Ahh, so for sewing then. I don't sew so hadn't heard of them. I use safety pins until the garment falls apart then cut it up for dusters, I hate sewing7

I never quite got the hang of thimble. I have 2, my mother's and my grandmother's, both great needlewomen. The genes grew weary when they got to me. My great grandfather was years ahead of his time for a working class, Victorian father. He insisted that not only his 5 sons, but also his 3 daughters were trained properly in some skill so that they could earn a good living and be independent. My grandmother was a tailoress, her youngest sister was a milliner and I've forgotten what the third one was. When Nan started her training he gave her a silver thimble and she used it throughout her life.
You should know better than to start me off down memory lane.
My friend has an opticians appointment in town this morning and has offered me a lift in if I'd like to do any shopping. I very much do NOT want to go into town, but I know that she would like the company so I'm torn. I am warm and comfy in bed and my lazy, baser nature is urging me to stay here, but the nicer and more inconvenient side of my conscience is telling me not to be so selfish and get up and dressed and go with her.
I do hate these mental battles.

Personally monna I'd say unfortunately I've come down with a bad case of ebola/blackdeath/galloping consumption/utter lazyness so can't come with you. But then I'm bad. And under a vase so I dont care.

It’s your responsibility to stay home Monna! Besides which, what are you going to do while she’s at the optician? It’s not like you can go and sit in a nice warm cafe. Best stay safely at hom3 and invite her for coffee in the garden later.9

Re thimble wearing - never really got the hang of them but do occasionally use one.
I use a needle puller when using a long doll needle - only the tip is showing when going through an arm then the body and the other arm - as in making raggy rag dolls. Not made any recently - the picture is of a 2015 make.

You are shameful!
I did actually go, with gritted teeth. She appreciated the company. She lives on her own,but unlike me she is not happy without lots of social interaction.
Anyway, it was OK and she came back to my untidy heap for coffee and went off happy.

Morning all.
Now today I can really revel in bringing my tea and toast back to bed, putting the electric blanket back on and snuggling down with my blessed tablet.
It's jolly chilly out there, although the sun is shining. I hope that it will warm up later and I won't have to put the heating on. The one good thing about living in a tiny bungalow is the lower heating bills.
Oh, there are other benefits as well, I really appreciate coming out of my bedroom and there only being half a dozen steps into every other room, and being able to shove the vacuum around the bits that show in the whole house in five minutes.
There are downsides too, like having always lived in large houses (in one case ridiculously large) all my furniture is large and I have TOO MUCH STUFF. Still, once the CS's and tips are available again, that can be tackled.
I can't think of anything more boring to inflict on you today. Please someone introduce a new topic of conversation.

At first I found moving into this tiny wee house like living in a wardrobe, but I'm getting used to it now. It is far easier to clean, it is far warmer, and not having steps up to the doors makes life a lot easier for me.

Sunny but chilly here. We walked into town for our exercise and picked up some offer toilet rolls. They were put in the under stairs cupboard out of sight when we got home.
monnagran - hope I helped someone today. I did pick up a piece of wood with 2 nails poking out of it when we were walking home - thought - a nasty accident waiting to happen if left on the pavement. I spotted a jacket hanging on a fence on the way to town - still there when we came back so I will list it on the local lost & found site. If not claimed - will wash and send it to the charity shop.
Just before the minute's silence - spotted a neighbour parking her car and know she is having a relationship issue so popped out to see her. Missed the silence but needed to be where I was. Poor woman was in tears so I listened.
Another finished pair.

You certainly did your bit Florence. Years ago I bought something in a shop and there were just a few pence change, so I told the girl behind the counter to put it in the charity tin. "Sorry it's not more," I said. To which she replied, "Ah, but what if everybody did it? The charities would make millions."
I used to teach my children at school that if they were ever unsure of the right thing to do, asking themselves, "What would happen if everybody did it?" would give them a clue. I used the example of dropping a sweet paper in the street - if everybody did it we would be shuffling ankle deep though litter. On the other hand, if everybody picked a bit of litter up, the roads would be clean and pleasant. The parents weren't too impressed when their children arrived home with their pockets stuffed full of filthy bits and pieces they'd picked up.
Honestly, wind me up and let me go.
I don't know about you, but I found yesterday's farewell to Prince Philip more moving than a full state funeral would have been, and I love a bit of pomp and circumstance.
I hope everyone has a pleasant day, whatever you are doing.
