I used to enjoy River Cottage as it did focus on organic food where possible.Bought the 2005 Family Cookbook and the 2009 River Cottage Everyday. Both were over 400 pages and wouldhave made a handy weapon should the Zombies knock at the door. The small RC books were ok but there were too many fatty very meat heavy foods for my taste.OUr local hospice shop were grateful for those books in perfect condition one cover price £20 the other £25. I think my book cases breathed a sigh of relief. My favourite on TV was the late Geoff Hamilton, Really down to earth and hands on and organic. I'd been raised in a family that didn't use chemicals. I always made friends with the birds who were great at dealing with Aphids.I made a number of Geoffs garden projects , usually wood. trellis and very money saving. The Memoral DVD after his untimely death while rasing money foe a charity close to his heart is something I would not exchange for anything. Not even David Tennant. The sales have benefited young aspiring gardeners. Geoff came to gardening under his own steam and he and later Alys Fowler and Carol Klein were what my dad and granddads woud have called proper gardeners. This has reminded me I haven't noticed GQ on the forum lately .She's probably taking on the slugs with her sharpened steel.pollyx

I've even set up cameras, don't think the secret service have anything to worry about , but now I can watch it have its tea ......You are viewing a rat burtha? Are you sure you aren't creating your own Wind in The Willows. You now have a frog and a rat.Mole was my favourite but they can play havoc in the garden Badgers can be messyAs for Mr Toad having had a friend since school who restored classic cars and bikes but struggled to part with them was scruffy when restoring but would dress up wearing waistoat , smart trousers and a cravat. We'd hear his approach in the open top car as he sounded the Parp Parp horn exactly like Mr Toad.Has anyone been watching Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof? I didn't find out about it until the 2nd episode. It's using cold and big challenges to overcome trauma and memories. The scenery is beautiful I thought it was Switzerland but it's Italy. Theres Owain the weatherman his beloved hair is strugging. Alfie Boe + others . Everything is plunging into icy depths. I wouldn't last 5 minutes but everyone is monitored. It's interesting but odd at times ..As it's about trauma or past experiences they do give a warning for viewers what the subject with be at the start of each episode.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

the rat runs across my garden at teatime every night.. I set a live trap.. haven't caught him yet , think he's living in next doors shed .
He must have lodgers ...
I caught a mouse yesterday,
.. I put him in the car , ( he looked like a alan ) and took Alan on a little car ride to set him free ...think I was more scared than he was lol ..
came home and reset the trap .. seen Alan's mate Barry 10 mins later , he's smarter than Alan, he run into the trap took the food and went home with it for his tea..
no sign of Barry tonight ..
maybe he didn't like his tea ...
otherwise it's all perfectly normal here£223/ £250 GC7 -

Must revisit as I’m wanting to sort the garden this year and take a MSE approach.
I was also wondering about GQ. I seem to remember she was having an op - perhaps last year? I hope she’s ok. Would be great to hear her thoughts on the current inflation. GQ where are you, please come back!7 -

GQ where are you, please come back!GQ did have her surgery but needed to take it easy to recover and then head back to work. I think the last post I saw was on the Preppers thread she was fired up to get back to the lottie so she's probably busy and the slugs are in hiding. The Geoff Hamilton DVD is still available . It runs for 7hrs 40 mins and covers all his Barnsdale Gardens . Cottage. Paradise and Ornamental Kitchen Garden it's like watching and listening to him on Gardeners World with his contribution from Barnsdale. Those gardens still exist. His wife and son Nick kept Barnsdale going and opened it to the public. I love RHS Harlow Carr and Lavender Farms and other gardens but Barnsdale is my favourite. It's grown and matured over the years.I'm in NW England and Barnsdale Oakham. Rutland so the times we visited had to be long weekends to travel and see everything. The food there is lovely and it's got that laid back calmness Geoff had.I came across the dvd at a flower show up here, His wife and son were selling them. A long time ago but it's over on the big river site now so his legacy lives on in young aspiring gardeners.Naturaly I have his books from over the years and on cold winter days will lose myself in Cottage Gardens.pollyx

burtha are you planning to bring Alan ,Barry and the nameless rat to your hen party? I suppose we should be grateful you didn't manage to find Nessie. How would you have got her home? Doubt she'd have fitted in the camper.I looked and looked but I never spotted her on Loch Ness We used to often go on the Loch Lomand cruise but never spotted her or Rob Roy; The guide used to say we're now nearig Rob Roy country look to all the bushes and trees on the right.Youngest would stare and stare until I had to tell her Rob Roy was now in the history books. She had many expectations but we didn't see a man in a kilt until the piper on Princes St.I do love Scotland . You're lucky not to be too far away.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
