Excuse me some of us try to be the voice of reason.
Are you still managing to take better care of yourself? Right now I'm considering hibernation. I want to be like Mole in the Wind in the Willows tucked away warm and snug and waking up when Spring arrives

  • Hi all!

Been a funny week, having some trouble at work & been to docs today, he signed me off with anxiety & depression!  I know I shouldn't say it but I do feel rather embarrassed, never been signed off work before & feel very guilty  :/
So I came home & had a bit of a nap, sun came out so I hung some washing out though it's clouding over now so I'll have to keep an eye out for the rain again.
Have decided I need to get a grip & will try and use my time off productively, need to tidy the house (have let that slip lately) and will be baking as this really makes me happy   B)
I know it'll be up and down but I'm trying to think positively!
Hope everyone is having a good day!

Hi MrsFarmer, I know you don't know me, but please don't feel embarrassed, Depression is sneaky and can make us all feel ill/different in so many ways.
take the time off to rest and like you have said, indulge in the things that make you happy.

Yes polly, I'm trying, but my knee decided it didn't want to join in with the new walking regime. Managed to get a phone appointment with a physio yesterday, and after loads of questions he decided I probably have osteoarthritis and cartilage degeneration.  I have to do strengthening exercises umpteen times a day and anti inflammatory gel 3x day. He says it should improve in 6 to 8 weeks.....
Compared to your problems it's not that bad!
Like you I just want to hibernate. Bears and moles have the right idea. I've decided to concentrate on eating better instead.

Both my knees give me gyp as my mum used to say. I have been tested over the years for cartilage damage and have been clear so far. My knees were agony walking on Tuesday and the last ccouple of years my feet have become really painful when walking which wasn't the case befote. I think the fact dd and I no longer do all the walking we used to is probably the reason.
I got my Osteo diagnosis over 30 years ago, So all my mums ailments bacame mine then dds,
A couple of years ago Superdoc referred youngest to physio at our Health and WellbeingCentre. She was very wary she;s never forgotten the awful consultant forcingher arm up her back shouting at her she didn;t have Fibro.
I've always said give something a try if it isn't right you don't have  to go again.
Well the young man was brilliant he helped her up on to the couch then gently started moving her arms and legs telling her why he was doing these things, He said if she was in pain to tell him but she was absorbed in what he was doing and started chatting when he told her to call him by his first name as he was using hers.
He sent her home with sheets of A4 explaining the exercises, how to do them and how they would help. She printed them off for me and they did make a difference. She sawhim reguarly for months and when she said shewas ok he said always phone if you need to come back she never needed to and still does her exercises on a good day.
I was awake for a long time last night was about to doze off when I pictured  Moles cosy little home in the Wind in the Willows Books. I spent some time howto replicate that in the suburbs. All that digging underground , worms etc . Sometimes I do think I'm losing the plot.
Was just dropping off when I remembered the  mice in the Brambly Hedge books, i collected Brambly Hed china over the years, Tiny teacups , saucers and plates andaset of 4 big plates each showing one of the reasons, I was forever making a dash to save something as Ollie Mog climbed up the shelves of the Welsh Dresser so he could lie on the top.
Most precous of all is my Brambly Hedge Wall Clock that was on sale shortly after Jill Barklem died and twice a year I get very nervy when the clocks need changing. Terrified I'll drop it as all the downstairs floors are wood.
The clock features the Brambly Hedge mice with their china and welsh dresser. I fell asleep mumbling I'll look at that tomorrow i don't think they live underground in Winter
When I was going out on Tuesday I couldn't find a pair of matching gloves. I've loads of gloves but keep losing the left hand one, I'm left handed so always take the left one of if using my debit card in a shop and other things.. Over the years I treid buying bright red ones easy to spot . Two years ago i noticed Marks had begun selling off winter socks , gloves etc and pyjamas much earlier than the lead up to spring so I began to stock up. Tuesday I couldn't find two gloves that matched.
I was glancing round downstairs to see if I'd put  one glove down somewhere but all I saw was a pair of gloves I didn't recognise Grey with black cuffs very thick and warm looking. There was a cardboard label on them so I cut that off and  ventured out into the deluge. I was amazed at how warm the gloves were and very pleased with myself.
i took the gloves off when I got home with warm hands glanced at the label I'd cut off and read Dusting Gloves. That confused me there was a label inside the gloves Dusting Gloves then I remember doing a mad dash around Wilko grabbing Paracetamol, Toilet Rolls , Chesty cough mixture, Light bulbs and Scrubby things and other stuff I reguarly bought there Dusting Gloves I'd probably thought would be useful. I never knew such a thing existed but they saved my hands on Tuesday.
The finger joints have been very swollen and distorted and washing my hands earlier this week I thought I.ve got my mums hands.
I've been smothering them with Voltarol Emulgel in the daytime but washiing that away before bed so I can put my Arthritis Gloves on at bedtime, I'm using a better version of the gloves I've always used same company but a warning those can be damaged by creams and lotions, The new ones have grips on the palms and backs of the fingers so not dropping things so often so probalby they're the resson for no creams or lotions..
Boots used to sell various things for sports injuries and I found some of them helpful for knees , wrists and ankles.Quite tight fitting but I'd bought the smallest size from habit not realising I should have measured  first, The right size did help.

Todays episode in the Perils of Pollyanna is somewhere in this house there is a massive spider on the loose. I'd forgotten there would be Mozzie invasions in the heatwave and got bitten  I'd also forgotten this is the time huge spiders are looking for a mate
I'd picked up the post earlier put it on the bed as it's warmer upstairs today went to open an envelope and the was a big black spider on it, Tried to get it out of the room but it jumped down and is who knows  where.
I need to find it before bedtime over the years I had children shouting down the stairs mum theres a big spider hanging over my head come and get it.
I once sat in a rapidly cooling bath as one dangled over my head running up and down a thread every now and then just for a laugh.
I can handle smaller spiders just scoop them up on a piece of card and shove a glass or jam jar over and tip them out of the front door.
We get some shiny black beetles that move very fast but can usually catch them. When I moved here everyone was bigging up the sea and the beach no one mentioned the marshes.
    pollyx

wary but he'd do the exercises with her and print off all the instructions covering each apppt. She started to do them at home and thingsdid get a lot better, She still does them on a good day,
I don't think I could function without anti inflammatory gel. I refused all the strong meds youngest takes . A number of them are effective but flatten her for a while and nothing would have been done if I'd been in the same state,
The proper exercises do help she copied all hers for me.
Todays episode of the Perils of Pollyanna involves one ofthe biggest spiders I have ever seen.

Firefox intervened just as I pressed send it's been popping in and out for days . Managed to sort it but that's why my post is split.

Had a very productive day here. It's been beautiful but chilly. I got two loads of washing dried outside, took two pairs of trousers to have new zips fitted, paid bills online and done our shopping order on the app. DD asked if I fancied a trip to the DIY shop for some paint, to help her choose a colour for her stairs, so I waited to have my meal until I got back and gave DH his dinner before we went. Just settling down for Tv quiz evening!

  • Good evening all!

Funny old day, not feeling myself at all since being signed off work.  Had to force myself to go to my hair appointment this morning & couldn't face doing a supermarket shop.  Came home & lounged around, made supper and now I'm ready for bed!  Got to give myself a shake tomorrow as I desperately need to go and get an outfit for a wedding on the 22nd, not looking forward to the shopping or the wedding ha!
    Anyway, tomorrow is another day!

It's nice to see you burtha. I hope your two youngest are settling at Uni.
Lovely to have your little grandson all to yourself.
Still damp, cold and windy here.I've just spent ages trying to get the BBC news on. Usually the tv doesn't get switched on until the evening news,
I don't watch much on TV on prefer my DVDs or a good book. I found a receipt a while ago from JL in Liverpool One. I'd gone there for a new tv as the present one had stopped working. It was about 14 years ago and I wanted to look at the price of Kenwood Chefs as my old reliable one was on it's way out.
Ended up buying both tv and chef then the salesman showed me a Humax TV Recorder he said would record any tv programmes and series I wanted to keep.I ended up buying all 3 items. The humax box stopped working a few years ago .Some online searching showed Humax and Sony were no longer talkling to each other so my box wasn't recording and I lost lots of series I'd recorded.
I decided to buy a dvd player and dvds and that's worked well since.
I couldn't figure out why the news wouldn't come on earlier so suspected a power cut . Checked the phone landline and that was fine  so was the internet unusual in times we have power cuts.
Then I realised I'd turned the lights on when I came down to watch the news so not a power cut.
I turned the tv off unplugged it and went to make a hot drink, Tv came on properly as soon as I turned it on again. Tv doesn't really owe me anything after all these years and I do save for such events so not a disaster.
TV is working fine now and so is the Chef I bought. That replaced one I'd had for years and I bought it because it had a stainless steel bowl rather than plastic and a lot more gadgets,
Still no sign of the spider. Outdoors  doors haven't been opened or windows because ot's been too cold.
Maybe it escaped down one of the bathroom plugholes.
I've checked every ceiling and wall in the house and the ceiling cornices where thay sometimes begin to make a web but no sign of either a web or spider.
My little Henry with his smiley face lives on the landing and deals with the befroom carpets and landing . he's too heavy to carry up and downstairs so upstairs only.
I wouldn't traumatise him with a spider hunt so tomorrow will use the GTech Rocket to go through the house, that can reach up to ceilings and inaccessable areas..
I hope everyone is ok and plodding on.   I'm wondering how you're finding the mattress topper Mrs CD.. Recently I haven't been comfortable in bed and it seems to be hurting my back. Some years ago I ordered no turn mattresses for mine and youngest beds. I'd passed the point where flipping mattresses over to even out the wear was too much.
They were much better but when it was time to buy new ones I ordered another two which were delivered. The following day Superdoc phoned with stay indoors for dd. We knew she wouldn't cope without her boyfriend and the cats so she went there with everything except the kitchen sink her bed , desk  Dell desktop . chapel chair a tall bookcase and a lower one. Bedding , clothes and footwear all her makeup and books. It took a large van to move it all..On spider search I came across those two new  mattresses so plan is to replace the one on my bed and I'm wondering if a mattress topper would make it even comfier as we head to what it seems could be a hard winter weatherwise as well as financially.
I still haven't forgotten those three storms raging overhead . Arwen killed my Gas Boiler and Mar had a lot of damage to her roof.. I took the two mattresses out of the plastic when they arrived- i hate plastic. Propped them on their sides along a wall in a spare room and covered them with thick blankets to keep dust off.
I plan to change the mattress on my bed. All the beds here are bedsteads rather than divans. A lot more supportive  so I think with the new mattress I'll sleep better and pain should lessen.

It will take you time to adapt to the new situation it's a change  to yout normal. Al least you made it to your hair appointment . The.world wont end if you do your shopping on another day and if you're really struggling you can order your shopping online for delivery.
Don't call it lounging around it sounds as though you need time to rest and your body is telling you to go to bed and get that rest.
Shopping for the outfit will get that task done and out of your head so you'll have it done and dusted and wont be dreading it.
Baby steps and one thing at a time is the way to prevent feeling overwhelmed, Pacing yourself and dealing with one thing at a time is the way to go making sure you eat and get sleep and being kind to yourself will help you feel more like yourself again.
I often  used  to say to myself tomorrow is another day. That Scarlett O'Hara quote has lasted over the years and each day is new start.
Pollyanna Whittier used to say it's a whole new day with nothing  written on it yet as she played the glad game finding something positive even in a bad situation.
My username is my childhood nickname.. I'd discovered the Pollyanna books in the childrens library read them all and decided to play the glad game.
I remember my mum taking a lovely lamb casserole out of the oven one day, she dropped it  and the pyrex dish broke. She was staring at the mess and our intended
meal and I said Now how can we play the glad game and find the positive in this?
My dad muttered I think you'd better go to your room and read a book while I help clear up this mess .
Looks like fish and chips from the chip shop for us tonight. I carried on playing the glad game and when I was trying to think of a user name when I was joining MSE my youngest said it has to be Pollyanna mum you wont forget that.
