Certainly do but this time It's world wide. Now it's everything but fresh food. Ald* was bereft of nearly everything yesterday. My DS is working long hours trying to get out as much as they can. He works in the warehouse.

It's insane. I'm still locked up. Hopefully there will be some fresh food available when I get out - even the milkman and my veg box scheme seem to be struggling with the demand. Are people suddenly eating more perishables or have they bought extra freezers?4

Make's you wonder greenbee.
Glad I got a tub of black peppercorn's last month, OH hate's the stuff but I like it.
Managed to get the kitchen roll with my delivery, the driver said it's a very busy day. I asked him what the order was for today, I struggle getting up the step's carrying thing's so have 'please bring in' on my instruction part, he said as long as we were not self isolating he was happy to still bring it in.

monnagran said:Indeed Camelot, I do remember the great toilet roll shortage of the 70s. It was followed swiftly by the great sugar shortage. I also remember the great pepper shortage of the 60s. I can't remember quite why pepper suddenly disappeared from the shops, but it was more precious than gold dust for a time and it was remarkable how everyone desperately NEEDED pepper.
I foresee a great interest in wartime rationing arising. Ha! Been there. Done that.Well as the person with what you call an inconvenient memory Monna I don't remember any of those shortages. I'm putting it down to baby brain. DS was born in 1970 and DD1 12 months and a week later so things were full on and pretty hazy.I wont be speaking to my milkman for a while. He delivers long before I'm awake. The local dairy farm that have delivered here since the mid 70s have suspended doorstep payments for now and offer online or phone card payments only during the present situation. I shall miss him. I've watched his children grow up over the years as they went on his collecting rounds during school holidays. We spent years trying to put the world to rights. It's the first time in my life there hasn't been a milkman collecting.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Are people suddenly eating more perishables or have they bought extra freezers?I hope you're released soon. My dairy is ok at the moment they own the dairy farm and the delivery business and have been in business through generations of the same family. The dairy cows are just a short walk from here. Matters may change should policy change but their managing for now.The timing of this virus is unfortuante. I'm surrounded by farms. Friends have a small organic one plus hens that can lead happy lives. Most other growers supply bagged salads, tomatoes and other veg to the supermarkets but a number of them have been found to operate illegally paying buttons to immigrants and charging stupid amounts of money for substandard accomodation. They go to court ,pay a fine and carry on regardless. Needless to say I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole and a number of well known supermarkets should do the same. The main problem for those who do have gardens is it's not the most productive time of the year. I've been keeping up with the windowsill microgreens but in the absence of a polly tunnel there's only the small greenhouse to bring things on quickly.I always avoided a poly tunnel due to the gales here on the coast which can cause a lot of damage. All the shelter I've put in place can't protect everything.Positive is I have lots of seeds etc. Many of the herbs have turned themselves to perennials over the years probably due to the times I've been otherwise occupied.Dd has been vegetarian for many years and now almost vegan. I eat only a small amount of meat on Drs orders but can see us following a veggie/vegan diet.pollyx

I'm going to start organising the garden now. Will get some compost etc and some seeds. We were getting a new shed but we've now decided that since we might drop dead next week we should keep the money and do something better with it, So I've got loads of space now for tatties, onions or leeks, and some containers for salad.

We've decided to buy a nice garden swing instead of a shed, so we can enjoy self isolation in comfort.6
