It's high time the nasty digs about mar stopped. She's lovely and doesn't deserve it. It's gone well beyond a joke and is putting me for one off the Fence thread altogether.15

Hi Ivy
I have just been catching up on the thread and only read the last dozen pages but nearly every post seems to have mar in its sights and is making me feel a bit uneasy.

Don't worry ivyleaf - Mar enjoys it I think - keeps us all out of mischief - this has been going on for years, even on a previous thread.4

Weenancy, yes we all have a little chuckle but TBH I'm with Ivy, I havn't posted much for quite while as this thread doesnt seem to have the same vibe now as it used to.
Having a wee joke is one thing but I feel its been done to death now. Lets get back to what this was supposed to be, a garden fence for chatting among friendly helpful people.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle16 -
Unfortunately it's no longer funny. The joke has been flogged to death.
I spent some time recently reading back over the first pages of this thread dating back to 2017. There are some marked differences between the thread then and the thread now.
Then - there were many more posters, a wide variety of people.
Now - just a handful. Where (and why) did all those posters go?
Then - the Fence was a friendly and supportive place, the whole tone of the thread was lighter, friendlier, more uplifting and funnier.
Now - there's a darker and more sinister tone to the thread, causing a feeling of unease.
Then - the Fence was the setting for wild adventures and riotous parties featuring elephants, people in corsets, police dog handlers, armada knitters, possessed vacuum cleaners....many different posters had their legs pulled in a friendly manner, and witty banter flew back and forth and all around.
Now - one person alone is constantly getting targeted, and the posts are starting to cross the line between what is an acceptable bit of fun, and what looks suspiciously like school playground unpleasantness.
Such a shame, because I for one used to love reading the thread and joining in with the nonsense.
One life - your life - live it!15 -
I apologise to all the regular OSers I got to know and was welcomed by over the years. Through lifes ups and downs I had genuine support , good advice and kindness that helped me keep puitting one foot in front of the other over many difficult years. I will always remember and never forget that. The elephant thing seemed to take on life of it's own over the years and was light hearted banter, I have posted about knitting cooking , sewing and other things through the years including growing your own, I was tired last night but looking over the posts did think it was top heavy with the Elephants situationMar was replying in her usual fashion so apart from different posts on different subjects not being many i didn't feel I or anyone else was having a go at her.If anyone including Mar feels offended by my posts replying to her I will hand over my rolling pin, hand crafted Nappy pin ID and oilcloth shopping bag and leave.I've spent the afternoon watching events in the HOC and just come here.Mar is a valued friend who has kept my spirts up and made me laugh during the last couple of not normal years . She is funny but like me has health problems so we laugh or sympathise and try to think of solutions.I am not a vindictive person and would never knowingly upset anyone including Mar.I remember the variety of OS posts over the years which helped many escape the buy everything and get in to debt culture and find a better way to live.Nowadays that's still important with rising costs. So keep on doing what you do well.I did do a post about Fencing for you Zola so hope you may find that helpful if you decide to go ahead.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.4 -

I read this thread regularly but have never posted. What should be an evenings fun is now just a continuous cycle with the same stories by the same people daily there is nothing old style nor supportive just nonsense such a shame as the thread was lovely and supportive when first startedSlava Ukraini10

Oops. I think I may have inadvertently started the last phase when I asked about painting the fence with some surplus Cuprinol, and innocently asked about the heffalump. I apologize if I started something which has grown like a snowball running downhill, however in fairness the said 'victim' gives as good as she gets.
After the last few years of stress and angst I have always looked on this as a bit of light relief and gentle banter.
Don't give up on this thread, it will bounce back.4 -
I just check to see if Monna is OK.
