Welcome back to the Bops.
D4V, your post leaves me somewhat awe struck, and yup a vicious circle of decluttering and decorating is continuous.
1 Bird feeders re stocked, and finally threw an old, much repaired one feeder out and replaced it with another old one from the shed.
2 Various washing loads underway, a bit of tidying.
3 I forgot to food plan, but with various leftovers a mince, rice and veg combo was created.
4 I won a competition today, I am really so chuffed, a £100 gift card.
5 The place “smells festive”? Ikea had some gingerbread candles, they smell amazing.0 -
BLIMEY !
First of all WOW !
Second of all........ Thank you for including me, feel special now. Your memory must be phenomenal. But it really was a nice surprise to see my name so thank you to all who have done that.
Yes, where is Ampersand..... ? Hope she's okay.
Tiggy somewhat better today.
I love the way you describe things although have to admit that most references go over my head. Was nice today to understand the whole 'Doge' conversation and having read ' The Prince' could actually imagine the father feeling that it would be great bedtime reading for sons.
Look forward to your next epic post.AKA : Bala La Boo & Bala Baloo
According to a lovely poster I am Bala the Brave who wrestled a Tiger. You know who you are.....

Haha gran3 maybe that’s what’s needed a firefighter...however I just had to make do with stinky fire lighters and the smell indeed makes me heave!
Well hello from the ultra cosy extension! Wood burner on and curtains up at patio doors! Had a fire lighting session with son this morning so I now know what to do! Fire lighting was always something OH did as he did love a real fire!
As I went to bed last night despondent about the impending poll results I didn’t sleep at all well however I was surprised when it was all of a sudden 7.55am as no one needed an alarm before then! Then remembered the results!
Had to take mum and cat to the vets. Had to walk my dog first. Then scrape ice off the car! With my Australian library card! I had an email from them yesterday...we’ve not seen you in a while. Your membership about to expire...but I’m still using your card...just in a different way.
Dropped mum and cat back home. Popped into Tesco for a few bits for her then found a very RTC bargain pile so bought a few things to make a baking hamper for GN Christmas.
Home! Get that fire on! Son had day off so he showed me what to do. So we’ve kept it going all day.
Builder chap here. I hate him I really do! He just fobs me off so at one point I’m almost ready to lose my rag in the garden so said “I’m walking away before I lose my temper’ he just does not listen. Have ranted to architect!
Chimney chap had came and fixed the bit that should have been attached to ceiling!
Then had to go back round to my mothers. Hoovered. Did dishes. She is going to need more care...I am going to have to be there more. Anyway we set up a supermarket online shop for her so that’s coming next week.
Nice walk back home. Had ‘borrowed ‘ DD2 coat. One of these big fluffy furry ones, was most cosy!
Lovely chat with DD1. Got a wee bit teary as she told me her Christmas Day plans . We had a fun game . And her brother was joining in too. She was telling us her travel plans for next year ( as in a whole year of world travel)
Postie came . With gifts! My magazine subscription from Australia. My free gift from Good Housekeeping here . £6 for 6 magazines and a lovely recipe book.
And two parcels from DD1 for Christmas gifts and a sheet of wrapping paper that I’d kept from a lovely farewell gift we’d received and had always wondered where it went to! I’m going to frame it.
Back home and ‘boo’ ed by son...I knew he was in as the fire was blazing! And he was hiding behind the new curtains!
May have had a tiny snoozette. But only about 15 minutes before DD2 came in from work and disturbed the peace! Had to listen to her vent!
Then we had takeaway for tea, then the niecelys came and the baby had a banana and crawled all over the place and DD2 had another vent ( same vent I just had to hear it all again) Gave GN a Christmassy top I’d found in the cupboard bought in January sales!
I have work all day tomorrow with zero notion! Sigh! Then an evening event !
All I’ve done in the house is Hoover ! There’s always Sunday!0 -
Pleasures for today -
Full moon still in the sky when I got up this morning, absolutely beautiful. It starts waning from today until New Moon on Boxing Day.
Short exercise session at local gym, not too vigorous but enough to feel virtuous.
Leftover home made rice pud heated up and wolfed for breakfast. Made in the slow cooker the other day, with cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg, and served with blueberries and cinnamon sugar. Decadent or what?
A coating of golden yellow marzipan put on the Christmas cake I made yesterday. I wasn't going to bother this year as there's only me for Christmas, but I had a "What the heck!" moment. I like Christmas cake and I like making it, so I made one. We can start eating it next week before son goes away for Christmas.
Finalised arrangements for dog walking when son leaves home in the New Year. I work two long shifts a week, and a neighbour round the corner has his own dog walking business. Dates given to him, he'll arrange to come and pick dog up after Christmas for a "getting to know you" walk. This has been a big thing hanging over me so I am relieved to tick it off my list.
Fish and chips from the chippy tonight.
Watching re-runs of Gavin and Stacey in preparation for the Christmas Day special.
Loaded up car in anticipation of long journey tomorrow to the heart of Fenland to see my dad and stepmum. Son and dog coming with me, picking up daughter en route at a railway station. Dad will be so chuffed to see both of his adult grandchildren together.

Quick pleasures for today:
1) A good sleep after yesterday's mammoth day.
2) A big relief this morning. I had to swap smaller son's DLA over to PIP (deadline 2nd September). It's an awful form and the charity that helps with that (that I have recommended to so many people) were dreadful this time - didn't reply to my messages or emails. So I did it alone, with no up to date medical records to add. I knew I would never be able to make him go to assessments but expected to have to appeal... and today heard he has PIP, no assessment needed, for 5 years!
3) Fed the hens and cleaned out their sleeping quarters.
4) Popped down to see mum and dad.
5) Went to see second mum to give her the Christmas wreath in place of a Christmas card. Had a cup of tea there and was shown around her Christmas decorations. By chance, they had been to where bigger son has got his new job.
6) Chips from the van for tea.
7) Wrapped some presents and can see the present buying is nearly at an end.
8) Checked Quidco and have £60 ready to use.
9) My sister is beginning to recover from her pneumonia/pleurisy combo.0 -
Just lost long post - again.

Pleasures for Thursday
1. teaching was OK and not too many complaints about their assignment marks. Tho one girl was so furious with me that i'm afraid it made me laugh :rotfl: (internally, she was just shrouded in fury...)
2. Able to help one with good feedback to improve next time.. it was good that she bothered, she got half an hour 1:1 and is set up to do better next time.
3. Was going to go shopping for bits and bobs for the kids, but it was heaving down and I just couldn't face it so came home.. Not shopping is definitely a pleasure.
4. Voted with my heart not my head and glad I did (though our incumbent MP of a totally different colour to either heart or head won, as expected)
5. DS came home for Christmas.
and yesterday
1. Devastated by the result - was hoping it would be hung. Is there a pleasure? Hmm, I guess that some decent MPs did keep their seats.
2. Lunch with friend
3. started my next batch of marking - always the hardest part. I get paid per piece so I like to work out what I can buy with my wages - though never actually spend it on 'stuff' as i'm not really a 'stuff' person.
4. DD, OH and I went out for dinner and then to see the symphony orchestra play star wars, was much better than I anticipated.
5. DS picked us up so we didn't have to walk home.
Have a good day all - more marking and typing for me today.
Edit - good news, Frith, re sonI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Epic post as always DFV and love your summarisation.
What a weight off your shoulders Frith good to hear.
Friday pleasures,
Went over to see beautiful grey one, the schooling arena was pretty flooded and the wind bitterly cold so we opted out of exercise to have a walk & graze in-hand instead.
Home for a warm up with chicken soup.
Out to the farm shop, the butchers counter is very competitive price wise and infinitely better quality so stocked up.
Not a pleasure as such but the element in my oven went whilst warming up so a quick change of recipe to put tea on the table.
Bed had been changed and we always have a half joking, half serious race to be the one who gets in first, my beloved invariably wins and manages not to look TOO smug.0 -
Fab posts all round, and of course I do enjoy your epics Dfv not come across a Wigan buttie before. Great news on the job frith see my pleasure below re son. Commiserations & re your post. For Friday 13th
1) walked in with dd2 who is spending weekend in London with her bf, whereas I enjoyed a great 1 day conference. Far too much food left over but was able to give tray of tray bakes to chap off to run a focus group then, walking back to office, saw 2 dental students selling cakes for a homeless charity so donated 2 trays of Danish pastries and 2 trays of fruit yay
2) email from ds. He has a job, Aberdeen, starts 13th jan, thermodynamics (his phd, hopefully soon to be submitted, is applied maths). followed by email from his girlfriend saying ds ‘is a robot. What he meant to say is yay I have got my dream job up in Aberdeen, we will be moving back to Dundee so we can look for a flat and (girlfriend) can find a new job in Aberdeen. I am so excited. I love you all and looking forward to crimbo’. Too funny!

For yesterday.
1. Met a friend for coffee. Had a lovely catch up with her.
2. Did some Christmas shopping. Asked for and got NHS discount in most of the shops - even in the shops that didn't do NHS discount!
3. Met another friend who had recently had surgery. It was her first time out of the house since the surgery but is doing well.
4. Went to watch the rugby. Managed to get a seat on the train despite South West train strike. Rugby was not a pleasure especially the second half.
5. A friend left a message as she was concerne d about something unnecessarily thankfully.0
