Good morning. My iPad was being silly last night and I couldn't get on ( or couldn't be bothered to try harder) so my Friday pleasures.
Worked 8-1.30pm.
DD1 came down and we went into town...parked at the top of the hill so I didn't have to pay for parking...may have regretted that choice later as it was then pouring and we were both in our sandals and soaked right through!
Had some lunch and she paid. So that was nice. Both had a tuna croissant.
Popped into a couple of charity shops. Got a long skirt , a long dress ...both stripy...there's a surprise, a print for DD1 bedroom and 2 Jamie Oliver cook books that I didn't already have.
Home ...went to go for a shower...got as far as my bed and dozed off!
Tea was just a whatever was kicking about. A help yourself kind of thing.
I'm back in for my thirtieth shift in a row this morning. However did get paid and the least amount of hours this past week but still too many! We have people off sick, people on holiday so it will settle but I'm knackered!
Have a good day0 -
Extra pleasures yesterday -
Text from workmate. They've had a collection and she'll bring my present over early next week and stay for a coffee and natter. Lovely to have kind and supportive workmates.
Daughter and I went out with the dog and had fun watching the dog swimming in the stream and chasing sticks.
Binge watching both Mamma Mia films again (daughter hadn't seen either of them) with a break in the middle for daughter to cook a vegan curry whilst I showered dog (said dog stinky from rolling in something).
Today, might go out and get a bit of culture - daughter has free pass into some museums.
Slept about 7 hours last night, a bit more like normal.
Rhubarb in fridge needs preparing. I love the smell of rhubarb and sugar cooking, and cooked rhubarb is sublime.
Other pleasures - well, we will see what the day brings. One life - your life - live it!0 -
Snap Mhags about 50% of my wardrobe has a stripe in it!
Friday pleasures,
Coffee, lots of coffee after a rough night with a poorly dog, pleasure was she was back to normal and bouncing around.
Picking toms and salad leaves for our lunch.
Steam cleaned the wooden floors downstairs due to #1 and then retired to my boudoir like a victorian lady for an afternoon nap.
Evening walk with Capt S and dog, she chased a squirrel up a tree and then stood underneath looking up as it told her off.
Easy meal of oven baked fish & chips.0 -
A wonderful morning in the shop, we were very busy but it was great fun.
Some lobelia growing 'wild' in cracks in the pavement so self seeded of such a vibrant deep blue that it's to believe what you're seeing, stunning.
Perfectly ripe avocado on rolls as part of lunch, ambrosial!
Finding a new tea cosy in a different charity shop to the one I work in with sheep on it. Also some new books for the Grandpickles including one that the Zebra child will be able to read for himself.
When I got home at lunchtime I found my neighbour had given me a cutting of chocolate mint from her daughters garden, how lovely is that?0 -
Glad you had a nice holiday, Frith
Another stripey person here
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Woke at 7, does this mean I've caught up my sleep?
2. Panic regarding work! Decided it's all [STRIKE]shi[/STRIKE] er rubbish and started re-writing three chapters AGAIN
3. Cheese omelette for tea
4. Washing dried on line
5. OH came home from his latest holiday....
Have a nice evening folks.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Today's pleasures:
A visit to a museum and some gardens with daughter. Both places really interesting.
Lunch in town at an Italian restaurant.
A lump of rough cut rose quartz bought on the market, now in pride of place on the mantelpiece.
Lounging in the garden this afternoon with real fresh ground coffee and some decadent biscuits.
Chilled rhubarb served with vanilla yogurt and some fresh raspberries on the side.
Binge watching Gavin and Stacey on Netflix, I cannot believe my daughter has never seen that programme.
Going through old photo albums with daughter. One life - your life - live it!0 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Hens well! The allotment owner who fed them while we were on holiday came over to talk to me. She's put in an old pheasant feeder for them, which is better than the china bowls I had been using.
3) My brother came round and pulled a wasps nest from the back of the bathroom extractor fan (so big the blades couldn't go round!) He also sprayed a second nest that he couldn't get to as it runs under the roof tiles.
4) Bigger son phoned! Haven't had a phone call from him for a couple of weeks. Still enjoying Nepal and the UV light and flip flops have sorted his feet out (!) He has had problems with them since he was 2. He's going to find a barber and get his hair cut (there is no one with thicker hair on this earth, so best of luck to that chap!) and all the VSO people are going to go to a hotel for a mid point meeting so he'll be able to have his first shower in 5 weeks.
5) Spoke to my dad, sister and niece when I took my brother back (had to use my car to move the ladder up here for the wasps).
6) Got up to date with the washing and bits of cleaning.
7) Rained today which brought the temperature down a bit.0 -
Messy catch-up post follows, with thanks for pleasurable catch-up reading, just managed, fenny notspottery notwithstanding. Hopelesser and hopelesser, thus speaks Ultimate Grammarian &.
1. So, Spitalfields Thursday. Usual huge 22-26 hour day+prior prep. Takings inversely proportionate to effort, malheureusement, but there are no guarantees. Need £130 to break even and day wiped its face, DG, lifted by 2 special txns. One lovely Scottish lass, art school graduate, bought a Kilmarnock-found oil of Loch Galashiels and 3 other David J Weston watercolours for her sister. Shortly after, came a beautiful young Japanese woman who honed straight in on 4 tenmoku studio pottery plates and a small bowl & shipped back from NZ. She, too, was in NZ in Feb, but specifically for a 10-day tour of 3 NZ studio potteries!
2. Welcomed back, dare I say warmly? Always surprises &, massively. Lovely hugs and long talk/listen with D. We're Spookymen's Chorale-ing at King's Place,
on 1 Aug. T'will be lush.
3. Compline, last Wednesday. Always appreciated, always needed. Taiz! music+reflection+quiet prayer+awareness.
4. Tutoring again last night, rewarding as always with these 3 Muslim children. Over 2 years already? Can it really be? Yes :-)
5. Old £20 found, & kitchen floor, this morning. From whence, aucune id!e, but v.grateful.
6. Again, M. in Mr T, reviving/repairing/rejigging &'s phone, rendered ever more bonkers by living in Fenny lands.
7. Wimbo+willow. Yes! Rafa saw off Kyrgios and had helpful victory v.Tsonga today. Yes! Saffers saw off Strylia this arvo., who now face Albion, bop. Not what either wanted. Prob. Albion/India Final, Mai's on verra.
7. NHS, local surgery, own Dr H(15 years now). Exceptional care, goodness and time given yesterday. Just as well, it turned out. Reassured it wasn't time-wasting (always a concern).
Ended with astonishing(1st ever) political chat and humour. Absolute accord re: useless blutty xx and real concern re: neo-liberal rise and populism. No comfort currently from pathetic, so-called 'leader'.....agreed, lamented.
8. Popping into CS to confirm duty Monday became a couple of helping hours. Good. Glad of timely arrival.
9. Pouring rain most of day means rain butts should have refilled.
10. 9p apiece and 25p apiece respectively! RTC pastel de nata and miso meatballs in Emporium. Took all gladly for late drop-off to old uni friend in nearby village. Her daughter still lives in Portugal and ALL pastel de nata are yummed when consumed. There, they pop out for them to 'their' special place, family-run, with best ever coffee, for breakfasts.

Saturday pleasures,
Yet another rough night for no other reason that total inability to drop off to sleep so enjoyed a lie-in.
Boiled egg with marmite soldiers for breakfast.
Our tickets came for the racing next week.
Soft, gentle summer rain that did the garden a lot of good.
Recommended an essential oil supplier to a pal which reminded Lainey that she was running short on geranium, order put in.
Strawberries and creme fraiche.0 -
Good morning. I'm not starting till 9am this morning...losing an hour of all my morning shifts ( but I'm not really bothered) and after 31 shifts I'm now if the mindset 'do your few hours and go home'
So yesterday I made the scones ( have actually missed making them) worked 8.30-1pm then went home.
Via supermarket. Got tonight's dinner RTC
Niece and baby came a-visiting. The seven year old was away on an adventure with her cousin (DD1) . DD2 came in from work and we all piled in nieces car and went on a jaunt to our castle.
Sat in the sun and had some food at castle cafe. Then went a big walk and went to visit OH tree. It's a little bit into the forest and not really for those wearing sandals and a long skirt ...but I reached it without being stung by nettles and said hello to the tree and pulled some dry leaves off it!
Home in time for baby to be fed. Such a colicky boy. Such a sore cry but when he's happy he's very happy and big smiles and starting to tell stories.
Then I hoovered and washed floors and cleaned bathrooms. Tidied kitchen. Put out rubbish and recycling but waited as I had about 30 birds on my front lawn.
Two chaps from round the corner came over and asked about the roof tiles I'd left from build. Just had them tucked at side of house. They offered to buy them but I just said to please take them. I still have enough left over if there's any damage to roof and would rather they were away!
Friends had dropped off old railway sleepers on Friday that I will make a raised bed under my front window . But need to wait for son to be home to help me move them. I though chaps were after them!
Was hoping to see Casualty but not to be. Did catch the mixed doubles game though and was glad they won.
Rubbish sleep but that's par for the course so saw a beautiful sunrise around 4am then managed to doze again for a bit. Having lots of weird ( more than usual) dreams just now.
Anyway! It's a new day. Just a morning at work...I can do it!0
