5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Evening all
Nargle - I've been thinking of you and SuffolkSue you too. I am sending you virtual hugs and strength right now.
My dad's cremation is next week and I really want it out the way. My mum's 'memory' situation is plummeting and her behaviour becoming pretty challenging at times.
But still there are pleasures:
1. I am making a cuppa and checking in with a lovely smiley picture of my dad in the mornings if my mum hasn't got up so I can chat to him in peace about how I should cope with the ton of things going on and get affirmation that I'm doing fine. It's great because he keeps smiling back at me!
2. Bumped into a friend I hadn't seen for ages in the supermarket. She was about to get a coffee so I joined her and we caught up on news.
3. Very nice aubergine bake and veggie sausages for supper.
4. Sweet GP who wrote a special important sounding official letter for my mum to keep in her handbag to tell her that she needs to take paracetamol four times a day for her back pain. (My reminders that she takes the tablets are deemed to be highly suspicious and not from a trained medic therefore invalid.) The GP sussed the problem immediately.
5. Much better view of the sky from my parents' flat than our little terraced house so I'm enjoying the birds and the clouds and the sunsets.
Sweet dreams

Many hugs needed for those going through tough times.
Epic post as always DFV
Saturday pleasures,
Early morning wander around the garden with a cup of tea, as always accompanied by my little shadow.
Did a store cupboard sort out, found some stale, ood pumpkin seeds but popped them into one of the bird feeders and the GS woodpecker polished them off.
Time spent with equine girlie, she had one apple to herself and then ‘shared’ mine.
Good chat with a pal.
Pork & Sage snorkers for tea.0 -

You are very brave Mhagster that must have been hard .0 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday).
1) An incredibly long sleep! I dreamed I was a) swimming in the sea at Dungeness then b) showing Jeremy Corbyn how will my dad's courgettes are growing!
2) Hens OK.
3) Smaller son and his friends went to watch his football team. A draw today.
4) I went to the local shopping centre and got my hair cut and eye brows threaded and beard waxed off! I'm probably quite a lot lighter now.
5) Got my sister's birthday present while I was out that way.
6) Popped down to mum and dad's for raspberries but they had eaten them all (!)
7) Have worked for hours this evening applying for a job. Second application this week. This is a bit of a wild card but looks interesting. I'm having an awful job forcing what I want to say into the little boxes.
8) Bigger son is down from the mountains into a town a few hours away for a mid-point review in his volunteering. I think he was a bit peeved that he is the one always nagging the others to get up and organise stuff yet in his one to one review today he was told they need to be more efficient! He is enjoying the hotel and having warm water for the first time in 5 weeks.
9) Watched Casualty.0 -
PM2SS Yellow thing is big thing in sky, and around here is controlled by Raffles. Raffles is our cat and I pay his Veterinary bills! Jenny is BoP’s ICD! :

More later! Duvet testing being carried out0 -
Hugs to all those that need them.
1. Back pain is almost back at "normal" level.
2. Being in the garden and hearing a neighbours child out. She was talking, laughing and singing.
3. DS2 came home briefly yesterday morning from his girlfriend house as he had forgotten something. In a very chatty mood.
4. Ate the last couple of evening meals outside. We all talked and spent longer eating than usual.
5. Clean sheets on the bed.0 -

Today is a bike ride up the valley and a meal in 'our' field (at Rhydy, Frith) as the family are camping there. Gin is likely to be consumed so the bike ride back will be 'interesting'I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
DforV or MrsLW please could you post recipe for rhubarb cordial or point me in right direction of where to find it. Thanks0
-
Hi Mhags it's very easy
Rhubarb Cordial
I kg of rhubarb chopped small
400ml water
350grams of granulated sugar
Put the rhubarb and water in a heavy based saucepan, bring to the simmer on the hob, turn down as low as possible and simmer with a lid on (lift one side as it splutters) for 30 minutes. Remove from the heat and pour the contents of the pan into a sieve over a bowl and leave it to drip the juice through (I usually give it an hour or so). Pour the juice back into a clean pan, add the sugar and stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved and doesn't crunch on the bottom of the pan bring it up to a simmer and simmer for 10 minutes. Leave it to cool and bottle into a sterilized bottle with a screw lid. Keep it in the fridge to prevent fermentation. Use in 6 weeks.
This amount makes somewhere between 750mls and 1 litre of cordial.
Dilute to your taste with cold water , I like sparkling but it is also very nice in a Rhubarb Bellini!
Given that you can make this right through the rhubarb growing season from early spring to late autumn the flavour changes slightly and the yield of juice fluctuates but the cordial is always nice and refreshing. Hope you enjoy it if you try and make some xxx.0 -
That was from Mrs LW back in April when my rhubarb had started growing and just kept continuing.
Sunday pleasures? A sunny Sunday. Was a bit too hot & humid for me at times so came back inside.
Worked 9-12 . Was fine.
Had to go to supermarket...down to the last loo roll!
Cut grass. Watered plants. Will go out and dead head later when it's a bit cooler.
Snoozed...in the upright position!
Had donated my tips so far this month to make a nice round $1000 in our charity quest and then an old colleague of OH donated $35 and that's made it all uneven but thanks so muchhe left a lovely message too.
Was supposed to go to allotment but haven't and won't now. Must go tomorrow. Shall grab a dog after work and head down.
Boy child out climbing, adventure girl got on a train to England to catch up with a Melbourne friend there and little child had a big snooze after work and is off out for tea with a friend. Just me and the dog. Trying to keep cool with an ice lolly.0
