Evening all - waiting for our takeaway curry leftovers (out the freezer) to be reheated.
Pleasures for last two days:
1. Yoga - first one in two weeks, I really need to keep going regularly
2. worked, worked worked.
3. Ambulance - a tough watch, but so, so good
4. day out on 'Northern Belle' for OH's retirement, paid for by former work. Fantastic day https://northernbelle.co.uk/
5. much champagne consumed.
Have a nice evening all...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Mea culpa but RL has included visiting the sick and coping with two speeding tickets (blush) as well as preparing for A levels in the house & keeping tabs on my aging parents whilst trying not to annoy a sibling any more than I absolutely have to. Plus being a part of the coaxing mother-in-law into eating enough to have the energy to move & regain some nerve after a couple of falls & a stint in hospital. And the paid job has not been entirely straightforward but some wrinkles I'm used to!
OS Pleasures recently
Packing things for ebay can have consequences - shortening a tube we found we had sliced a length down the side of a poster still inside it. Happily, it was no longer wanted on voyage!
Some days you do wonder if your parents should be allowed out. My ferocious academic competent father misplaced his phone - a pal called him & the whole family played “hunt that tone” round the house, But It Was Moving. As it was in my father’s pocket, All The Time.... Ah, filial disloyalty can be such fun.
Researching shampoo bars & wondering if my chaps can cope with this new technology. They know I do strange things for my hair, (longhair) but there not being a familiar bottle of goo may trigger minor uprisings. [I did have to get them to Read The Bottle last week though as it was an unfamiliar bottle & they presumed it was “your weird stuff”...] [One has bought a bottle of lurid green goo & has it stashed in his room.]
There is a spring in my step, plantar notwithstanding, as I go back to the office. A little boring but paid routine is just what I need! [Famous Last Words]
The cherry blossom is turning ragged, the grey stones beneath are edged in shed blossom, puddling like windblown tears. [And now bare green leaves]
Saw a deer pelting across the motorway, leaping the barriers. I managed not to hit anyone or extend the gawp, despite strong temptation!
Waved to the tailor - this hospital visiting does have upsides!
Hospital bed beeping for no discernible reason. “Reversing” opines youngest...
I do worry a bit when a spare mattress partly obscures a loo door. Not least in case someone tidies it & I can’t then get out. The plaintive texts for help would go straight into family legend... (The irate ones onto t shirts.) [feels Utter Dunce when sights multi button & cord alert system.]
Letting train WiFi back up photos as I play solitaire on work phone...
Coaching my father in what is permissible to say to a possibly overweight woman - whatever he would have said to his massively overweight male boss of three decades ago....
Aw, kids at McDonald’s with revision flash cards. Childhood has changed shape a bit!
Then the couple clutching a case of beer & a couple of pot noodles...
Picked up the Manual of Horsemanship & Training the Young Pony - the two fundamentals of the Pony Club! Oxford railway station charity bookcase brought me a return ticket to my childhood fascination with the theoretical side of equitation.
There were spitfires after D day whose job it was to fly beer into France. Only the British would both do this (& then have “modification XXX” kits to append to existing model kits.) Apparently the cold air at altitude refreshed the beer ensuring it was ready to enjoy on arrival... A Dane flying with us groused it was hazardous flying as a bad (& closely watched) landing & the whole squadron snarled at you all week.
I like the happy chatter from the lad’s poker night. They sound cheerful, affectionate, full of hope. As well as pizza. [And 18th birthday cake for 3 of them - no wonder they got choral!]
Asked son “how are you for crumpet?” He didn’t blush. I did, as I had to explain.
Husband watching live action 101 dalmations & has so far laughed 3 times but is still heading off...
Waved to tailor (who is seriously up late - it’s 6pm!) and again at 1 pm - the hospital visiting is demanding... [Sorry, this is a time lapse file!]
You feel a cherished wazzock when the guy running the carpark gently refastens your coat so it isn’t lopsided.
The cherry tree has a little tuft of blossom shielded by its canopy, a child’s fingerprint of pink amidst the green.
Voted. Picked a few fiddlehead ferns on the way back, I gather these tender greens are a spring delicacy. (If I run out of ideas I shall repurpose Viking soup.)
Mhags, saw the new ‘veggie’ Percies & wondered if you had taste tested that others might have an informed opinion?
Mother urging her son off the travelator “hop!” - splendid leap landing clear with a resounding thud!
“Is there a queue?” “Naw, just these two being slow.” Ah, friendship!
Archie? Ah well, I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
Husband hauled me to butchers so we got the right things to coax his mum into eating more. Their meat & potato pie had me Absolutely convinced! Snorkers right up to standard too - well, we had to check...
Son developing telepathy. He strode in, nattily attired in predominantly red summer shirt & shorts, I quirked an eyebrow & he muttered “it was at the top of the heap”. Good to know, he disappears off socialising &/or revising without a peep these days so to see him (even in that shirt) is a treat.
Found out a family friend's son has died - pleasure in hearing that his memorial service was packed, riveting & full of love.
Onwards & may your weekends be full of all essentials, plus health strength love & courage as needed - and three cheers to Raffles for the Yellow Stuff - much appreciated!0 -
DfV - I had a long phone conversation with my brother once, who was chatting to me whilst looking for his mobile in his house. After about 20 minutes, I asked him whether he was talking to me on his mobile or on the house phone...
Pleasures for today (Saturday).
1) A good sleep - must have been 8 weeks since I slept through the night.
2) Dropped bigger son off at Go Ape and had a walk in the forest.
3) Hens perky this morning.
4) Did various bits round the house and made a sausage casserole for tea plus a date and walnut cake.
5) I was waiting for bigger son to phone for his lift home from work. The house phone rang so I bellowed "GUTEN ABEND" down it - only to realise it was my mum! She recovered herself quickly and shouted "BON SOIR, BON SOIR!" :-D
6) Went out with mum to listen to Alan Johnson chatting, answering questions and sort of weaving in bits of his favourite records.0 -
1. Long conversation with a friend. Her dog seems to be recovering. He had fallen down a drain and had got himself stuck.
2. Spent time in the garden. Kept finding jobs in the greenhouse to stay dry.
3. Chat with DS2girlfriend.
4. DS1 went out with work and staying in hotel overnight. Went early so he could make use of pool before night out.
5. Drove to near Malvern to see flower show as we had been given tickets. No hold ups on journey.
6. Walked to a pub and had lovely meal.0 -
Oh VL poor dog
Saturday pleasures,
Picked up small dog from her brief stay in kennels, the normal mad delirium when she realised it was HER humans that had arrived.
Capt S cleaning out the water feature, could see the pained look from my vantage point in the kitchen and he wandered in with piece of rubber pipe which had apparently ‘come apart’ in his hand, replacement duly located on t’internet.
Over to see equine girlie, didn’t quite show the same level of delirium as the dog but accepted the apple offered and allowed a certain amount of cuddling.
The murky rain eventually disappeared and we were left with a bright, sunny evening.
Pork and marmalade snorkers for tea, our local butcher has been experimenting and they were surprisingly tasty.0 -
Coffee in DD1s garden this morning and being earnestly explained many things by an 8 year old!
DD1 has given us lovely old book case that was part of the fixtures of the school where she taught and was going to be discarded in a refurb. She rescued it and needs it's space now for the room it is in is becoming the nursery and it will go into the childrens room here until she wants it back.
Hawthorn trees in full blossom all along the hedgerows here both lovely to look at and I love the perfume too.
Swifts and house martins, quite a few of each, wheeling and screeching in the sky above the older houses in the village where they have nested for centuries, a wonderful sight.
A really lovely day yesterday too when DD2 and family came to visit. We took the boys to the allotment as we have slow worms and they were fascinated, they enjoyed lunch, the boys and I played all afternoon while mum (who is 20 weeks pregnant) had a much needed nap and they went home after a cup of tea and some chocolate cake in the late noon, so nice!0 -

Bedtime.
It's been another beautiful day ...much prefer the bright days ( not necessarily the heat but the brightness)
Down at allotment just after 8am. Was there for 3 hours. It's really the most perfect place to be. Saw some bunnies and so many birds. Only one other couple popped in for 10 minutes ( long enough to tell me there were spare cauliflower and cabbage seedlings in the greenhouse, so they are now in the community bed) was lovely to just gently warm up as the sun got higher. Filled another big bed with bucket after bucket of compost and then emptied a trough of weeds and topped it up with compost too. Because it's a community garden we are all supposed to help (though I don't think everyone doesthough I'm doing my bit!
Home and a toasted baguette with some hard boiled egg on it.
Have had a niggly sore head for much of the day so went for a lie down but that didn't really help.
Went a big long walk with DD2. Met nephew in law on his way home from work. Quick chat .
Had chicken Kiev and veg for tea and I made a rhubarb crumble for one ( only me that likes it now) . I must try to use stuff from the freezer.
Chat with friend on phone and I'm doing the school run again in morning.0 -
1. Lovely sunny day.
2. Went to RHS Malvern show. It was enjoyable and a lovely location.
I may have purchased a few plants!
3. Good journey home and stopped in Cirencester on way home for something small to eat.
4. Home and in the garden where I finished weeding a bed which looks better now.
5. A drink in the garden and DS1 joined us. He normally doesn't. He had a good time out on Saturday night.0 -
Wrote long post, saved it in case. Won't now paste.
