  • Oi, VJ. What are you doing inn here talking about proper foods.
  • I had too much liver in school dinners that I havent eaten it since I left and that was 45 years ago , its the slightly bitter taste that gets me in the throat ........
I did a nice beef stew in my new slow cooker yesterday and it was beautiful, its actually only been the past month that ive owned one , and what a godsend that is and so easy to use .....But I will get a cookery book on food done in slow cookers , as you can tell I dont really like cooking at all , id rather be outside chopping wood or cutting the grass , just never found cooking or baking interesting ......

But I do love housework , washing ironing etc , oh I get so much pleasure out of a clean home ........

But I do love eating though :D.......

FUDDLE ....Where roughly do you live in the country now , ? because if I remember correctly you did move a few times a few year back , I hope your settled and happy with your life wherever you are ......

MADATHER ....Im still on the sea kelp and im doing ok , it helps with fatigue alot , I remember it stopped working for you and wondered if you ever went back on it .....

I'm back on the kelp Sheila, not noticing any difference yet but its early days :)
  • I'm another lover of lambs liver Sheila I'm afraid Done in a casserole with lots of lovely onion gravy it's very moist and tender .

Instead of buying a recipe book for slow cooker recipes there are loads of recipes on the monthly grocery challenge thread at the top of the first old style page . A lot of them were from Squeaky's OS Index which used to be a pinned tweet They cover sweet and savoury recipes and are all tried and tested .

It's good to see you happy and content and thanks for the Kelp reminder . I can't remember when I stopped taking it but as I've been ill I'll start it again . I'm not sleeping too well and I remember I did sleep a lot better when I was taking it .

Hope you and the RV are ok Mar .

I'm settled, comfortable and happy in my own house now Sheila. No more moving for us.

Oh polly, thank you. I'll go have a look. My meat order arrives today and have been looking at what I ordered on my email confirmation - lambs liver not chicken. I'm pleased because I wanted to do liver bacon and onions. Anyway, I've been reading online about liver prep and I've just learned that by soaking the liver in milk an hour or so before cooking takes away the bitter taste. Anyone do this?

I also ordered beef skirt. I've never cooked that before so I need to look into that.

Polly it's lovely to see you back posting again. I hope to goodness you have a break with the infections now. Xx

Ooh, enjoy your liver people! DS1 and I are the only ones in our family who love it, so it's a treat when he visits me on his own. I just fry it with mushrooms, bacon and onions. Wonderful.

I had a spell of taking kelp. Mar's fault, she made me do it, but after the first bottle I hadn't noticed any improvement so stopped.

Sheila, put us together and we'd make a half-decent person. I love cooking but gardening etc is just outdoor housework. Not that I can't do it, I just don't enjoy it.

Polly, nice to see you. I hope the bugs and things are giving you a break for a bit.

Loves proper foods I does BoP. Had a snorker on Monday....

Hadn't heard of soaking liver in milk before, I will try it. I think I like the gravy as much as the liver..,
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Beef skirt has a lovely flavour and is one of the best cuts for a very long slow cook in the slow cooker it's lovely as stewed steak and makes a really good pie filling.

Can't often get beef skirt but shin of beef makes lovely casseroles too. Skirt and shin are ideal for the slow cooker. I usually make a big batch and put some in the freezer it's nice to have something comforting when the weather is rotten.
    ........and suet dumplings - yum!

  • Hi all
Enjoying the food talk  :D. You reminded me that I have some venison liver in the freezer, so I think I will cook that with onion gravy and mash potatoes tomorrow. I had never had venison liver but one of our neighbours kindly donated some :T ( his SiLaw is a game keeper ). Hope everyone is well and it was lovely to see Burtha posting.
    Take care all
