For the last days
1 lots of considerate visitors ,who have mainly stayed 2-3 hrs .
DH likes to see them but gets incredibly tired v quickly .
2 Our wine group who have invited me to the Christmas social despite not getting to any meetings since July ,will only go for a couple of hours if DH can be left on the night ,he insists he will be fine but ...
3 The lovely plant pots I bought for the bare root roses I got .Not really M SE but amusing as the roses were 3 for £15 and then it was £100 for the pots .They are our Christmas present to each other .so that's how I'm justifying them .
4 Bright sunny and cold yesterday and today ,such a change from the rain .Have had DH out in the motoiesed chair ,practising ashead of his road assessment
5 The enormous grin DGS 1 gave me when he saw me ,had told him I'd try to get to see him parade today with his air cadets ,took photos to show his proud Grandad .
We had a traumatic visit to Addenbrookes ,11/2 hrs late after problems with the transport ,v great film they still saw DH ,no more answers just there are now 3 possible diagnoses ! They said that the only definite is that he has not got Parkinsons !think we'd worked that out !,
Feeling v down ,he has practically no speech now ,can only just feed himself ,but he passed all his cognition and memory tests with flying colours ,sho is well aware of his predicament .0 -
I hear you Mrs M ...I’ve picked up leaves today (again) and there’ll be more tomorrow!
So Sunday Funday. No work! Hurrah!
A day of pottering around.
Went to church for Remembrance service. Glad I went, glad I had Sunday off to go. However lost my lovely knitted poppy somewhere between church and car park on way home. Always grateful to those who served before and to those who serve their country now.
Met a few people I knew. Quick chats.
Bright , sunny but blooming cold. Was -3o this morning.
Bought a new clothes airer. My last one got somehow broken when the last lot of Australians were here.
So I got new to me curtains the other week as the other ones ( thicker and longer) just didn’t quite meet in the middle by just a couple of obvious inches. However the newer ones were just too thin to keep heat in and chill out. Sigh! What to do? Brainwave. Add the older ones back on to curtain rail with the thinner ones ( almost same colour) at the outer side and the thick warm bit now meeting in the middle. I’m almost a genius! And if anyone asks....they’re meant to be like that!
Offered my 2 front room sofas for free, neighbour straight across coming to see tomorrow. They were second hand to me, the leather one I got free as it was ‘broken’ ...has been perfectly fine for us. However they’re just too huge and I’m about to move stuff around when I get wood burner stove in a few weeks as I want to use that space as a living area (currently dining) and they just don’t fit. I had called a charity last week and left voicemails but they never got back to me.
Spent a short time in garden as it was cold. But leaves all picked up for now! Lots of birds down earlier for some food ( being stared at by dog through glass! )
Nice chat to sister as she was just back her holiday.
Have sorted a little pile for next charity collection. Including the lovely but far too scratchy cable knit jumper. Why use such a scratchy wool?
No one here this evening . Son will be homeward bound from mountains and DD2 at work till late. Just me and my doggy.0 -
Sue I was just thinking of you and you were just posting as I was thinking!
Just take heart from the simple things, the shared moments, enjoy your roses in their beautiful pots, your shared pride in your grandchildren.
Big hugs xxx0 -
1 Volunteered all morning at a remembrance parade.
2 Various food planning adhered to.
3 Cleaned up the ovens a pleasure when it was done.
4 A bit more clearing this time a lot of glasses wrapped in paper to go to the CS.
5 I was told I was being bah humbug, by not putting up a Christmas tree -today! Hmm so instead I have dug out Nigel Slaters Christmas chronicles to see if I can’t get more festive.0 -
1) shadowed the provost as he opened up. my goodness what a lot of candles, keys and bits and bobs to remember. i have written it all down, including how to reboot the boiler (he leaves end of december, sniff)
2) beautiful remembrance service
3) made risotto for lunch. mrpiano made excellent risotto - i didn't have any white wine so put in a slug of sherry - very tasty
4) had a chat with mrpiano. he is settling in though missing the boys.
5) choral evensong with gbf. then back here for risotto (leaving one portion for tomorrow's lunch) and walked the boys by which time mrphdstudent had arrived so we had a good chat over a cuppaMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Pleasures for today (Sunday).
1) Not a bad sleep, but disturbed now and then by both sons watching the build up then the KSI v Logan Paul fight (if you don't know who they are, you're not missing much!) Was woken for the last time at 5.34am when smaller son hollered "Yes, get iiiiiiinnnnnn"! when KSI won!
2) The loser of the bets is going to make an enormous cooked breakfast on Thursday (smaller son).
3) Hens very well and I had a bonfire on the allotment and tidied up a bit. Also ate 2 wild strawberries.
4) Tidied up, did washing etc.
5) Smaller son went to the football with my brother. Bigger son went to work.
6) Sat in front of the stove and watched the Ant and Dec DNA programme, which was much more interesting than I thought it would be.
7) Tasty tea of pork loin, roast pots, parnsips, carrots, peas, stuffing and gravy. And apple sauce. Thought 8 pork loins would mean some for tomorrow but no, bigger son had 3!0 -
Have been taking a mini break from social media as habit of picking up tablet was eating into my days so, pleasures for last week or so,
Small dog making friends at the vets, a beautiful British bull terrier who I rather fell in love with and another chocolate spaniel,
More animal care, this time equine girlie who had a visit from physio, her back was a tad sore possibly from holding herself tense when stomach was bad, all loosened up so happy pony.
Discovering some tasty new cider, hate the overly sweet fruit ones but these ones are not syrupy in any way, particularly keen on the blackberry and nettle.
The weather turning colder so HWB’s out and thick socks used.
A package of books from Persephone, well you get them cheaper when buying three!
Snap on getting out copy of Christmas Chronicles PK.
Pony losing shoe in field, pleasure is that I found the shoe with nails still attached!
Despite it being awful weather watching my DB do a fire walk to raise money for hospice that cared for our lovely Mum, so proud of him.
Hiring a hall on a Sunday afternoon and having a big family meet up, the youngest was just over a year, the eldest mid eighties and it was smashing to catch up on everyone’s news, we all brought a couple of plates of food and a lot of tea was drunk, perfick.0 -
Hello , mind if I join you all? I posted here for a bit, ages ago and found that even though it was sometimes hard to find 5 pleasures if my mood was low, or life particularly stressful, it was a good exercise in finding perspective.
Plus, everyone on the thread is always so lovely.
I’ve forgotten my previous login details so have had to rejoin!
So, assuming you’ll have me!, here are 5 pleasures from yesterday:
- nice bright morning when we got up
- good fresh morning coffee
- fairly chilled day with 3 out of 4 family members home most of the day
- nice, warming dinner of pie, mashed potatoes and fresh veg
- wine and a read of my book before bed
I hope everyone has a good day, and I send positive thoughts to all who are having an especially tough time x0 -
Just that time again, I hear the century of stillness again. Mine was the day that Skid, don’t call me Skid came into the room in the barrack. We done Black buck by then, or had we, cannot remember why. Don’t call me skid. GDSMN Marks Sir Galahad. June 82. His brother, my comrade in arms.
Only I has grown older!
Good to see the parades and well done PK on yours. Still cannot bare to even turn up as some greasy politician will be there murdering !!!!!!
I read that some historian type who is overrated has decided that the poppy I wear is some symbol of elitism? That person is not worthy of carrying my excreta. When I served, you carried your own. Not my end! Problem is he has not seen pity, poverty and starving. The poor wanting more, and …
Now on to BoP Fest news for this day.
Was inn the emporium yesterday morning and looked at the excessive prices. No we gets the chicken for home roasting inn. Done proper by BoP. Foiled for 95 minutes, then off to crisp up. Tore a bit of the breast skin offs, so covered with some foil. Roasted clean for another 20 minutes, then foiled and rested for ten. Sharp carved and served with pan gravy, roasted rosemary spuds, leeks and carrots, diced carrots. Stuffing and snorkers inn blankets. Enuff left for tonight as well!
