There's one problem I've found with some dead-tree format books - illegible typeface.DH recommended David Eddings "Belgariad" series of books to me, which he already had in dead-tree format. I started to read the first one, and really struggled, as the typeface was so tiny. I gave up in the end - I almost always read in bed if I'm going to read at all, and I couldn't read this book at all without using a magnifying glass, which meant I had to sit up in bed, which was chilly and uncomfortable. At least with the Kindle I can change the size of the font to something legible! If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)6

Nargleblast said:I have often bought second hand books for birthday and Christmas gifts. I get them online from WOB (previously World of Books) and the description tells you what condition it's in so you know it's not going to look tatty. I am happy to admit to people that their gift is second hand, there's a lot less embarrassment about this sort of thing nowadays, and I find most people I know are more environmentally aware.

I have no problem with writing in books, turning corners as page markers, reading them in the bath, ripping out pages / sections i've read to make them easier to carry (as long as they're my books, of course) - I even threw some away yesterday. We'd taken them on holiday and read them but there was nowhere to exchange or leave them (i.e. often holiday places have a book exchange). I was bu33ered if i was carrying them home, so i left them in the apartment but i'm sure they'd have been thrown. They were only chazzer easy-read paperbacks (one wasn't even worth the paper it was written on - i couldn't inflict it onto someone else 🤣)
THey're just paper - books could be left pristine, of course, but that isn't really the purpose of a book.I wanna be in the room where it happens5 -
I go through phases with my local library. Sometimes I don't visit for a few months then I remember "Ooh, I'll call in at the library, see what they've got" and walk out with about eight books.
Quails eggs? Never had them, but I think they taste similar to ordinary chook eggs. They're more of a decoration, really, scattered amongst a salad or served alongside something. You could also bread them like mini Scotch eggs, but you would need quite a few for a decent portion. One life - your life - live it!4 -

Bit quiet on here.....
My pea shoots are coming up nicely in the kitchen window, and the lettuce and beans are starting to pop up in the mini greenhouse.
Other news... I've started making granny squares from the stash of half used balls of yarn, to use them up. Eventually I'll sew them together to make a blanket.
