitting and see if I can get back to reading the part of a trilogy first book I've been failing to concentrate on for over a year. 2nd has been here for ages and the final part due in October.I've read many of Anna Jacobs books over the years so no idea why I'm struggling with this one . It's set in her imaginary Lancashire Valley and up on the tops with some familiar characters and newer ones. I shall persist. If all else fails I'll probbly find it easier in winter, pollyx

The church anniversary is this weekend, polly. I've been to order sandwiches this morning so we don't have to stand for ages making them! We've been doing bits and pieces for a few weeks to get ready so its not all left until the last minute. Just tables and chairs to set out now then well be ready to feed 90 ish in between the two services on Saturday. Proper sit down tea!
We've just bought a wool duvet to see if we'll be warmer in Winter and I'm stocking up on more packet and tinned foods rather than frozen.
I've just read Magpie murders and Moonflower murders by Anthony Horowitz and thoroughly enjoyed reading them. Got them both on kindle on offer.2025 Fashion on the ration

Really good idea to order in the sandwiches very time consuming trying to produce that amount yourselves. 90ish is a lot to cater for but I'm sure everyone will enjoy the day. Proper sit down teas are better than buffets in my opiniom. Time to sit and chat.I have just had a very frustrating time trying to trasfer the money for this months spend on the credit card from my current account to the credit card mandate. It's one of those automatic voice pressed all the buttons to sort the security checks and 3 times was told to try again tomorrow which will no doubt be a repeat of the same. Not keen on going in to town.Haven't been in my branch since just before the first lockdown to make the credit card payment over the counter as I uaually did. The new young male cashier was so busy saying old people were putting him at risk although unlike him I was wearing a mask I ended up spending a few days trying to contact our regional call centre who were barely staffed. Finally a lovely girl locally came on the line looked at things and discovered the cashier hadn;t done the final click to send the payment through, She put it through in seconds and stopped any late payment charges. With an unreliable internet connection it doesn't like weather extremes I'm not keenon online banking.I've been with my bank since the 60s when it was Girobank. It was taken over a number of times but never had a problem until the one at the start of the pandemic.Haven't been in town since last October because it's too busy so hoping telephone banking will be more cooperative tomorrow.I think wool will be our saviour this winter. I'm very glad of my stash of proper flannelette bedding which has lasted through many years. The modern brushed cotton doesn't compare. My mum was very traditional but decided to try nylon sheets and pillowcases when they appeared in the shops. My sisters and I hated them demanding proper sheets and pillowcases back. I decided then if I had children they would have Lancashire cotton and Flannelette, Some of their bedding is still in the stash. I did donate some to the hospice shop when very unusual heavy snow fell here.Haven'ttried an electric blanket Mar always said I should get one. Still got the two birthday gifts from youngest one electric the other warm and fleecy. The bag that had lovely fluffy socks in lovely colours I've taken a couple of pairs which are acting as bedsocks from. The rest will be boot socks for my ankle boots. The assortment of birthday gifts was lovely and very welcome including the still warm from her breadmaker wholemeal loaf.Think my soupmaker will get a lot of use. It doesn't use a lot of electricity. Most of the things I cooked for the freezer can be reheated in the Combi microwave quickly. i did check the suet in the cupboard just a couple of beef suet. Veg suet must have been out of stock last time I looked so have to start a list, Was a bad idea not having one with me the other day.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I didn't find a Brian Bilston bookI didn't already own or any other that appealed to me. I did find a fairly recent book by Brian Patten my favourite of the Liverpool Poets. I was already a lover of literature and poetry and when we girls were trusted in sixth form to go to Liverpool to study in the Picton Library we jumped at the chance. We did study but also after a while started going to the new Kardomah cafe if we had enough money. Too far to walk home so had to keep our bus fare safe. Most of the attraction for many back then was merseybeat and the groups but we met some young men who one day would be the famous Liverpool Poets. Our education was ehanced just listening and chatting to them. My main subject was English Lit the other Social History so I learned a lot from them . Our headmistress was very smug about allowing us to go to study in the library when the exam results came through but unaware we'd been also been learning while drinking coffee.I wish I wasn't so untechy, when the Kindle came out dd1 brought hers to show me and asked would I like one. I just didn't get on with it. Later when the bigger one came out she made me try hers but I still favoured a book,When I lost a lot of downloaded books including a couple of Rhondas and many others it may have been the Dell they were on even the main techie couldn't recover them so I decided to stick with real books. There are books that will arrive here over the next months already on preorder.Neil Gaimen may finally write the Good Omens part 2 book he was contracted to write and after that Amazon will release the filmed last year Good Omens 2 DVD. The agreemnet was book first then DVD.I'm waiting for the DVD. Not sure if youngest will want the book, She enjoyed the first dvd but don't think she'll add a different writer to her Sir Terry collection.Has anyone noticed Nan on the threads? I hope she and Mr Fix It are ok.pollyx

Hi Polly, thanks very much for asking, we're still both bumbling along. RL here has been rather hectic lately and I haven't been posting much. Firstly, our DGC stayed over for a few days, after that we had our summer holidays and then we had the DGC staying again over the weekend. I'm trying to sort out my Dad too as we're off on holiday again on Sunday, sadly he seems to be getting a bit confused so I need to check his meds tomorrow. I order them to be delivered to him, but now he can't remember if he's received them, so I need to check the dates on the boxes.
Hope you and your DD are feeling better now too.
Right, I'm off to bed as I've been having trouble sleeping and I'm shattered tonight.
Take care and look after yourself.
Lots of love nan/ Amy xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently4
