5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Pleasures for today (Monday).
1) A lie in!
2) More and more rain. Hens OK and I will clean out their sleeping quarters tomorrow.
3) Smaller son watched his team playing at home and they were 0-1 at about 85 minutes but then went on to win! I was parked outside for one of the "OOOOOOs"! Newport's game had been rained off so (rather randomly) they redirected their 2 coaches of supporters to our ground so they at least had something to watch. I believe one of the goals may feature on MOTD...
4) Got a few bits from Lidl (super6 sold out) and Sainsburys.
5) Chinese meals for tea, brought round by my friend yesterday. We also had a pineapple that needed using up so melted half an Easter egg, got 2 wooden skewers and used pineapple cubes as a fondue!
6) Have done little all evening apart from watch television in front of the stove including Lenny Henry's programme. His mum used to live round the corner from my grandparents.0 -

Gintot
Lol. It's Tywyn. The railway is the Talyllyn. All nicely spruced up for the season now
ICT stands for Ice Cream Town - there is a honey ice cream place (used to be a factory but now only a shop) here and it's divine.
Nice to see you Gintot
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Got out of tidy the railway - it was raining and i had a lot to do. Told them to ring if they needed an extra pair of hands, but they didn't
2. did get a lot done - lots of different tasks, most ongoing but they ARE going on.
3. Walked to station to look into being a booking clerk. it can get lonely here alone and i have lots of writing in the next year and this is a good place to do it, but the odd shift there will break up the time somewhat
4. did a circuit by the sea - it was a bit soggy but good to have done
5. out for pizza with friends - had one glass of wine too many, but have left over pizza for my lunch on the train home.
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
That piece of writing about her mother was emotional to read &
Monday pleasures,
Had an awful nights sleep (not a pleasure) but had to get up as guests coming for lunch so guess pleasure of large pot of coffee
DB and family here, we all squished around table but very merry and food enjoyed, I over catered as always so lots of leftovers.
They left late afternoon so quick visit to horse girlie.
We have finally booked a week holiday for end of April, after dithering between Dorset and Northumberland we have decided on........CornwallI haven’t been for years and Capt S has never had the pleasure so very much looking forward to.
Early to bed, just after Uni Challenge and fell straight asleep.0 -
It's stopped snowing & is now just damp, so I've got some religious observances to keep up, on me knees in the garden. Then figuring how to burn weeds in the rain (get a scout, I think) and plead with assorted twigs to take root. The jostaberry, (victim to an errant swipe of strimmer - lopped branches shoved into a flowerpot amidst swearing, apologies & hope) is now thriving, both original bush and "cuttings".
VJsmum, that the one out on the west coast or the hem of Conwy? Hindbrain says former but I wondered.
OS Pleasures recently
Hurrah for the unimaginative but fast meal like sweet & sour chicken on noodles. The hungry ones fed quickly on reasonably good for them provender. (Not quite Proper, but hungry lads turn into difficult ones when the timing's off.)
Pride, Prejudice & Zombies - one of the few Regency epics that holds my lads' attention...
Barnoldswick brass band! There are people who do not love brass, well, all the more for me!
Saw a centurion tank with swathes of daffodils around it. At a roundabout in Leyland - impressive! We did wonder if it was concrete filled to prevent unauthorised relocation but it wasn't a good time to stop & pat...
Haggis as part of a full English! Breadcrumbed as a patty but delicious. (You know what I *mean*, mhgaster!)
"Do you think the people who built the castles also built the pyramids?" "Yes, using the same alien technology - slaves..."
The look of outraged indignation as the handle on a shopping bag gives, tipping everything sideways, & us just laughing at son. Absolute traditional slapstick comedy!
The TV series reminds me, pilgrimages still exist. I'm hugely tempted. Odd - both my inner historian & my inner heretic are tugging towards this, (and the inner toddler just loves the stamps....)
Watching Totoro again. Even eldest, observing little girl stomping through puddles, observes wistfully that that looks fun... Must bid him wrap up & herd him outside! There is to be a second Totoro film out later this year! (Not 'Mei & the kittenbus', but a whole real film!)
Son opened an egg to find chocolates *inside egg* & is touchingly pleased!
As a power tool spins up, husband & my heads snap around & yes, relevant son has indeed chosen to use *his* kit & even charged the battery for it - a most novel change! Usually ours & abandoned, so a joy to see his gear in play.
Need to work on son's grasp of "in date" - sealed cheese went off two months ago but was vacuum sealed & tasted fine when I ate it hours ago.
The creative lunatic (OH) who made a cage distaff because he could has now been pointed towards a home made hand cranked fleece carding machine. Since I can feel the tides of grim inevitability tugging around my ankles, I shall get all the mechanical help available. (Spinning Jenny next stop, I think, then he can build a loom. Worryingly, neither if these is off-puttingly beastly complicated. Plus it can all go to the local museum when we're despatched into care.)
Son has left phloem vs xylem link on my PC browser & (sure enough) I was curious enough to follow it. (A very risky precedent, I fear.) I now know a lot more about the transpiration of plants than I did, but son will not let me delete the link.
Right. Health, strength, love, courage & wellies to all who need same, rousing cheers for the Vulcan bomber & all associated planes & peoples, & all the best with the post Easter Bank Holiday mayhem!0 -
Pleasures for the bank holiday weekend:
1) Hubby received news that he's got a fantastic new job! It's much more responsbility, and for a global company. Initially he'll be between UK and USA but they have offices all over, including over 35 offices in France. We've always wanted to do a year or two on the continent and it's finally looking possible in the not-too-distant future.
2) Popped to Brussels for two nights and my French has improved drastically. I didn't speak any English for the whole weekend. Feeling very proud of myself!
3) Lost 11lbs since Christmas, now firmly back in size 8 and feeling so much better about myself, and healthier too!
4) DD's grandpa gave us a 18 pinter of local beer. Yummy!
5) Good food shop - enough food for two weeks for £50, incl. cat food. Loads of fresh stuff.
6) Went to a spa yesterday which was very relaxing, and nice to feel good in a bikini again. Had a lush massage, lovely lunch and a glass of bubbly each.
7) Hubby did some home improvements last night - fixed two chairs and installed a chipped cat flap. Hopefully our cats stop spraying everywhere!
8) Sent off official acceptance of lanscapers quotes. House will look dead posh by the end of the summer if it all goes well
9) Spring is springing and the garden is coming to life!0 -
Yes, DforV - the west coast one.
hoorah for MandM's OHI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
#RAF100 Don’t forgets to listen to the wireless thing on Friday Night, BoP is singing!
DfV! Cheese does not sit around long enuff to go off at palais le BoP!
V Back at the mill, not a pleasure!
4 Grimsby Lost, again. Note we are going to be the first team to be safe from relegation at Christmas and not win another game all year!
3 The curry was excellent last day. Nice and creamy. Toe nail onions were used and special prawn egg fried rice was also wolfed down! Tum was rubbed. 3 are now in the freezer!
2 Nite BoP will be parading his new for spring looks of his beach ready body inn the gymnasium!
On raising funds for the church roof! Is afore BoP lost his faith, I said that our church should be used by the community, therefore it should be available for the community to use. Some elders and them gathers cobwebs were against this, as they saw that only those who were with the faith should use the facility. I expressed that they certainly were not queueing up at the door on Sundays to use the place, and for the other 160 hours in the week, ignored it! I suggested a caf! to open on Saturday mornings, selling, snorker rolls, nice things and cups of tea and get people in for a chat. We were opposite a decent butcher and … No they wanted not to no, cannot have the non-committals coming in. But hang on. Once they are through the door, they can learn about the place as well. Oh no, those elders wanted to give them a sermon so harsh, it would make sure they never came back through the door! I said give them the bread (Snorker roll) on Saturday, they will be back for the wine on Sunday!
What about other things, well trinity church in Kingston (Grandfather BoP never called it Hull!) was sked about use of their church hall for a beer festival a few years back. They took the gambit, and klo and behold, their church is now flourishing as those that took the bread on the night, and have comeback for the wine. They were radical. They did not have to bleat and preach to those visitor, only express an openness for the facility.
The first sect met at Lydia’s pad, they were not christains then!0 -
I've not done terribly much today. Though have a tidy under the stair cupboard and linen cupboard. Washing and ironing is all caught up on. Have watched some educational documentaries and my extension plans have been submitted.
It has lashed with rain for most of day , our snow from yesterday didn't lie. But so blooming cold. I think I'm officially over the cold stuff. The romance of it all has worn off! Come on Spring!
Easter decorations are down and will go out to garage later. I got lots of spring flowers for my birthday which are all in full bloom.
Just going to make tea with a RTC chicken pie, some left over veg from Sunday and some need to use up potatoes as wedges tonight.0 -
1 We went to solicitors to swear an oath and paperwork all done.
2 Stopped at the wonderful caf for a lovely lunch.
3 I was very lucky with CS books, Prachett, Atkinson and a new one on me Tartt for all 3 for a pound.
4 A very empty fridge but very full freezer, had the last of the bread rolls with some pork and pickle for tea.
5 Planning to use Jack Monroes latest swede recipe as I was wondering what to do with it.0
